As someone who has been a paid member of moderation/admin team in childrens online games, this is wild but unfortunately not uncommon. Effective moderation is a significant expense that just goes up the larger a game is, and a lot of companies just... don't wanna. Regardless, the level of chat neglect SSO has here is just appalling, and embarrassing as someone who has done the job elsewhere. There are moderation styles that can very much back up safety guarantees, but to make the promise to parents and then fail so spectacularly isn't a good look, to customers or competitors.

I am an adult player and a mother of three daughters and I WOULD NEVER let my kids play this game by themselves. My oldest does get on but she has no idea there is a chat feature, and I am always with her, right next to her. This world, and the internet, is so scary.

the worst part is TODAYS update they put a little question mark at the top of the chat. And it talks about WHAT YOU CAN'T SAY. I don't think Sso is going to realize that people saying nasty things are going to follow these rules.

It's kind of a legal thing, if you have it written and easy to access what you CANNOT say, if someone is caught breaking said rule they can't go 'WELL I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THAT RULE!' That's why. Yeah, they're not gonna care whatsoever but it's more of a formality than anything. Without it they'd be even more powerless which is saying something because they already don't do nearly enough.

Happens more often than people would like to admit unfortunately. (Both versions of Animal Jam are other notorious ones. And I've had terrible experiences, even on the "PG" server, on the brony fan game PonyTown.) Though, at least most other games have a report button on ALL servers. So there's a bit more hope on them.

@galacticghostie Agreed, personally I've seen some of the people in a Horse isle three club ( Not going to say the name for the sake of privacy) say some things that looked extremely innaprotate and while taken out of context, and there were some things said about the Horse Isle mods that would give most people a heart attack, and the thing is that there are kids on that game, I joined that club when I was 12 and I joined the discord soon after, and so I saw some ' interesting ' things said overall, I don't really mind the constant swearing in the discord but they said some things that a 13 year old shouldn't be seeing, I feel like this a huge problem in games where there's a chat without human moderators

As an older player, I'm extremely disappointed in the community that allows this along with the developers. The developers seem to want to cover their asses and not take responsibility. I've said it before and I still stand by that point: Star Stable does NOT care about their players. They care about the money coming in, but they don't care about their player's experience while playing. They don't fix mods (or at least take months to do so), they don't offer anything to older players, constantly get rid of old events (No could-kingdom this year) and they couldn't care less about their chat being a mess. They. Don't. Care. Edit: I play in a german server and the "Breeding" roleplays are really popular....

Literally today I opened global chat to say "Happy Pride" (some people were already saying it) and it was followed by a group of people saying "jesus hates f#gs" over and over again. I got involved in trying to stop it and this lead to that same group of people telling me to "sK#LLs yourself, you deserve to>>>". Ofc I reported it to the support team, but I doubt anything will get done. It's sad that myself, as a player, and MANY others often give up when trying to report because of how bad their customer service is. It's disgusting really. I used to be a moderator for a big game. (I will not get into specifics about the game). But I'm kind of happy that they shut the entire moderator team down. Kids really shouldn't be moderators for various reasons, most notable: being a moderator is a lot of hard work and kids shouldn't be slaving away. Especially not for in game rewards, or worse: nothing at all. That said: having a moderator team is still incredibly important for an online game. SSO being a million dollar company should just hire some adults to do this job. Both having kids as mods and not having mods at all is so incredibly greedy and wrong.

A teen may think they're mature for their age but the moment they experience something gruesome, or disgusting, it could really hurt them Kids also do not have the same insights, and experiences, that an adult would have. I'd be able to catch inappropriate behavior because I know what words and phrases people use to get to a specific thing. But a teenager wouldn't and shouldn't know those things. That's why when kids moderate, people walk all over them, intimidate them, and they witness things that would 100% traumatize them. Even most adults that moderate SOCIAL media, get traumatized. People don't last long in the social media moderation fields because you see and hear things that would ruin you. Putting a kid through that is irresponsible. On top of that it violates child labor laws in majority of countries, and violates workers rights, because they're not being compensated for doing that work.

Well I mean, I do know someone who was 14 yrs when they got accepted to moderate a discord server. A proper one, not just a friends server. The others were adults. Then if thats a lie or whatnot I don't know, but its what would make me think there are some with enough sense. And you can still enjoy the game without those purchasable items. Though sometimes the purchaseables give a boost or anything of that sort. But they tend to not force your hand with paywalls

@@Its_Asteria The paywalls in Roblox horse games are usually super trivial amounts compared to SSO for the perk it gives. I usually DO buy a perk or two in games I heavily enjoy and invest time in. It's only 0.50-5$ for something entirely great perk wise. Not like a skin on a horse that is 20$ or anything. (Although, they totally CAN/DO have things like that, but that's for the finically irresponsible to fall trap into.. by choice or gain perk, it's for those who are impatient and want a flex thing ASAP. Cause usually, you can go get the thing via in game ways eventually.) I mean, it's a game still, the creators do deserve pay for their work, that IS the incentive to make games is money, and passion is usually second or down the list of reasons.. that's just how it is.

Exactly, this would be the easiest and most cost effective way to go on about it. A profanity filter that has a list of known bad words and will censor those and similar words, or cause timeout/kick if used frequently by same user. Its a bunch of code, but not something that would take ages to do

Exactly. This is something animal jam for example does better than SSO. Their chat blocks certain words and phrases, and blocks variations of those words and phrases because players would find work arounds. Roblox also does this as well. Some things still get through the filter on roblox but it generally is very good, it censors/tags potentially inappropriate things and anything perceived as personal information

I have asked for years for them to add human moderation. It is probably the only way to get the kids to stop spamming nsfw texts in the chat. The times I have reported full on sexting in the chat and the devs not even punishing these people is insane. Back in 2013 when I was younger and just started playing sso, I was a little toxic. By toxic I mean telling other kids that their youtube channel will not get any attention (awful of me, I know) and THAT got be permanently banned from the chat. But now, kids are able to describe their private parts and tell each other to have sexual interactions but they do not even get a week long ban from the chat.

I still remember when the AI first got out. It really struggled with my language and you just couldn't avoid getting 3-day chat ban every now and then even if you never said anything against the rules. Contacting customer support didn't help, because they more often responded after the ban was already over. After many chatbans (lost count lol) I eventually got banned from the entire game for a week. This time customer support did respond pretty quickly but all they really said "well that sucks" and believed my ban was deserved. Didn't give me any proof or examples of what I might've said to deserve my ban.

I agree with you on this. The problem with the chat is that some people use it to get in contact with others to either become friends or to use them as victims. And some of them are using explicit language on purpose, to fish for victims who are either gullible or willing to be used. The moderators rather sits on their asses doing nothing to stop this, or stops the honest, good people from helping each other with different quests by blocking the chat from users to mention KZbin channels, X or other social media, or even names of channels. It is so frustrating when all you want to do is to help them. It is so dumb.

As a hungarian player, our previous moderators terrorised the players, randomly ban them and other stuff, also they were 20+ yo, I personally dont want moderators in the game, I want a better chat filter, or NO CHAT at all, for example its still a game for children, why do they need to talk in game? Play the game and thats it. Or maybe get a new rule in the game, if you are not 14 yo you simply cant use the chat.

Honestly the issue is more that the supervisors weren't keeping the moderators in check. I think instead of volunteers for moderators. They need to make it a job spot and you get hired after passing several checks as well as only hiring experienced people with credentials. Of course there might be someone who will abuse their power. But generally someone whose doing a job, is paid for it, and isn't affiliated with the game on a personal level, will be better at moderating, than if it was some random 20 yo or 14 yo that volunteered 😭

while the new chat filter can be annoying when you’re sharing something completely normal and sane, 1) id do anything to have phil return, at least you knew what words were bad and you could easily say "hey that’s really not cool" and it could be sent to sso and they’d pick up what the bad ppl were laying down without explanation, instead of the bad ppl trying to say anything and everything before they finally bypass the filter like we have now 2) im glad they changed mail. in mail you could send numbers, bad words, whole email addresses and full passwords etc. literally NOTHING was censored in mail. idk (i’m still finishing the video) but the new filter for chat is ridiculous but mail has been updated nicely. i feel like AI doesn’t do enough, no matter what exactly you tell it.

Had some people doing the exact same thing a few days ago; threatening to rape me and telling me to kill myself and saying the n word over and over. Reported each and every one of them and still haven't gotten ANYTHING back. Literally not a word. Im gonna continue messaging SSO about it until they're banned. I clicked on this video because of the names I saw in the cover, and as it turns out, I was right and it was the exact same people from the other day, and despite the fact they said they had just started SSO that day, apparently have been doing this for a while, so Im glad I reported them even though they were supposed "burner" accounts. Absolutely revolting, it disgusted me the shit that they said. Thank you for making this video and showing their names, they deserve to be banned from the game.

As a German growing up with star stable. I can only confirm what has been shown. I remember always seeing people writing about "breeding role plays" and the clubs were surely very sexual as well. Me and one friend even had an experience being groomed from one of our clubmates who also often referenced sexual content, tried to show us porn, once asked us (12-14 yo) what underwear we're wearing or pressured us into sending bra pics. Even tho it was still a great time (really, the community in the club was very nice), my friend also got a lot of trauma from that. And I wasn't even that stupid. But you can't underestimate the peer pressure that's also happening there. Sometimes I still go on star stable and it's still the same, if not even worse. Keep an eye out for your kids, this is very dangerous also considering that I wanted to meet that person (groomer) in real life and never told my parents about the weird shit they said.

I reported a cheater once and then they sent me an E-Mail stating I shouldnt cheat and why and what counts as cheating and I was just sitting there dumbfounded like: You dont have to tell ME? TBh I think the best solution is to just hire actual adult chat moderators, people who essentially live on online would likely be the best option not only cus it'd make there job easier but, the more time you spend online the more time you have to get familiar with internet lexicons. I am sorry but going off of sso's social media team there very out of touch with what the age group is in to and what type of languages they use so whatever AI or chat filter there using its quite useless since sso doesn't even understand what type of lexicon we use thees days. I know sso likely wont hire people to do this cus...they are well pretty wounded right now like they are begging us to stay logged in for more than 40 mins. I think for parents who are worried about there kids saftey on sso what they need to do is email sso and ask for the chat to be shut off you can do this and sso will turn it off so your child wont be able to read or talk to anyone at all. the chat is removed entirely.

@@GoldenFieldsSchleich That was partly becasue sso didn't pay any attention to what the chat moderators where doing they just let them sorta run amok. And they had no management teams. SSO did not try very hard either to enforce the fact that chat moderation is a JOB, sso did not do a good enough job telling thees people that what there doing is a job and that's it. You need that in order to let the system work right. which sso failed to do. AS for removing a public chat I actually disagree with that, if sso only had private chats the grooming behaviors would be much worse becasue no one could be reporting on it and it isolates victims further. If its in a public chat yeah its gross to read but you can report the player and call them out for it, so bad behavior dose not become normalized where as in a private chat it would becasue its only two people.

the chat moderators were no joke when it came to abusing power. My account had gotten banned for an ENTIRE YEAR because I said the word “Poof” in chat one time. Sso refused to listen to me when I explained how ridiculous the situation was, and they let me wait out the entire year ban. I could not log on for a YEAR. Stacy Place “couldn’t do anything about it” but I called BS. They did not care.

It's so disappointing to see how easy people can get away with nasty things honestly. Had a fight in global chat with someone once because they invited an 11 year old to a 'spicy roleplay' and they said it was fine because the child consented to it. They didn't even have to do anything complicated to get to that either, just advertised their roleplay, got a child in it and thought that was completely fine :/

I’m an adult player on the Fire Star server (yes, THAT Fire Star 😅) - it’s a daily occurrence that people in chat will say the most disgusting, vulgar things, call others horrible names, joke about being PDFs and “diddling” kids, and share extremely homophobic and religious views. And that doesn’t even go into the sheer amount of drama between players! Yet we can’t even say other players names or coordinates (or even placings for player-run shows) half the time. The mobile game doesn’t even have an in-game report button like desktop now does, and on mobile you can’t even ignore a player saying the most vile things unless they’re right in front of you (because you can’t click on player names to add a friend, report, or ignore in chat of course!) But at least in this update they’ve redone the chat box so it looks nicer and added an incredibly vague list of rules that no one will pay attention to so it’s ok 🤷‍♀️ I’ve had a bloody guts full of the SSO team lately - after the Equestrian Festival update in April, the special gait on ALL my gaited horses doesn’t work. I’ve sent tens of emails about this to the team (literally since the first week of April!) and all I’ve gotten in response are automated messages asking me if I’ve tried “restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, or checking for updates in the App Store”. STILL nothing has been done and it’s been 2 months now. Not to mention the absolute sh$tshow when they broke global chat to be almost totally unusable right before Camp Western started, then didn’t even bother to fix it until 2 weeks later when CW started. But hey, we’ve got an updated Fort Pinta disco and new dance moves so all is well in the world 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

back when i played star stable people were asking for "roam" roleplay ALL THE TIME. At first i thought it was like.. adventure roleplay, like roaming and wandering, but i finally got another player to inform me this was in fact ROMANCE Rp and they even admitted its usually 18+ content ( a common advertisement would be "Seeking roam w/breeding" ect ). And again, this was CONSTANTLY asked for in chats. it was the #1 thing i'd see, as a user who very rarely engaged in chat and was usually just passing through and snooping chat as i went. Roam is not inherantly a bad word, but this is a great example why human moderators are needed.. a human will know the cultures and subcultures of their own community and SSO makes more than enough money to hire at least a few moderators that could be "moderator managers" who could then hire volunteers paid by way of some in game function or w/e. The AI despite how it advertises will never be good enough because the humans, even the very young humans sometimes found on this game, will always find ways to get around it It's crazy seeing that sort of thing in chat considering I would get censored almost every message i sent due to apparently saying some thing or another that the censor didn't like. Usually numbers. You aren't allowed to say numbers on SSO lol

Very late to this video, but I can confirm that the Swedish servers did get the report button a while after the Australian servers. It was about as useful as the online support though and rarely did anything. I don't play the game anymore, (and when I do, I don't bother with the chat unless I see specific people online) so I can't say how well it works nowadays

Star Stable has straight up traumatised me. I‘ll never get over it to be honest. There are people on the German servers that seriously should get locked up somewhere and every time I remember these people are walking around in public, I get sick to my stomach. There is a girl running a rp club, who has multiple online personalities (I know of like 5). She has 5+ star stable and discord accounts and she is threatening to kill others and so on. It is disgusting what she’s doing there especially with her spicy rps that she’s trying to hide from the public. She luckily got called out on reddit. But guess what, she disbanded the club for 2 weeks and continued to do the same things over and over again. After I stopped playing for now I realised what damage those people have done to me and I don’t know if I should call them out on reddit because what they did was sick and they continue to do this.

Noticed a rule since this week's update saying 'no talk of cheating of any kind' and that made me raise a brow because like, does that mean we also cannot point out when people are blatantly cheating? Because championships are STILL broken and in my server one club will kind of 'soft cheat' as I've dubbed it by doing EVERY. SINGLE. CHAMPIONSHIP from morning to late into the night especially during events. They will win every single one because it's always 3 or more people, super high lever, level 15 horses. I'm a veteran myself, I should be on their level and in a sense I am so what's my point exactly? WELL when I race these users with the same player level, same gear-based stats, same horse level, same shortcuts even and somehow they still zoom ahead freakishly fast. That...cannot be fair, right? Yes, I reported it, did anything happen? Nope. Instead of other users rolling their eyes at seeming the same three people day in day out they idolize these players and I cannot fathom it. So what? I can't call out these players anymore now? I can't call attention to other players what's wrong with this gameplay? I'll get banned if I do it?

Everything got much worse in about 2020. And then by winter 2022 it was completely out of control. The chat system takes forever to learn and so exploits will work for weeks like saying grass over and over. And much smaller games run so much better. For example Horse Academy. Almost never will you see inappropriate language and if you do that person will be kicked within a few minutes.

I was about to write a comment about how I was impressed that I couldn't find anything wrong inside the South American servers, but as soon as I scrolled a little bit further I just managed to find players mocking the trans community. The most ironic thing about this is that they put in the effort to make a new Fort Pinta Disco that nobody asked for, AND EVEN CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE CHAT, but not their ridiculous filter. I've seen people use transphobic, homophobic, racist, sexual language but you can't use a lot of numbers between 52-999 for whatever reason or people's usernames. The new chat system is worse than before. They gave us a new, worse, chat system but refuse to fix game breaking bugs.
