BASS FISHING (TOPWATER FROG) POTOMAC RIVER!!!

Bass fishing on the Tidal Potomac River with a topwater frog in a brand new Ranger bass boat...does it get any better than that!!! My buddy Paul hooked me up & let me borrow his new rig to practice the day before I fished the FLW Costa series tournament on the Potomac River as a co-angler. As you'll see, the bass fishing was great with the topwater baby frog and you may be surprised with the set up I was throwing it on. The tournament was fun...let's just not talk about my results...:(

That's the biggest yellow perch I have ever seen caught on a frog, the only perch I have ever seen caught on a frog. LOL! Nice work! I miss the days of good grass on the Potomac River.

Awesome video as always man, been here for a while! Just a little tip...If I was practicing for a tournament and found that many fish in that area, I know it sounds weird but I would have left that spot in search of another spot that held fish, that way you have something to fall back on if that spot goes dry during the tournament. Its hard to leave them biting! Love the frog!

Well you may not have done the best but I know the stress of tournaments. I am a HUGE tournament angler and I jut take my results and learn from it every tournament.

Great video, too bad about the tournament though. Any tips for fishing tidal rivers, I fish the Delta and the morning has mostly been from low tide. Is the mid day high tide better? I REALLY want my fish frog bite. Thanks and tight lines!

Hey Cornell. How do I get more cast distance on a baby frog? I'm only getting about 15-20 feet with my 7ft medium heavy ugly stik. Should I add a small weight to it? I'm worried that will sink the lure. Thanks a lot for you insight. :)

ΔF508 Use a 7' medium/medium heavy spinning rod with 15 to 20 pound braid and let her fly.

Hey brother, I'm out in your area temporarily. Any tips on fishing through that grassy stuff on the Potomac and Loch Raven? It's intimidating.

I haven't fished Loch Raven in years! Frogs are worth a throw all day over the thickest stuff on the Potomac, but other than that, folks are throwing drop shot and small soft plastics in the holes. A swim jig kills it through the sparse grass along with a chatterbait. Good luck!

Not on these little guys! I get a 90+% hook up ratio with these so the longer legs are fine & have great action. I do trim the legs on full sized frogs since they're infamous for getting short strikes.

It's so versatile that I can't say I have a favorite way to use it. The first way I ever used it was weightless Texas rigged. That's the most common routine with the wacky style almost tied or a super close second. Like most folk, I cast to a target, let it sink to the bottom, raise the rod tip (sometimes with a twitch or two) and let it sink again. It take patience to fish, but as we all know, it kills 'em! Hope that helps!!!
