I don't think so. He destroys the mercy button because he knows stalemate isn't an option. Note that the lack of a mercy button means you cannot flee either. He's forcing it to be a fight in which he wins and the monsters go free, or you win and can leave the underground

He doesn't want to hurt you, but he has, he remembers all of what he did, and realize that "he don't deserve mercy" while everyone should have mercy, for him, he doesn't.

I expierienced Undertale, unfortunately, through a lets play instead of personal playthrough. But the fact that i watched Jack's let's play always gives me a pleasant relief, becouse i know - the best expierience i could have had was at his channel. He never missed a single moment, without a proper reaction. And his sincere expression is what made me want to rewatch the final part at least 3 more times... What a game, heh. Good thing there is Overtale to continue this amazing story!

I had the same experience. I had dismissed the game when I first heard about it as I usually dislike retro style games, but heard tons of great things about it. Then I got sick and stayed home from work and was too tired to do anything, so I binge watched it after I got hooked after the first episode. I feel like Asgore is often overlooked. I mean he’s not weak if I’m not mistaken he’s one of 2 characters that effects the menu the other one being sans with his bones.

He and Toriel both have 80 ATK and DEF. It’s made pretty clear that they both hold back α hell of α lot. It’s possible that, if Asgore actually knew what you were in the Genocide route, he could have taken you out α la Undyne.

I mean, Flowey straight up changes the entire game, making the ITEM and MERCY buttons not appear at all, the ACT buttons are hidden, and the FIGHT button only appears every once in a while. Then you've got the player who changes their ACT to SAVE, which was also able to withstand the omega rainbow blast, unlike the other options which were thrown away.

The first time I've heard about UT Asgore was the first one that i saw everybody fought and from his expression in the pre battle to his evil grin during the fight my first thought of the game is that the monsters are not evil but nice and had a mind of their own but they are forced be evil to fight you because they are programmed to do so.
