KZbin's decision to hide the number of dislikes was a huge mistake. The like to dislike ratio made it easy to avoid clickbait and misleading videos. Now it's much more difficult to quickly differentiate the good from the bad.

In recent years, getting rid of the dislike 👎 button or at least not showing the numbers of dislikes was one of the worst decisions that KZbin decided. It was a bad decision not from a financial perspective but in terms of user-friendliness. It was bad for me, a daily user, not a content creator. What is the point of having a dislike button if we cannot judge a video based on its dislikes?

@beanburrito44052 жыл бұрын
@Pratyussh Kumaarr Not the reason imo. It’s because Google really wants people not to be able to see the billion dislikes that the videos of news channels get. Many of them are unofficially beginning to move to KZbin since it’s clear that Cable is dying, and KZbin in turn wants to promote these news channels as much as possible (for instance, news channels dominating trending, the news category, and an area for news in the homepage); if they visibly have a bunch of dislikes, it can turn people off. This is extremely anti-consumer and affects the rest of the site, I fucking hate it

I really think one big reason that KZbin is so successful is because television sucks. And what little quality there is in left in broadcasting entertainment, is no longer broadcast, it is on a separate service with an additional cost. So basically they want you to pay about $200 a month for crappy cable, then on top of that if you want to see anything descent, pay $10-20 a month for stuff like Peacock, Discovery Plus, etc. No thanks. KZbin may have its faults, but there is tons of variety in content, and the service is free, you just have to have internet, which typically is way cheaper than cable.

A feature missing from KZbin is the ability to mark watched videos and to not suggest them for watching again. I "like" videos NOT because I like them but as a marker that I've seen it already. If there were a neutral "watched" button I would use that instead. Since KZbin remembers where you stopped watching, I stop virtually all videos at 95-99% so there is a red bar under all watched videos. This can get wiped out if autoplay is on, so I never use autoplay.

Slight correction on the ads and revenue split - you need to be a part of YPP to get a share of the revenue. KZbin can still run ads on your videos as a creator and make money, even if you are not in YPP. I have seen ads on many of my own videos, but I am not in YPP yet. I got on KZbin way back when in 2006-2007 I think. It's been such an interesting experience watching the platform evolve and change (for the better and for the worse). I actually ended up ditching cable back in 2013 and ended up watching KZbin content instead. I had kids later on and they learned to watch YT shows and at one point one of them said they "wanted to be a KZbinr when they grew up" which can be good and bad depending on the content they watched. They started watching a lot of garbage content with a lot of sub/like beggars and channels that only push ads and merch to kids. So I deleted the app from all of the devices at home. the biggest issue with youtube isn't completely KZbin's fault a good chunk of it comes down to the DMCA laws and how because of the internet they really need to be reworked, the music industry and Hollywood, in particular, have way more pull than they should and youtube needs to stick to its roots those independent creators that made content on a shoestring budget and a dream, not these corporate bean-counting pencil pushers
@Isaacreeper2 жыл бұрын
The corporate bean-counting pencil pushers are the ones that pay the independent creators on a shoestring budget's bills. Yes they also steal from them too, but to ignore them is to kill the platform. KZbin has been slowly pushing for more corporatized content creation like Mr Beast, Cocomelon, and T Series because that stuff is easier to sell to advertisers which in turn make more money for themselves, KZbin, and creators. You cant be edgy anymore unless you have a pre-established fan base or other revenue streams. Im not saying its good, but thats how it is and thats how the platform is going to stay afloat.
@smb-c3po2 жыл бұрын
KZbin needs to be reminded of how good it used to be before they were bought out by Google.
@NextNate032 жыл бұрын
When it comes to DMCA laws and KZbin, it's mainly KZbin. KZbin allows any company or person to issue a copyright claim or strike on a video/channel. That is no matter if the video or the contents in the video is consider as "Fair Use". They don't notify you of the copyright claim either, you have to check your videos on a regular basis. The appeal process is mind blowing. KZbin has no say in the matter. You submit an appeal. The appeal goes to the channel that submitted the copyright claim for their review. If they rejected your appeal, you can make 2nd appeal. In which they other channel has so much time to make their decision. If their time expired, you will automatically win your appeal. However, KZbin made it mandatory for you to watch a 10+ minute copyright video before you can do anything else. The whole process could take weeks, if not longer. The whole entire time the video has a copyright claim, all of the revenue from the ads goes directly to the channel/person/company that abused the KZbin copyright claims. If you win your case, KZbin won't give you any of your revenue back from the false copyright claim. If you are unlucky enough, you get 3 or more copyright claims at the same time, even if they are false copyright claims, KZbin will automatically delete your channel. Once KZbin permnimant delete your channel, you are banned from KZbin all together. You can't create a new channel, you can't even become a host or appear on a different persons/company channel.

KZbin was built on independent creators sharing videos with the world. Now they police every videos, all trending videos are all paid. Anyone that is constantly on trending is paid. Shorts is a pathetic attempt to knock off tik tok. YT measures and measures so many different things of where traffic comes but if u just watch how the economy goes up and down you can pretty much gage your content around that. There are a lot of things that don’t work in the platform such as the @ button where you can tag a creator in a title. I have had spam channels locked in that tab for three years and YT cant fix it. Not to run to the defence of KZbin, because believe me I can list plenty of faults, but the path it took is actually pretty natural if you compare it to, say, many mainstream cable outlets. Yes, I do remember the days when MTV had only music videos, ESPN had only sports, and TLC was actually still a learning channel. Just these few examples have morphed into entirely different concepts than their original intent. They are a Monopoly. They are charging for things that was free for years. Ads, I have seen ads that is 40 to 60+ minutes in length. Overall, KZbin has been broken for years and KZbin refuses to do anything to fix anything. Some examples: False Copyright claims Bots Censorship (comment sections, you can have a legitimate comment and be taking down, if you post the same comment or word in a different language, its stays up.) LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE (as in no customer service)

There a monopoly in the sense they made this market no other similar video site has come anywhere close to them and they usually compete through stuff like tiktok and twitchy which are different to KZbin’s main video thing. And idk how you have seen ads that are 40 to 60 mins like I doubt that. And KZbin isn’t broken it is still amazing despite all it’s problems and many people still use it and get joy from it and even make a living
@NextNate032 жыл бұрын
@@gothicgolem2947 All you have to do is do some research on what I am claiming in my comment. If you do that, the results will prove that I am right about all those things. 1 more thing, if you spell out C-19 if or when you respond, KZbin will going to take your comment down within 60 seconds. That is censorship and there are plenty of banned words.

@@NextNate03 really so if I research online I’m gonna find proof of 40 to minute adds? Also you spelt out the word 2 mins ago and didn’t get banned. KZbin have it nailed down, I dont think Shorts will ever be as popular as TikTok but its up there. Limiting the partnership program just shows how many smaller creators get on that grind to been over the 1k sub mark (I myself currently on that grind), but a lot of other companies have added it to their model just seeing how successful it is for YT, TikTok have been doing it for ages as well with the limit of 10k followers before you get monetised. It wont be too long before everyone is doing it! I think Facebook have something as well but I dont know the limit for monetisation because, lets face it no one wants to make a video for FB lol.

KZbin has a - there’s a lot of ways to say this - chokehold, death grip, deadlock, stranglehold on the user-generated video hosting service. This platform has something for everyone and beyond, and while it’s been a continuous decline in quality of user experience, there’s still nothing that can fill this niche better than KZbin. It organically formed and took root, and grew supermassive before anyone else could even break their own seed wall. TikTok and other platforms have to play around youtube in the spaces adjacent - short form content, for instance. KZbin is now trying to adapt that with shorts, but the ultimate appeal of youtube always has been - and likely always will be - user-generated content, free access, and absurd content variety. Other services trying to do the same thing will inevitably have to measure up to the standard of KZbin and likely fail. Yet if the bar keeps getting lowered at this rate, one can only wonder if KZbin will someday be looked fondly back on as a primordial titan, a relic of an ancestral website.
