This video is one of five museum visits I made while in the San Francisco Bay area in the days predeeding my Train Odyssey 7.
In this video, I visit Moffett Field in Mountain View, California, and take a look at the Moffett Field Historical Society Museum, check out the restoration of famous Hanger 1, and view Hangers 2 & 3.
The other museums are Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California, Oakland Aviation Museum, Travis Air Force Base Aviation Museum near Fairfield, California, and the Computer History Museum in Mountain View.
My intention in producing these 'museum walk-throughs' is to give prospective visitors a batter idea of what artifacts a museum has, where the museum is located, how much time to allow to see the museum, etc.

Some of my earliest memories is being on that tarmac with my mother saying goodbye to my father as he began his deployment to SE Asia during the early part of the Vietnam conflict. He flew in a C-130 with VR-7 which was based in that hanger.

I was stationed at Moffett from 1989-1993. Loved it there! Thanks for posting this. Lots of great memories there.

I remember in the early 80's going to there air shows. Those were great, lots of people came. In the mid 80's i worked at the 80x120 wind tunnel, as an intern. One of my friends always bragged how his grandpa used to climb up the hangers to change the light bulbs.

I spent over 10 years at Moffett Field flying on P3 Orions. It was a most enjoyable experience.

I remember being stationed there. Our planes were in hangar two. I do remember people telling me that clouds would form in hangar one sometimes. I never saw this happen, but then I was only in it once. I also remember having to wear my jacket many days, even in mid summer. If the wind was coming from the west across the Alaska current, sometimes you could see your breath. It was sunny almost every day in the summer.

I was stationed there from 83-87 with a VP squad. I will never forget it. It makes me dizzy seeing hanger 1 so naked.

Thank you so much for this tour! The Moffett Field area was a big part of my growing up in the Bay Area. As a scout I recall a tour in the late 50s where we were inside the main hangar, and several other facilities. In 1974 or 75 i worked adjacent to the field and frequently witnessed the departure of U2s on their mapping missions. The noise was deafening even at our distance. I was told that by the time the aircraft reached the end of the runway they were at 12,000feet! The P3 Orions were also a big part of my life. I lived in Mt View and was in the filght pattern as the airplanes did touch and goes. Apologies for my rambling and thank you so much for another great video

That was my fathers first duty station when he joined the navy. Met my Mom there and the rest is history. I remember him saying there were so many different types of navy planes at the time even P-3 crewman like himself had to be rated as a plane captain for 3 other types of aircraft since Moffett was a transient base when they had to pull flight line duty.

The redwood that was removed ebbed up in executive offices and boardrooms throughout the bay area. They didn't dispose of any of them. I served in VP31 1973-1976 in the Aviation Electronics shop.

The Hornet at 12 minutes is an F/A-18C Hornet. It is not a Super Hornet as it has the earlier round intakes. The absence of the dogtooth leading edge to the wing is less obvious because the wings are folded.

You talk too much and take a long time to get where you are going. And then you showed only a couple of airplanes. I was hoping your channel would have more aircraft than some of the others. Disappointed to say the least.

Larryhammond, you are entitled to your opinion, but I hope you realize that the things you complain about here are highly subjective, and differ from most of my viewers. Most appreciate the narration and extra context and information. Also, you seem to be complaining that THIS video does not have many airplanes in it, but then it is about historic hangers and makes no promise about airplanes. The only planes in the area where civilians can get to are just those few I showed. If you want to see lots of planes, my channel has many walk-throughs of actual aviation museums.
