As a person with bipolar disorder, I would describe the onset of my manic episodes as being a dimmer dial rather than a light switch. It's not an instant change from baseline to full-blown manic. I feel it coming on. The symptoms increase and intensify until I'm "there." If a person is undiagnosed/unaware of what they are experiencing, it can feel as though it has come out of nowhere; it definitely appears that way to outsiders looking in because it's difficult to notice the little signs that indicate something's not right.

Yeah mine deff start as like a crazy thought, that I TRY but usually fail at stopping myself from making it logical (to me) and then it turns so elaborate by the time someone notices I'm already full blown into it. I've been trying to get better at catching the thought and telling someone so that they can notice the little things before I start diving too deep into my mind about it

The way you described it as a 'dimmer dial' is how i would describe when i get my panic attacks; literally always there like a pot on the back burner simmering, till it boils and boils, and then eventually overflows. And before it overflows thats when i know im really there. Mental health real is important, please everyone check on your loved ones.

Mental illness is tricky because while to an extent as human beings we should understand that this is based in trauma and genetic factors, we need as a society to still hold people accountable when they manipulate others and cause chaos. It's a difficult balance. It's an extreme example but with serial killers who were abused as a kid, we can feel empathy for the child in that story however we use the legal system to try to give consequences to the adult who made those choices. And with psychosis and mania it's hard to know if someone is in control or has any grip on reality. But with Gabbie there's certainly a big ego side of it where she (and she verbally admitted it) uses outbursts and utilizes and exaggerates (or lets loose) her mania as a means to grab attention from people to direct it at her music and whatever her mission is. It's selfish and in bad faith, but her ego side sees it as justified because she wants to help feed homeless people and impoverished children. But if she truly thinks she believes in God or has any faith or even non-spiritual morality in some kind of "right" path, she'd realize this is not the right way to go about it.

I actually worked in mental healthcare, and yes, you can start having psychotic episodes “out of nowhere” when you already have a deficiency in your brain that you are not aware of. But things like extreme stress or trauma (or drug abuse) can bring these mental health issues to the surface and from then on it’s walking on a tightrope for the rest of your life.

The idea of me being alone and manic inside my home and allowing a male stranger in is terrifying. I feel terrible for her. She clearly has no appropriate support system or action plan in place to be enacted when this happens. You plan when you’re well so things can be streamlined as possible and you can recover quicker when you’re unwell. I also hate how this is entertainment to many people. I also feel like police are not qualified to determine if someone is a risk to their own life. Perhaps they’re mildly qualified to assess threat to others, but they’re not suicide experts. And self harm counts as harm to self. Letting a strange male into your home is so very high risk. She is a danger to herself.

There are two types of Bipolar disorder. Bipolar 1 involves mania that last 1 to 2 weeks. Bipolar 2 is a manic episode that lasts 2 to 4 days, otherwise known as hypomania. Bipolar 1 tends to involve psychosis over bipolar 2 since full blown mania tends to target those parts of the brain for longer periods of time that involve dopamine and other brain chemicals. So she is bipolar and also has psychotic features during her manic episodes

As a person with bipolar shes showing clear signs of delusional mania. Shes showed signs of mania before it just hasnt been that bad, but bipolar episodes dont always have the same intensity. Ive personally noticed my worse ones kind of "creep up" on me to the point i dont even know im manic till after or someone sits me down and is telling me ( and sometimes i still dont believe it ) so i can only imagine her being so caught up in her hallucinations/scattered thinking that she doesnt know whats going on at all. i really feel for her because before i was medicated ive done some of the most cringe worthy, shitty, fucked up things on delusional manic episodes. (For reference there are 3 tiers delusional being the worst and hypo being the most mild) and i hope shes able to cope afterwards when she comes down and sees that the worst parts of her brain spilled their guts all over the internet. Also a friendly reminder that you shouldnt holdthe actions of people going through any sort of mania/psychosis against them. What you see in an episode isnt them.

I know it can flip super quickly, not just for bipolar (which is the most popular stereotype for that kind of behavior) and various medications and treatments that cause it as well, but for a lot of mental illnesses. When she asked the first question about him lying to her, she didn't sound like she was faking the "niceness", like when people smile in public or laugh in disbelief while being angry, she sounded genuine. Then when he didn't answer her question and tried to change the subject, you could almost hear the snap in her response, "That's for my acne you dumb f**k", and after she said that it all spiraled downhill. Once the anger hits, mercy is out the window.

A wellness check can be a good way to check on someone's mental health. It's like a child services intervention, but for independent adults. They look for big red flags like the person being delirious/disorderly, weapons, drugs, or unsanitary conditions. It often starts a relationship with a governing body to continue to check on the person and can lead to serious intervention. Example: an elderly person becomes increasingly unable to move around, shop, and cook for themselves, leading to malnutrition and a hoarded unsanitary house.

I never watched Gabbie Hanna, but every once in a while through the years I had heard stuff about her, and it does seem that she has had struggles with mental health issues in the past. From what I've seen and heard recently, she is probably either on a really bad drug trip, or she seems to be struggling with a manic bipolar disorder episode or possibly schizophrenic related delusions (onset for women is usually late 20's/early 30's, Hanna is 31). That being said I am not a professional, I am currently in my last semester for my MA degree in Psychology. The stuff about the cops and psych eval team showing up is odd, but if she talked to a doctor and they were concerned with her mental state they could have 302'd (302ing is when a doctor involuntarily commits a patient to a mental hospital) her. I hope she has a good support system and that she seeks out help, because the whole situation seems real scary. The video was great and interesting, thanks Ken and Buff! 😁

I don't know what it is about severe anxiety and depression that causes bouts of religious psychosis.) I was taken to a hospital and RELEASED TO GO HOME. But somehow had the slightest wherewithal to realize something wasn't right. I told them to take me to a psych ward anyway, and I'm glad I did because things just started getting worse... I thought everyone was a demon. If someone tried to talk to me I thought they were trying to kill me and going to attack me and bring me to hell, so I got defensively violent, and that's only what I can still remember. I was hallucinating things all around me and started screaming. Convinced I was being dragged to Hell by demons because of my chest pains. 4:20 to answer your question, Ken, look no further than the Koni 2012 incident, where the leader of the movement had a manic episode after being sleep deprived, and put under so much stress that he was found running around naked in public and spewing gibberish and had to be put into a mental ward for about 2 weeks, i think. He had an interview with Oprah about it. I reccomend watching Internet Historian's video on it, super informative on the struggles of public fame and pressure

My mom is bi-polar manic depressive, she's been diagnosed for decades, her manic episodes would happen randomly and they would last anywhere between a week up to a month. She called the cops on herself in one of her worst episodes because of the medication she was on was bad for her, it was when her doctor was changing her meds to see what worked for her.

You guys are so fortunate to not have had to deal with anyone in your life who has had manic depressive episodes or psychosis. I'm a psychology student, third year, and we've touched on a few psychosis disorders in my classes. It's absolutely possible for a person to "snap" into a manic/depressive episode on a whim, and it's incredibly common for them to have delusions or grandeur like believing they're the second coming of Christ. The only thing abnormal about THIS situation is the platform that Gabbi Hanna has to broadcast this to a generally very under-educated (in terms of mental health disorders) and concerned audience. Hopefully, this will spur an increase in general knowledge about this sort of thing, and Gabbi Hanna can take some comfort in a little good coming out of this situation.

11:47 this reminds me of something that happened with Social Repose (I know, ew). He shared a pic of his house on Google Maps satellite view and said "if you know where this is, knock on my door and ask for a glass of milk". A fan did just that. Repose then proceeded to call her out online which got her a ton of hate, and sadly the girl committed suicide.

The album came out in July and the numbers have not drastically changed for it. These are absolutely unrelated things. She is having an extreme manic episode. Can we stop acting like people exclusively do things for views, likes, and listens and consider them as actual human beings? She's done incredibly shitty things, yes, but this is not that. This is mania, plain and simple.
@manicmechanic28
@manicmechanic28 2 жыл бұрын
@@brooke7021 yeah. It didn't hit numbers. She pulled this stunt. And it didn't work because she's done it before and now people are just disappointed in her. Don't get me wrong. I think she is actually mentally sick. But I think the display we saw was a method of manipulation because of her lack of attention when it initially came out.
@brooke7021
@brooke7021 2 жыл бұрын
@@manicmechanic28 But why are you giving her this credit of being some grand mastermind? Kanye West does the same shit. But what if, just maybe, the release of an album or book or whatever, pushes into a manic state? What if it isn't some master plan for listens, just someone slipping into a manic episode from stress? Which literally happens to people who experience mania. I think her shitty behavior and mania are just unrelated and as someone who is Bipolar I would love it if people would stop being like "SHE ONLY HAS MANIA TO PROMOTE". This isn't normal behavior; this is mental illness. Not everything is a conspiracy theory is basically my point, some people are just unwell.
@manicmechanic28
@manicmechanic28 2 жыл бұрын
@@brooke7021 you could be right. I'm not a psychiatrist. Maybe you are. Idk. I've had experience with manic bipolar etc. But I won't diagnose her. She's being an asshole regardless. And mental illness isn't an excuse to be an asshole when you have the money, the people close who care, and thousands of people telling you that you are being harmful. In my opinion of course. And I absolutely could be wrong. But personally I'm way past thinking of anything she does as genuine.

I think what scares me the most is just how skinny she looks. You can almost make out the bones around her fingers and the thinness of her skin around her neck. I think if it’s not mental health it’s definitely drugs or an ED, maybe a combo of everything. Either way I really hope she’s safe and gets help.

I mean I lost lots of weight too with my panic attacks. I have certain safe foods to eat which are often things I think are healthier for me. Maybe the stress puts a lot on her which made her that way too or eating more healthy because certain food doesn’t awfully impact their psyche, brain or something. It could also be that the manic episodes are so bad she forgets to eat for quite some hours which caused her too lose weight too
