It was eight years ago for me, when I first heard the 'Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar' radio plays. Each of us together, hold the spirit of Lorraine Broderick. Imagine what this kind of love can do. Thank you for all the effort you put into the stellar "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" series, making it available to those of us unable to hear it until now. Thank you!

Of many excellent Bob Baily episodes as Johnny Dollar, this is perhaps the most powerful and emotional.

After repeatedly listening to these YTJD with Bob Bailey I must say this is about my favorite with a good hopeful ending and a little less physical violence. -oh I know the guys like that kind of action so I know it’s probably necessary. Thanks for reviving these wonderful Old Time Radio programs.

Speaking as a "guy," this is also my favorite episode of YTJD. I wasn't a fan because of the "physical violence," especially in the medium of radio. I was a fan because of the writing, the acting, the unique twist of the insurance angle in every show, and the amazing performance of Bob Bailey.

Great story and really hit close to home. I grew up with a girl like that. Beautiful charismatic smart athletic.. seemed to have it all and have it all together. Breaks my heart how her story ended tho. Just goes to show you never know what another person is going through until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. RIP Nicki 🙏🏻

Bob Bailey will always be Johnny Dollar to me. I can’t even listen to the episodes without him. This was truly a wonderful episode. The whole time all of these men were talking about how terrible of a girl she was, I was thinking about how losing everyone you loved (both parents and uncle) can really hurt your soul and change your life. It doesn’t make Lorraine a bad person, just a broken one. She had a life full of heartbreak and all any of these grown men wanted from this young girl was her youth and beauty. I was so much like Lorraine when I was young. I had so much loss and trauma and it broke me. All grown men wanted from me was my youth and beauty too. Now I’m old and no longer beautiful, but I’m healing and loved by my husband for who I am as a person. Sorry for rambling. This episode just really spoke to me.

Is it because she gave voice to Cinderella's stepmother and Maleficent the evil fairy that Eleanor Audley always sounds a little sinister, even what she's playing a helpful nun?

The expression "a Grand Rapids cheer" is used in this episode. Does anyone know its origin or meaning?

CJ I searched the web, and I could find nothing for this expression. Google came up blank. Nothing but advertising for chairs, restaurants, and cheerleading schools.

@@michaeldegen3850 Unless he's saying "Grand Rapids Chair". There was a Grand Rapids Chair Co. popular in the late 1940s into the 50s.

@@cjpenning After listing to it seven times I think he IS saying "Grand Rapids Chair", and there is a company with that name, like you said. Commercial and restaurant furniture. Makes me wonder how the script writer living in 1950s California heard this phrase.
