I have learned SO much from you both. I have confidence in what to buy. What to splurge on. How to layer and how to create a routine that works best for my skin. Also what in office prosedures are worth while. It is a relief to know that I'm not just “rolling the dice” and hope that what I just purchased gives me the outcome promised by either the salesperson or whatever the label states. Thank you!!

My mom is a (retired) microbiologist, but she can't explain anything about what she does enough to actually help your average person actually understand much about it. I feel like it's the people who are truly passionate about what they are doing that have a real ability to teach that thing to others, and you are honestly great at it. ❤ I appreciate it very much! I'm interested enough to REALLY want to learn about taking care of my skin, and there's an almost criminal amount of misinformation out there (fake news 😂). Thank you for educating us and keeping it fun too. I gave 2 questions please. 1. How do I integrate a peptide (Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster to be precise) into my routine. My ultimate goal is anti-aging and skin brightening. 2. How do I treat my dry, dehydration prone skin with enlarged pores to get even texture?
@Doctorly2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, The first question is way easier than the second. Peptides are so easy to add to routines because they are well tolerated, have benefits that compliment most other ingredients, and play well with others. The peptide booster can be added on during the lightweight serum portion of a routine. After cleansing, toning/exfoliate, and maybe after other lightweight serums with higher priority ingredients like retinoids. BUt really calms, compliments, and boosts like great supporting ingredients should. for #2. Pores respond best to procedures like microneedling or ablative lasers, but for topicals retinoids or AHA can help, and for dry dehydrated or sensitive skin Lactic acid might be the better option.
@mimiwetu69982 жыл бұрын
@@Doctorly thank you so much for your response. I am learning a lot on the reasoning behind certain recommendations from your (solo and together) format. It helps a great deal. Especially because I live in a country where the dermatologists I have seen so far seemed unfamiliar with POC skin. I will keep the option of microneedling at the back of my mind until I find someone to walk the journey with me

Doctor, I’m also an MD but what I would really like to know is in terms of published studies and/or even clinical trials: what is scientifically proven to help with our skin besides moisturizer to prevent/delay wrinkles? I’ve been reading a lot about creams with hyaluronic acid and its benefits, retinoids too ( efficacy’s better if oral right? even though its recommendations are very limited and we have to watch out for side effects. I haven’t had time to read anything about vitamin C tho… My question remains : what can we prove nowadays that is beneficial and efficient when it comes to topical treatments, especially about everything you just mentioned and no need to talk about SPF ) I would really love your input and your answer. Thank you sm and I just subscribed!

Dr. Maxfield, first of all, I must comment and say whole heartily watching you demonstrate with your enormous passion and enthusiasm and at the same time explicate your rationale on skin care benefits. You put a smile on face. Your funny antics, in the way you animate your words, is worth the price of admission. But please don’t change a thing. I mean that in a good way. You are a rare find. I can say as a laymen, you will go far. Patients will love your wisdom and being. And that’s what the world needs desperately. Just kindness. But I do have a couple of questions. Can years of taking oral steroids such as prednisone moderately, cause thinning of the skin or desquamation. And second, have you ever heard of a rare skin condition called “Aqua Gentic Puritis”. It’s when a person is bathing and the skin starts to dry your body starts this” INTENSE ITCHING”. It last about 20 to 25 mins. Then stops completely. It means one is “Allergic to water”. A Dermatologist said this to me some 30 years ago when you were just a pup. When she told me this I replied, “Yep! “And pigs fly!”. I thought she lost her marbles! When she showed me a medical journal page 660, reading it defined me to a tee. Needless to say I was in dismay. She admitted there is no cure known or treatment. I would really like to hear your explanation if any. I’d be grateful . Thank you for your sincere contribution to the universe. And most of all your works of charity. God is very pleased.

I can relate to your question, but maybe from a different perspective. I'm 61 and my Mum is 81. Some products must be largely a waste of money at a certain age. The kind of advice I want is what is the most important products at certain times in my life. I always use SPF, my moisturising lotion has hyaluronic acid, and I am just getting into retinol. My Mum has her own routine. At our age where skin is already losing firmness, what else should we consider adding to our routines that will give decent results? What would be a waste of time and money?

Glutathione is the antioxidant used to lighten skin. In very high amounts (500mg+ per day). Best to be injected into muscle for best absorption, though it can be injected subcutaneously and even taken orally or sublingually. It does lighten skin it just takes a while. It is mostly used in Asia, mostly South Asia. I think Dr. Maxfield is half South Asian (if I’m not mistaken). I think he was just fawning not remembering. With his being a Doctor and having that background he should have definitely remembered/known. I think it’s just his way of saying he doesn’t recommend it…I personally don’t see anything wrong with it. There’s millions of light skinned people that tan their skin every single day on purpose to look darker…so why can’t the opposite be?…

I have been exfoliating, using masks, washing, scraping, and even tried to squeeze them. I think they’re kp bumps? And nothing has worked til I switched the order in applying products. It has caused some drying, so I think every other day or just twice/ thrice a week would be better? Or maybe do my moisturizing mask once a week. It could be I was layering it with Olay night cream. So my skin has always been ok with retinol since started using the ordinary about 3 months ago, other than I could definitely feel it a bit more sensitive to daylight as expected. But question for you! I've oily /combination skin, don't really get spots but prone to blackheads and shine so I use salicylic acid Paula's choice and the ordinary acid occasionally. Can you use a retinol and salicylic acid together? If using niamcinamide and salicylic acid in the morning, when does matrixyl and argireline come in?!
@Doctorly2 жыл бұрын
Retinol and SA can be used together. as always irritation is possible. And if using Niacinamide + SA + Matrixyl and argireline, SA likely first so it can break up the oils or as a rinse off (as is my preference) and then the rest can be layered according to vehicle with lightest first. And argireline is usually in a watery vehicle as it's more stable that way. DrM

Specifically, im sure this might be costly, but a breakdown of specific products with the good and bad of their formulation and the "real" percentages of the ingredients and how that is effective from a dermatologist aspect as well as the chemical effectiveness, of that formulation for "advertised" skin conditions, issues, claims. Also, if you guys could provide your expertise in educating us on brands that would pass the test as well as formulations of ingredients that are very stable and those that are not so much. I know this would cost you some serious effort and time but i believe it could put you and Lab Muffin above the rest and bring to the front how important the difference is for all of us between (ingredients and their formulation) and just an ingredient list. ***Thanks for all you do!

I have so many amazing products for my skin including the ordinary, philosophy, drunk elephant, and tons of others. I do all the extra stuff to like microdermabrasion and micro blading. I’m very aware tho without using sunscreen religiously all of this is for naught. Unfortunately, my eyes refuse to tolerate any type of sunscreen. I’ve tried chemical n physical in so many brands to no avail. The second I put it on my face my eyes start burning n watering like crazy. It’s so miserable n painful it takes years before I ultimately attempt it again. It never works and I don’t know what I can even do to solve this. I want to use sunscreen I know I need to, but I don’t know how to without being in pain. Is there a sunscreen for people with possibly a sunscreen allergy or just severely sensitive eyes?

Now feel I need to take the next step for anti ageing. Combo skin some sensitively on my eyes. Would introducing a regular dermal planning and retinoid in the evenings be the 1st step?
