Pretty and talented as well...sure, there were many great girl singers from the 60s but, how many were Garage musicians also...very few. Kudos to these rockin' gals .....brings my mind to "Having A Party" by legend Wanda Jackson......good 2 C nicer 2 hear. Thanks you.

my continued congrats to Blacflag for creating this parallel universe - where I can still believe that I live in the 60s...which also reminds me that I played guitar w/ a buddy then and we called ourselves Blackfly

This is so cool Can you post up each band playing maybe 3 songs, not just up there for a couple seconds. I want to see more about this. Yeah, can you show these bands playing more, this is great to see these bands. I hope they all get back together and go on tour, like to see them in concert..

@blacflag I have all of the Girls In The Garage comps, which is how I learned about these '60s all-female bands, and have been a fan since the '90s. I totally agree that most people are misinformed about when the first all-female band started, some people even think the Go-Go's were the first all-female band, which is ridiculous. Goldie and the Gingerbreads were the first all-female band to be signed to a major, not sure if they were the first all-female band ever though. Do you know who was?

I have written about some of these groups, and interviewed some of the band members. I have pieces I did about the Luv'd Ones and Daughters of Eve published in magazines and they have also been posted on my blog, which is devoted to underrated female musicians from the '60s-'80s. I am not sure if they will let me post the URL here, but if you search girlsinthegarage.wordpress, it should come up.

@one4daboox hi, thanks, i have some 60s garage girl records as well....i wasn't planning on doing any more just now, if i was to do more, they'd either be 60s again or maybe 50s, i have quite a bit of fifties female rocker music....

@57highland yeah, i know of them, there's a photo of the band's earlier incarnations, svelts, wild honey, somewhere in these slideshows....i wouldn't like to say who was first all girl band but there were quite a few female rockers in the 50s

@roxiestar74 checked it, interesting.....naturally, i agree, there were a lot of girl bands in the 60s and earlier that never get the credit they deserve.....i think any muso, and there's loads of them, who claim any girl band from 70s onwards was THE first should never be allowed near print again.......i've spoken to a couple but there's loads i'd like to hear about, i could give you a massive list
@blacflag14 жыл бұрын
@13loomisst - i know who most of them are, did five slideshows like this, but there's a few i don't know, and right now she is one of them...

This is so exciting! I collect music by all-girl rock groups--never knew so many existed from the 60s! I have an album by The Cake, Feminine Complex, The Shaggs, and am looking to buy one by the Pandoras on eBay. Thank you so much for these slideshows. Now I have to look these up. Do you plan on making any for the 70s or 80s?

@roxiestar74 i've heard worse than that, national music reporters and djs in the uk refer to the spice girls as first all female band, no joke.....i think it depends how far back you want to go, i've seen photos of all female bands from the turn of 19th century....i couldn't put my finger on a specific person, though i think the 50s and rock is the best place to start.....i have a lot more from the 60s but don't want to over post....i'll have a think about it

@roxiestar7413 жыл бұрын
@blacflag They should know better in the UK especially since Goldie and the Gingerbreads had a hit song there during the '60s with Can You Hear My Heartbeat?. Which Herman's Hermits took from them and made in to a hit in the U.S.. A male band taking away an all-female band's glory is nothing new though. I live in the U.S. and most people are clueless about women's music history here too, which is why I write about it. I blame the misogyny in journalism and the music industry, which still exists.
