I’ve explained to him many times what to look for to see if it’s fake but he just doesn’t have that discerning eye. This wouldn’t be such a big issue but he gets it in his head that these movies exist and we can spend hours sometimes going through the loop of “this movie doesn’t exist” “go online and check at closest theater” “ok see? Look, this movie isn’t here” “ok now check at THIS theater.” And even by the end of that whole rigmarole when we’ve all finally given up, he’s still convinced we’re just not looking in the right place.

Drew made such a good point in saying, "why does AI want us to lie to each other?" Every one of the Apple AI ads are about lying about reading people's messages, or lying about doing work, or lying about remembering something. If you see the AI ads targeted towards students, it's all "use this to write your essay!" or "use this to summarize the reading so that you don't have to do it!" It's really insidious to flagrantly promote a product so heavily based in dishonesty. Edit: I also remembered Drew’s video about AI images. It’s also another ploy at dishonesty when genuinely big companies are screwing over artists by promoting AI pictures as “real stock footage” or when documentaries use AI images like history revisionists.

Just crazy to me that so many people don’t understand that writing an essay isn’t about the mark, it’s about learning how to structure essays. ‘Why should I do it when an ai could do it better’ teachers don’t assign essays for fun. They don’t like spending hours grading your surface level analysis that is definitely just chat gpt. Like the point of education is to learn new things and develop skills, and it’s crazy how many people just missed that bit

the pervasive "school doesnt teach you anything useful" attitude pisses me off, and its at least one reason students are so willing to use generative tools to complete thier work for them. They dont see the value in developing critical analysis, problem solving and literary fluency (at least partially beacuse thats never how these assignments are presented to them) and just think "when am i going to have to analyse 'to kill a mockingbird' in real life?". Thats not the point. Do your work, gahdamn

It also doesn't help when you get stuck with the wrong teacher, my dad lost his love for writing and creating stories because of his teacher shitting on him for not doing what SHE wanted. @@Elephantian-joy oh dude i totally agree. Im in Australia, and im very aware that my education system is much more open than England, new zealand and america, but i still 100% agree, school forcefully limits creativity. I found, in my own system, its a poorly executed balance of audience. Students who need specific instructions, who need to be limited in order to produce basline *anything* (wether that be from disability or apathy) need structure. Students like you would thrive in creativity, but can Work in structure. What it does is absoloutly kill your drive in exchange for a chance at inspiring another, but thats the compramise my system chose.
@3bugsinatrenchcoat2 күн бұрын
@@xyrissavage4983 i think there's a lot of nuance to it. on the one hand, education can always improve and there are a LOT of pitfalls in public education currently. but at the same time, like you said, education is necessary, and certain things can be helpful as a model even if it isn't immediately obvious how applicable they would be to "real life." because another huge reason i can think of that students use generative ai is because they have too heavy of a workload with too little time, which is a notable flaw in the education system. as someone whose disabilities made me flunk out of high school twice, no matter what documentation or IEP/504/whatever you have, public schools can't slow their curriculum for a single kid. the other major reason i can think of is not understanding the material, which is again a gault of the system, because public school teachers don't have the time to individually help everyone struggling. while i never used ai, this was a key reason that i cheated fairly often in my later years of school. i imagine if i hated ai less, i would probably generate essays, because i never in my life had a teacher accommodate me properly (i couldn't do most personal narrative based assignments because i have amnesia). so i don't think everyone doing it is doing it only because they don't see the value in the work itself.
@queenemmersКүн бұрын
I took a course called 'Nature of Creativity' back in the spring of 2023, and we discussed the ethics and creativity of AI art. When the professor asked us if we thought a piece of visual AI art should be in a renowned museum, only 2 of the 20 students in the class said yes. The rest of us emphasized how art has value because of the work and story of the person/people making it. It's weird to see what AI became just months later. That course was integral in forming my belief that creating and interacting with art is one of the most important aspects of human experiences. For as long as humans have lived, we have sought to find meaning through sounds, body movements, and visual works. It's terrifying to see people justify the existence and use of AI art because what do we gain from a work that a computer created? I feel nothing when seeing an "aesthetically beautiful" piece of AI art. What value does it have? People can hate on modern art all they want, but a banana duct taped to a wall evokes more emotion within me than any AI generated slop ever could.

But with regular stuff, like internal corporate communication, it's gonna get worst to figure it out. bc those are average and mundane by design, right? you shouldn't be terrified of it, otherwise you'll be just a ludite, like in the industrial revolution. I think the most nefarious thing that I hate most on KZbin is the AI generated live stream spams in the KZbin shorts feature. Seems like almost every ten shorts, KZbin throws in a live stream, which I wish I could turn off, but KZbin doesn't allow that. And while every once in a while, I come across an innocent livestream where somebody is actually doing something, most livestreams I've come across are AI generated spam content with 0 point. Now, you'd think that that wouldn't be a big deal. But here's the thing: if you scroll past one of these live streams, that livestream gets put into your KZbin history. Not the one second you watched. THE WHOLE 10+ HOURS. And so KZbin sees that 10+ hour Livestream in your history and is like "wow, you really like AI generated spam content. You want some more?" And you can't even use the "don't recommend channel" button like you can with regular shorts, because they don't give you that option on livestreams in shorts. Because of this, I've made it a habit to report any AI generated spam streams I've come across and then use the "not interested" button that they actually give the viewers. They need to go down and I encourage other people to report these AI spam streams.

Speaking of AI, I remember that during my college graduation not too long ago, they showed us this AI video during the graduation opening to unveil the graduation logo. The logo itself isn't AI (i think) but the entire video was. I was kind of ticked off that after spending so much time, effort, and money to get your degree, you would at least expect they make a heartfelt, actual video from actual people during your graduation but I guess that's a bit too much. My guess is they want to impress the parents with the "look we're using AI, we're getting on with current technology" move. What bothers me more is that my college has an entire major for arts and design, yet they still go with this AI generated stuff. Can't imagine how my friends and his entire graduating class that majors in design feels about watching it during their graduation.

As mark Fisher of capitalist realism put it"all that is solid melts into PR." The reason why so many young people are jaded and cynical during a time that should be the most idealistic times of their lives, is a. They will be a debt slave with no real assets and they know it, b. They can tell a huge chunk of the older generations they wanted to look up to are either straight up grifters or phoning it in, c. Many sources of historical hope like church is gone and d. They know straight up that many who are our Stars, cultural leaders, politicians and religious leaders are nepotism hires. We already exist in techno feudalism, and in many respects, the living conditions are worse.

The more we divorce ourselves from our labor the less accomplished we feel, and that's what these AI apps do. I remember reading a comment that said "It doesn't matter if ChatGPT can write an essay for you, that's not what it's about. I never realized how little control I had over my social media accounts untill AI was added without any care for what the users of the website felt about it. There's no way to turn it off either. The thing that's so insidious about it is that it's all to reduce social connection. Like AI friends, girlfriends, therapists. It's appealing to our human needs for connection. It's viewed as a market opportunity instead of human nature. I hate that we've used AI to take the beauty and creativity out of the human experience because it is seen as the ultimate form of demand to exploit. I swear we could ALL be living so comfortablebly and freely if we used AI for construction, food production etc. WHY IS AI TAKING THE FUN PARTS AWAY FROM LIFE???

I would rather burn 18 hrs of my life writing an essay doomed to fail and fail on my own merits than succeed with an essay that wasn't even mine. This is my passion. This is what I love. Why the hell would I use something that not only steals from the hard work of others, but also removes me from the process? And it's not even you could take the argument of AI stealing stuff 'well', bc it doesn't. Every AI story I've ever seen is about as coherent as a dictionary sent through a wood chipper. It has the bricks, but no clue how to actually build anything of substance with them, and it lacks all the soul

I think the fundamental disconnect between silicon valley guys and regular people is that often when you take a look into THEIR view on their lives in interviews they'll say "I wish I didn't have to talk to people or my family, I wish I didn't have to eat just take one flavorless pill a day, I wish I didn't need to sit down or sleep. I hate vacation. wish I didn't have to interact with designers. I wish I could just work 24/7 uninterrupted and watch line go up for 70-80 years until I die in my office chair." And they have so many people like that around them they assume that's what the average person wants at all. And even when people tell them that, they have to tell themselves those people are lazy and wrong. That everyone wants to live like they do. Because the other option is to realize how empty their own lives are and and that they'll never be happy and that's simply unacceptable.

Drew’s AI voice impression was so spot on. It’s ironic because it just proves anything an AI can do humans can also do, often better. Using an AI to replicate a voice when so many humans can literally make their voice sound like whatever you can imagine is actually insane lol

To be honest, all he had to do was sound as bored as possible, like he's just reading off of a script

This may be a weird tangent, but it reminds me of Hatsune Miku, the (non-AI) robotic singer Vocaloid software, and that time she was used as a character for a minor role in an anime. Except that instead of using the software to generate the voice for the role, they hired the person who provided her voice for the library and had her imitate the speech pattern of something made by the software. And you can find comparisons made to how the line sounds when actually recreated in the software, and she did an extremely good job. It's difficult to tell the difference.

Have you seen the voice actor for Cyn from Murder Drones? There’s a great video on their channel showing them doing all the robotic voice work unedited and it’s really impressive.

@@cruncyart No, he had to basically break every single rule of natural cadence

Such a funny way to start a video! I'm a fan of Drew's humor... And especially the faces he makes in his sketches! So hilarious...

honestly this AI craze has felt like crypto/nfts but 10 times worse. bc at least with crypto, if you didn't like it, it was pretty easy to just not interact with it. but with ai, all 4 tech companies are hellbent on shoving it into every millimeter of our lives, and analyzing every microscopic amount of information humans have ever generated to feed the algorithm. and yet all it has ever managed to spit out in return is a slightly longer version of the autocomplete feature on your phone's keyboard. the worst part is that running these algorithms is requiring so much energy that a tech company (I forget which one) is genuinely looking into bringing a decommissioned power plant back online. all to power a change that literally no one asked for and is actively worsening the world around us. tech bros keep saying that it's "the future" but honestly, at risk of sounding like a boomer, I miss the good old days where even if something on the internet was the most mind-numbing, pointless thing you could possibly come up with, at least a real human took time out of their day to make it. and now we can't even be bothered to do that.
