YS IX and Origin Limited Edition Unboxing

Since my two YS Limited Editions arrived around the same time, might as well unbox them together. And now I can start YS IX too!

Ys IX is the best game in the series in my opinion, I finished it a week ago. I have also played all of them with the exception of Ys V.

I've heard so many good things about YS IX. I've played about 3 hours so far and enjoying it massively. Obviously I can't pass any judgement on the story till I've completed it though.

Hi. I will not agree. Worse graphics (textures are not sharp, bad antialiasing balance, textures of the environment and objects are very uneven, worse colors), larger but empty spaces, not very diverse locations, no bigger dungeon system, easier difficulty level, chaotic combat, weak additional missions etc. It is fine, but a lot of potential has been wasted.

@@Sam-sv4yy Nah, better graphics, faster combat, the city is fun to explore and you are not stuck in a boring deserted island. Oh and the story is much better.

@@Ristyo1992 Better graphic ? - only about better use of engine and more lightning and reflections, but the locations and their style are empty and boring, like some cheap mmorpg. Aliasing is poorly done, it spoils the color scheme, and you can still see steps in the textures. Better because the fight is faster? There is chaos and the low level of difficulty, and the opponents are not very diverse, and the combat mechanics themselves have hardly changed at all. This whole exploration is very limited, if you go through it a few times you will see that it is completely schematic. There are no sensibly developed dungeons, which is surprising. History - nothing better, just a bit different. The game has a strong downgrade, because they also wanted to release it on a switch that has its limitations.

I think I got the EU collectors edition like 2 years ago. I finally played Ys 1&2 Chronicles and had some money to buy this CE. I did buy it on steam before, but I just couldn't pass up the ability to own it on Switch physically. Ys Origin was so great. Really fun to play. I am now 2 games away from Ys 9. I wish I could have gotten that CE for Ys 9 too. But hey, I'm just glad I have it at all. But I sadly got so late to the party that I do not really have any Collectors Editions for Ys and Trails. But at least I have some of them. I hope I can finish Napishtim soon. I am glad Ys Origin got you into the series. I got into the series because of your videos about the games. I am glad I was able to play most of them already.

Ys Origins was my first Ys game I played. It was a $5 download on the Xbox Store, so I bought it for the series X. Played it........and Yah I ended up preordering the Collectors Edition of it off limited run for the switch(The one your unboxing in this video). I also bought all 3 Ys releases on the ps4 because of how good this game was...also the price of Ys 8 jumped so I got in on the EU version for $40..........not gonna lie Ys Origins really does a good job getting a person into the series now I want to play the whole line up. Also ordered the collector edition of Ys 9 for the switch. Keeping that one and Ys origins sealed since I ended up buying Ys 9 for the ps4 also.

I thought Ys VIII had one of the best endings in the series, but IX man... I wasn't even that attached to any of the characters yet it still got me sentimental about all of them.

Cool special editions, I still haven't bought or played Ys Origin or Ys 9 but I loved Memories of Celceta & Ys 8 so much they made me a Falcom fan :)

Glad to see Ys IX arrived safely. Hope you enjoy it as I loved it as much as Ys VIII. The hardcover artbook is definitely my favorite part of the special edition. Thanks for sharing Ys Origins as well, I have a std version for the switch and enjoyed the gameplay a lot.

I really liked Ys 9. I didn't like it as much as Ys 8, since 8 was the first I played, and I liked the setting and characters a bit more, but Ys 9 had a lot of elements from 8 that I loved, and I cared quite a bit about the characters by the end to the point where I cheered out loud at some of their endings. I will say that it struck me as a lot easier than Ys 8, which may be a problem for some people. For me, it just meant I could make more steady progress through the game, which I like to do. I don't like hang ups.

Can't wait to play Ys IX myself when I get it. Ys Origins is also pretty good. It offers a good background to the history of the Ys kingdom. Ys 7 is actually my first Ys game and it was a lot of fun despite not being familiar with any of these characters. Trails in the Sky FC was my first Falcom game and that pushed me to try more Falcom games.

YS 7 is a great game, I got a lot of enjoyment out of it considering I had played some of the earlier titles. The same goes for Ark of Napishtim. YS IX is already playing on those older titles in it's references, and that's a good sign for me!

For sure, it may not be my favourite YS game, but it's the title that got me in to Falcom and indirectly led me to Trails. The video I've got planned is gonna be a bit different in structure (it's gonna be sort of a 'background on my life and how it connected with Trails', so it's a mix of two elements there.

I think the story in 9 was slightly better than 8s BUT 8 beats it in every other category like music, experience etc. in my opinion, still a very good game nonetheless.

If I hadn't literally just bought Origins and played through all the routes, I would have absolutely bought that limited edition, it's honestly my favorite Ys in the franchise in terms of gameplay and bosses. But I don't have time to play it again any time soon and I'm not a huge collector.

Ys Origin had a badass soundtrack ,Tower of the Shadow of Death from Ys Origin was playing on the jukebox in Randy's room ! Ys9 was amazing I wasted no time to platinum it. The freedom of movement make the gameplay really fun and fluid. Enjoy !

It's a cool game indeed! I've only played 3 hours so far, but the multi-dimensional routes that you can explore it a joy. You're not just running through the levels in this one, you're looking in every nook and cranny.

Nicely done video, good job! I've finally been able to place my Ys IX CE order for the second time this week. Hope we'll see a better solution from NISA Europe for the next Falcom game, I don't want to import every single game to Germany from now on. Ys IX is really fun, I'm playing the digital version and I guess I'm getting close to the end (final chapter). I don't think that I like it as much as VIII so far, but it's one of the series finest for sure. I've got the Strictly Limited version of Origin, but the Limited Run version does look superior indeed!

Mate I'm sorry that your L.E got cancelled in the first place. I understand that NISA couldn't really predict what was gonna happen, but to straight up cancel an order that people had waited ages for is a kick in the teeth. I honestly think they're gonna try and move the EU base of operations to another country in Europe, they can't feasibly keep it in the UK as it's guaranteed to lower sales in the long run. As for YS Origin, I might have been overexaggerating on it, but from what I remember it had barely anything that I wanted. Did it actually come with the sticker sheet in the end?

Definitely. They usually go out of print pretty fast so never hesitate. Each story is mostly self contained aside from a few references here and there so don't worry about where to start.

Oh, the Ys IX limited edition. I live in Germany and still have to wait till mid April before it gets shipped. >_< Regardless, I've bought the standard edition for a cheap price and played it for some hours. Gameplay is pretty much identical to Ys VIII with some additional exploration methods. While the story and setting are pretty interesting and fit the new gameplay features I still like the story and setting of VIII more. The soundtrack of VIII is also better. I saw the pictures of the Altina figure a few hours ago. Another hole in my pocket. Did you buy the Ys Origin edition directly from Limited Run or somewhere else?

I hope your limited edition gets to you soon, the situation does suck to be honest. :( I've played about 3 hours so far. Definitely see the similarities between the two, but that's not a bad thing for me at all since I loved YS VIII anyway, I'll take that. The YS Origin L.E was from Limited Run games directly, I believe it's the only place you can get it from a first hand seller.

The Lost Sword Novel explained how Adol Lost Caliocerion ( YS 7 Legendary Weapon )- serving as a bridge in-between VII and IX - Its like an epilogue for VII and is a good read actually.

Recently picked up Ys IX after loving VIII and I can say I'm really not having fun with it, the visuals are very bland everything but the characters seems to be a drab grey colour and the framerate isn't the best which can be quite jarring to look at. I'm up to chapter 4 and the story is also pretty confusing right now, I won't go into it because I don't want to spoil it for those that might be looking forward to playing it but it's not making any sense right now. Ultimately I'm in two minds on if to drop it and start bravely default 2, if anyone's played through the entire game could you tell me if the story gets any better (I know my issues with the visuals won't but I can cope with that)

I think that's my only issue so far, the frame rate is sub-optimal in the city. Not a problem on turn based games, but on ARPG's it's a completely different story.

@@TheKisekiNut I have seen the drops in frame rate on the PS4 Pro from some lets players and as you say they are really bad for this type of game. Lucky for me I played it on PS5 where it runs flawless and no doubt it will be the same or even better experience on the PC version when it's released, I mean it's PH3 (Durante) doing the port.

Difficult to compare since Trails and YS are quite different. But if they were all melded in to one massive ranking list, YS VIII would be in the top 3 for me easily.
