Not gonna lie, i like both scenes, and i think they both work, I would even say I like James reaction more in the remake} What i dont like about the remake is the goofy ass cut before the cutscene where James teleports in front of Maria

a lot more frantic, james is in front so it makes more sense, you can see the cut scene happening as you play

I just realized PH T-posing when he spears Maria in the HD Collection 😂 Love Remake, but I do think OG did this scene better.

I love how the remake gets it a little more real with the shock of realizing Maria is dead and it’s because of you. The utter shock in James’s face and the realization when the elevator closes that now a woman is dead and it’s your fault. This is a great fuck you to those who were rough on Bloober Team.

It’s not a fuck you to everyone who hates the remake it looks fucking atrocious in the remake. Replaced a bunch of frantic scenes of the elevator with a bunch of close ups of Maria’s face as her character model spazez out in some of the worst facial animation I’ve seen since mass effect andromeda. It’s really bad, there’s no tone or intended effect, it’s just meant to be a bunch of close ups of a character model trying to look distressed before they die. If they had the budget of a proper Sony game maybe then they’d be able to pull off facial close ups that rely heavily on expressive animations to get across their narrative meaning but blooper absolutely did not achieve that with this. With stuff like this you either pull it off flawlessly and it looks excellent, or it looks fucking ridiculous and reeks of uncanny valley. You have to be delusional to think this looks good.

To all those thinking we were too rough towards Bloober team, you now get to see why. Yall will have to understand someday that graphics is not all it takes to make a great game, or to make scenes impactful. In the case of Silent Hill 2, what mattered most was these type of choices that impacts the storytelling bc in the end, that’s mostly the mark this game will leave in your memory, not just gunning down creatures by dozens.

Agreed, as much as I enjoy the remake for what it is. They missed the mark in terms of the story and the whole vibe (in certain areas more than others, like this scene). This is one of many impactful scenes in the original and as you see the remake is completely flat and does not land the way it is supposed to. One crucial ingredient in the Team Silent SH games is the symbolism, yet in the remake it's either stripped entirely or toned down. I do commend Bloober for what they did, but the game does miss that uncanny valley vibe from the og games. Something that made the games feel so eerie and strange.

I don't care. I watched a playthrough of the OG when I was 12, in 2012. I was in awe. But, I never would have actually played if it wasn't for the remake. It's now in my top 3 games. The OG SH 2 was already one of the best games there is. The remake just improves it and introduces it to a new generation and keeps the legacy alive. Yes this scene was a bit lacking but there's so much good stuff in the remake. Stop being butthurt

Not butthurt, you’re not gonna strong arm people into paying respect to a development studio that with all the technological innovations and extra budget managed to deliver a game that looks worse than the original. Like other comments have said, it’s not all about graphics. Many mistakes were made in the remake that are grating and detract from the experience. You’ve never played games so you’ll call a lifeless remake like this a masterpiece because you are regarded.

@@SigmaPhonkBabyGronk No, they tell different things, and I prefer the original too. They way she cries and how you cannot see her while she is struggling actually makes it more heartbreaking. In the remake they make more emphasis in the shock that James had when Maria was killed.

They completely drained this scene dry in the remake, James just drops to his knees and then brushes it off. They made a lot of these cutscenes weird and awkward imo.

The remake is ridiculous. The scene is extremely ridiculous. There is no dialogue interaction. The intensity of the scene is killed . What a disappointment .

This only proves the remarkable job from Bloobler. Scene on Remake is MUCH better in any aspect possible and it's only because of visual graphics. Everything is better.

There is stuff that is better but other details that I didn't like, for example the soundtrack in the original was way better and the way Maria cries in the original was also way better.

Graphically speaking that’s the only improvement but everything else was stripped from it imo a lot of the remake feels lazy or awkward.
