The video game healing is so relatable. In kingdom hearts 3 the secret boss can take your items and use it to heal themselves over time. Then if you had an item called a kupo coin you would be able to revive once you hit 0 only once. It’s very similar to a phoenix down in final fantasy. Anyways the secret boss can also steal that and if you kill him he revives himself and you have to fight him all over again

I think Pokemon did it first. Nothing more frusturating than you fighting a stong gym leader only for them to fully heal their pokemon when you think you won. Some of the first games did that.
