I've been one of Larry's subscribers for two years now, and the biggest reason is his uniqueness (if that's even a word, but it fits). He's a very genuine, unique individual in a medium where so many content providers are going after the lowest common denominator with sheer spectacle (e.g., mukbang videos or suggestive video content).

Kudos to the shout-out for McCartney's "Chaos and Creation". That album re-started my interest in McCartney's new music and the follow-up "Memory Almost full" was just as good though quite different from its predecessor. The next one "New" was pretty good though not quite as good as the other two. After that its been downhill for Mac. He can still turn a good tune once in awhile, but after "New" his voice went quickly into a downward spiral. Maybe he should talk to Ringo to see how he can get his voice to sound better in his late 70's/early 80's!

Well done Matt and good luck Larry.

So we get a sneak peak at Matt's upcoming band bio projects. I think youtube is so saturated with Beach Boys content, a lot of stuff gets lost in the forest. So the big bands of the 1960s are difficult to create a new perspective. The Beatles are also very saturated into youtube, but there is also a lot of nuance people have dug into with them.

I agree with many of your views, Matt. It is good to have an honest opinion. I enjoy Larry, too. He often makes me smile, and he also reviews a few artists that aren't as widely chosen by You Tubers. Both of you are pretty straight to the point which is very refreshing. Some KZbinrs can take forever getting to the point (not mentioning any names!) - especially in the group discussions. I sometimes have to turn them off. I think John Heaton is always interesting and honest, also, in his opinion. Although i don't rank the album as high as he does, what he says about Mind Games is consistent with his previous review from a while back, so i don't believe he's being biased. I do wonder, though, whether he would have bothered to review it if he hadn't been given a copy from Sean and Yoko. He shares my views about the outrageous price of these deluxe editions, and whether they are really necessary. Many of them i know he's skipped making a video about. Mind Games is a mediocre album by John Lennon's standards, but from the odd things i've heard on You Tube, it benefits more than most deluxe editions from a remix, so i'll definitely be listening out for it, but won't be buying it.

As for the Beach Boys, I've never met a Huge BB fan, certainly not in Britain, I think people dig individual songs, but Pet Sounds isn't in many collections, their popularity in the UK peaked in the late 70s with the advert for 20 Golden Greats
@popgoesthe60s525 ай бұрын
I guess the 20 Golden Greats is the single album version of Endless Summer, which ended their relevance. The fawning over Pet Sounds by Brian Wilson fans is a reaction to the Beach Boys being overshadowed by all the other classic rock groups. Sore losers.

Hello, Matt! Your channel is easily my favorite on KZbin, as I appreciate your honesty and expertise. While it may have been at the very least a nice gesture from the Lennons to send the box set your way, I think it actually benefits your content having not been given the set. I share many of the same sentiments about Mind Games, and ultimately, the Remixed album will still be the same collection of songs, and are likely to evoke similar feelings as the original 1973 mix.

Yeah, a lot of people would disagree that this was a dry spell for John. In fact, many people have already reevaluated the album and many more people will once the box set comes out. Idk, sometimes you come off as too authoritative as though you have the only right answer. “Dry spell” to whom? Gotcha, to you. You can’t state that as though it’s a universal truth or fact. I think you miss the mark in thinking that only the highly critical releases should get special treatment. That’s something I don’t agree with. In many cases, these sets are to provide more modern mixes to an otherwise older recording. You always want to keep material fresh to usher in a wave new fans to the product. The world is becoming more dominated by younger people, therefore, you want to market sound qualities to their ears in a lot of cases.
@popgoesthe60s525 ай бұрын

Larry Graves said that many of the songs he wasn’t solidly familiar with and you quickly came back with a “well, you know why that’s the case, right?” response even after Larry just said that he very much likes the album now.
