This is just the tip of the iceberg with these KZbinrs. Mr Beast pretty much torturing people for a game show, Logan Paul scamming his fans through crypto rug pulls, and yet the mainstream up until now just seem to ignore what has been happening. That "1% tone off thing", the perfect example of this is a BBCs adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Guards books, The Watch! Sky and Aardmaan's interpretations of Terry's work were far from flawless, but they had the tone right. But the BBC, tried something different with The Watch and the tone was so far off, it was universally hated. The thing was, it's was actually well made and enjoyable, and would probably have become a cult classic if they'd removed the discworld references and just done it as humorous cyberpunk.

7:55 The problem for me saying "They're both doing the same thing" is that, yes they're selling similar products, but they're going about it in totally different ways, the advertising dynamic is completely different For instance, nobody is buying Lunchables because they want to support Kraft, but there's almost certainly a group of consumers that would buy Lunchly instead of Lunchables because they want to support KSI or Logan as creators despite them already having ridiculous levels of generational wealth You could argue that Kraft advertise to the parents of children, where Lunchly is directly targetting the kids themselves the same way Prime did. If anyone wonders what I mean by "the same way Prime did" ask yourself this - Are parent's going to see a product advertised and buy their kids hundreds of pounds worth of it at inflated prices on their own accord? Of course not, that whole situation was because the kids were so desperate for the new social status product that it spawned all that madness, especially once the price gouging started The entire schtick for Prime and Lunchly is that if you're not drinking/eating it at school you're not part of the cool kids club, like iPhone vs Android, and they even picked the enemies too in Powerade/Gatorade and Lunchables On another note... How long until Lunchly gets sued by the company manufacturing Lunchly for them once the hype dies down and the sales plummet like Prime? Which my local corner shop had priced at 4 for £1 yesterday

Late to commenting but started watching 'Rivals' last night and suddenly realised it was 0530 in the morning and I'd watched them all. It was great. I read the first two books as a teen at school and ended up writing what would now be regarded as poor fanfic with a friend. Cooper's books are fantastic - so rude (I learned much) funny and cruel. Almost all the characters are unlikeable in some way but some how she manages to write an enjoyable rip-roaring tale you want to read. I loved the series!! I have a bit too much to say but I'll try to keep it brief. LOVED Katherine Parkinson, Neffessa Williams, Claire Rushbrook, Victoria Smurfit and Emily Atack - all amazing. I was less convinced by Alex Hassell as RCB but I forgot my objections within about 10 mins. Tennant is obviously superb. The supporting cast are all amazing. However, the most astonishing thing for me was Danny Dyer who was utterly lovely brilliant appealing and perfect. And I'm trying to avoid spoilers but I have never cried at a sex scene before but I did in this because it was so very sweet and lovely. Awww. If I have a complaint it's that I wish they'd done 'Riders' first. RCB's is such an unspeakable utter sh*t at the start, to begin his story at this half way point somewhat undermines his tale. But I sort of understand - there aren't many appealing characters in 'Riders'. 'Rivals' is a molecule more forgiving. I can't wait for Pt2 and VERY VERY much want more Rutshire. It made me resubscribe to Disney Plus and I'm so glad I did.

As with a lot of music not just KZbinr music, it doesn't matter if it's good music companies just want it to do good numbers. It's trending number 1 on KZbin and has 27 million views when I just checked. It's terribleness will just make more people check it out and its a vicious cycle. Record companies don't want good art, they want bankable songs that make money, and looking at the news today KSI is a judge on BGT, which translates to more audience numbers and therefore more sales for adverts for the production.

Prime is owned in majority and manufactured by Congo Brands (60%) co-owned by Max Brands and Trey Steiger. It’s why it’s pisses me off when they say they are making a business - they aren’t as you rightly say - maybe they come up with some advertisement ideas but they didn’t create the drink sort out all the details etc. They are no different to KZbinrs with shadowraid legend or nord vpn or surfshark sponsors, they just have managed to sell themselves for more (impressive in itself).

I love you two and your pod, but I couldn't help notice the irony that after 15 minutes of lambasting KZbinrs for essentially being modern infomercial cynics, you went straight into your own infomercial for a Sky TV show. That isn't to diminish how much the Logan Pauls and KSIs of the world make me nauseous; they are total grifters. But everybody making content online is ultimately in the same game to some extent. No one is above advertising and sponsorships. Not even your own pod. Sure, you aren't selling out like KSI, but you are schlepping products that aren't necessarily always going to be of quality, or things you even personally like.

I do think celebrity culture is slightly better, but the bad aspects are not gone, they just transformed. Hitpieces in the past were mocking, now they are packaged as concern. Fans in the past were happy to get the attention of their favourites just enough to get an autograph. Now fans use celebrities to gain attention to themselves, running towards them with phone already in hand. I've seen a video of Dua Lipa just walking down the street and a woman jumped in her space, phone already at selfie angle, then security swatted her away and making her drop the phone, but she didn't even flinch, she just picked it up and continued. Also a Dua Lipa example was her sharing an image of herself on social media that a paparazzo took, and the latter sued her for not asking for permission to use it, even though he didn't get permission to photograph her in the first place. They are all parasites.
