i just realized from your days of the week video that 月 also means moon, and 日 also means sun. it makes so much sense because a moon cycle takes about a month, and the sun coming up is a new day. idk why, but i think thats really cool

Hi Yuko Sensei. Thanks for the great videos. I have a question. What is the difference between げつ and がつ?
@YukoSensei
@YukoSensei 4 жыл бұрын
The kanji 月 has three different readings (pronunciation) depending on the context as below. 月(つき)= moon 月(げつ)as in Monday 月曜日(げつようび) 月(げつ)as a counter for months. 3か月(さんかげつ)= three months 月(がつ)as the name of each month. 3月(さんがつ)= the 3rd month = March I hope this helps!

that would be 十時四十三分です or jū ji yom san būn desu. sorry for the late answer but i can explain the time thing if you like. if you know the numbers it is very simple. 時 is the kanji for time. if you are referring to full hours, just add 時 (ji) next to the number. for example: 一時 - one o’ clock 二時 - two o’ clock 三時 - three o’ clock and so on. (note: 七時 is read as shichi ji and not nana ji since nana ji sounds odd and native speakers don’t use it much) similarly, the kanji 半 (han) means half. if you’re referring to half hours, this is what it would be like: 一時半 - 1:30 二時半 - 2:30 三時半 - 3:30 and so on to answer your question, 分 (būn) is a kanji used for minutes and it is used to state the exact time for example: 一時一分 - 1:01 二時二分 - 2:02 三時三分 - 3:03 and so on note: AM is 午前 (gozen) and PM is 午後 (gogo) as you have noticed, they all follow a pattern and you don’t have to memorize new words as long as you know the japanese number system. however there is an exception: 午前零時 (gozen rei ji) which means 12:00 am, midnight. the kanji 零 (rei) is used for zero and the literal translation of 午前零時 is “00:00 am”. however, 午前十二時一分 (12:01 am) onwards it goes on normally so it is not as complicated as sounds right now. i know i answered really late but i hope it helped :)))

Yuko sensei, Thanks for your lesson. One question: Can we interchange the position of month and date in the sentences?
@indigofenrir7236
@indigofenrir7236 4 жыл бұрын
You can't. Japanese date goes YYYY/MM/DD. It is not as flexible as English where we can say "the sixth (day) of May" or "May 6" or "May 6th".

(Just a beginner myself) to negate a verb you have to change the ending of it. In polite form you use -ません (-masen) as in 食べません (ta•be•ma•se•n) or 見ません (mi•ma•se•n) instead of -ます (-masu). In neutral you use the ending -ない (-nai) as in 食べない (ta•be•na•i). Hope this kinda helps. How you change the base form of the verb depends on the type of verb.

Is that a mistake, that the title of the video say «getsu» for the months?
@indigofenrir7236
@indigofenrir7236 4 жыл бұрын
月 is read as "getsu", "gatsu", or "tsuki". Unless it follows a number to specify a month, "getsu" on its own is correct, as it can mean month or moon.
