It's rather strange that this is going after these more obscure indie artists. It'd definitely make sense to be Lemon Demon or Jack Stauber next which is just such a shame. These bots couldn't imitate the creativity that goes into these works if it wanted to (not that it can want). I'm glad you properly addressed it and with respect to the original artists and shit. Having an AI upload stuff under your names and having hackers take your identity must feel shitty as hell.

Lemon Demon aready was a victim to this, as far as I'm aware. Funnily enough on spotify. I think someone aplouded an album on his profile to promote themself without consent. It was called "heart of love" or sth like this if I'm not mistaken. It had been later taken down

This has been a major issue in the country music sphere for years. I keep getting spotify suggestions for covers of existing songs by "bands" that don't even exist at all. It goes against everything the genre stands for: originality, emotion, true stories of rural life and poverty... all things that robots can't experience. I hate it especially because I know they do it since the country music fanbase is mostly old people who genuinely can't tell the difference.

something else I want to bring up that’s related to this, is that there are SO MANY accounts that just repost other peoples music under their name. it’s such a problem because when somebody uses that song in a short or something, it leads back to the fake repost. one of my favorite music artists has this problem and it makes me so upset.

To clear things up… When you upload to streaming services, certain distribution systems allow you to upload to already-made accounts, (which is how I upload to the same spotify account everytime), and what these people may have done, is that they entered the KZbin Music Topic Channel link into the “KZbin Account” and so it uploaded to Miracle Musical / Will Wood.

Ah yeah unfortunately it hasn’t just been KZbin music having issues in the past On the Tally Hall page in 2020, a “new single” appeared called Walls, which was just like electro music iirc? It was an indexing error from another artist who also went by the name of Tally Hall. On Apple Music in 2020, there was a bunch of “new” Lemon Demon music appearing with album art of random photos of ladders and chairs from what i recall??? I didn’t know any better at the time and thought it was a new release, but it was very synthesized music that made me quickly realize it wasn’t actually Lemon Demon. Edu in 2021 had the totally incorrect profile on Andrew’s yt and displayed some other random guy named Edu as the artist behind sketches 3d In 2022, a slowed-and-reverb version of Dream Sweet appeared on Miracle Musical’s accounts as if it were official, but I highly doubt that was the case and it disappeared shortly after. Needlejuice has noted last year that there have been severe issues with people taking Lemon Demon tracks and uploading it as their own, which is why albums like Damn Skippy haven’t been able to appear under the correct profile on Spotify. And only Spirit Phone appears on Apple Music 💔 All in all, the digital landscape for indie artists can kinda suck due to the impersonation. KZbin autogenerates any new tracks from your distributor, and as you mentioned, doesn’t really have the greatest checks it seems. AI may perpetuate this more, but unfortunately it isn’t a new issue. And other distributors like Spotify and Apple Music are not immune.
