From Fulda, Minn. , here are the Continental Co-ets. This girl group was actually very busy in the mid-Sixties, touring the Mid-West and Canada mostly.
They recorded this rocker on Iowa's IGL label.
Carol Goins on lead guitar, Nancy Hofmann on bass, Carolyn Behr on rhythm guitar, and Vicki Steinman on drums)

Last year heard on the radio how in the early part of the 20th century there were as many women Big Bands as there were mens', and just as good. They have been swept away, forgotten until people believe there were only male Big Bands.The very sad thing is, girl bands from the 50's 60's 70's even 80's have been treated in the same way. Never heard any of these girl bands on the radio when growing up in the 70's and a wide range used to be played.Thanks to all the uploaders of these girl bands.

Minka S. K. I think it's the production they also was signed up to.The production companies they had a deal weren't recognizable in a national level,but only limited states.And their management didn't give them gigs for bigger audiences.Garage Rock overall last 1960s even for male musician wasn't mainstream or at least,remembered mainstream.

The women's big bands were seen as a wartime phenomenon, replacements for the men who had gone off to fight, even though they had been established well beforehand. If you want to read more on the subject, I would recommend Sherrie Tucker's book called Swing Shift. Yes, unfortunately all-girl bands have historically been treated as novelties over the decades.

I had the misfortune of living in Fulda, MN for 6 years, but I think I might have bought the bass player's amp! It was a Kustom 250 from the 60's with the cool cushion covering. I can't imagine there would have been much vintage rock gear sitting around in a town that small. Who knows!
