Thanks for the review. When I get a few more miles in, I may consider a better chain for the all GX system on my Core 3. I have ridden Shimano XT level components forever and am really struggling with shift under load (not ham fisted) sensitivity of the SRAM.

A few thoughts on the Izzo, I wonder if you feel the same about it. I switched from a Bronson I have put a few hundred miles on mine. The rear shock is very difficult to lock out / adjust on the fly. The upper rear triangle links are chunky and one can hit the inside of your knees on them as you pedal The rear shock sits in a pocket in the lower frame. This fills up with grime and moisture.

Yeah; the high end Izzo was built around a remote lockout but that doesn’t translate to models without the lockout system. I actually swapped the rear shock out for a TTX, making the lockout lever much easier to use. You are right about the “shock gutter” collecting debris. It gives the bike some personality. Coming from a Bronson, the Izzo is likely a bit of a change. It runs similar to the Blur TR but with slacker geometry.

Try Vittoria Mezcals...fast yet grippy in dry/damp conditions. They get a little overwhelmed in UK winter mud and slop.

Good info. Out of curiosity - is the Izzo if set up with XC tires and carbon rims capable of performing in a local XC race ? Did you feel the Izzo was noticeably slower than the Spur in that race you mentioned?

Yeah, I think you could race it. I ran it for about 50 or so miles in an endurance race with XC tires and it did okay. With carbon rims and cockpit, you could shave some weight. It’s not an XC race weapon like my Blur, but it’s dignified enough. Some of the higher end Uncaged versions of the Izzo are more race worthy, but the cost is much higher.

Tires are often a function of the environment and will invariably involve compromise. Where I typically ride, it’s dry with some sand and allot of loose over hard pack. Given that, theses tires seem to do well. They would probably be a poor choice in a wetter area of the world such as the PNW, and they do add some rolling resistance and rotational weight compared to the Forecasters but still, a reasonable choice given where I typically ride.

@@TheAncientScholar Ikon works well also on rear. I've been all over AZ, SoCal, UT, NM the last 3 years on a Rekon/Ikon combo, shredding everything I used to on DHF/Aggressor combo, absolutely zero issues.
