The fact that Benedict has tried to make “that’s tennis” a thing a few times throughout the years, but it took Scroll Deep to actually make it happen, is so funny
@ampersandcastle1091Ай бұрын
I wrote an extended essay on algospeak last year, comparing it to the language incels use (looksmaxxing, mogging, etc). The takeaway was essentially that while the two were created for different reasons, algospeak for circumventing content moderation to keep it accessible to a wider audience, and incel-speak to keep it confined within an insular community, both actually had a similar ‘insular’ effect and algospeak therefore doesn’t work. Not to brag or anything but it got me a first from Oxford and hey, that’s tennis! 😽 (big basket swing)

This video needs to blow up & get more eyes on it…algospeak drives me crazy😭 I get that creators are trying to protect their earning potential & not get demonetized or buried by the algorithm, but come ON. Watching a serious video about a sensitive topic, and having to decode the words & emojis they’re using to tell their story…it really takes you out of the moment & makes it difficult to watch.

My favorite algospeak is one I’m not sure of the origins of, it’s “That’s tennis”. It’s has several different meanings, and not everyone uses it, but it’s definitely been seen here and there! For Crabble Rowan, my favorite playground equipment was the sticks and the rocks we’d dig up in the school yard as the other kids got blisters on the monkey bars.

@bodyorphanageАй бұрын
it's wild to me that "influencers" are using this kind of language for videos because iirc it started with people censoring themselves on Twitter bc ppl would report your tweet just for having the word in it and the ban bots obv didn't care about the context. Like it was for a specific reason but now people are doing because they think TikTok won't push their content out on people's FYP??

This is a great question and a hard one to answer. As an adult I like anything that requires climbing, rather that be a net-like structure or a classic jungle gym. However, as a child I loved spinning things, from merry-go-rounds to more individual spinny wheels that you would hang from or clutch onto standing up (not sure what they're called, they each seem to be different at every playground that has them). We had a metal glider at one of my elementary schools that all the cool girls hung out at, and I also love those lines of hanging poles with little platforms at the bottom that you walk between (not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about). But I think if I take into account both my childhood preferences and adult ones, as well as simplicity and ubiquity, I think the best one is a tire swing - both the vertical kind for one kid and the horizontal kind, where multiple kids can swing at once. If I saw a tire swing as a kid I'd get super excited, and I'd have the same reaction now.
