Sorry if I sound silly but I never understood much of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG - aren't the rules very fundamentally different in this game? Like how you always draw to a hand of five at the beginning of a turn, or that the difference of ATT/DEF isn't subtracted from the LP? Can someone clear the dust for me a little, please?
@XRedlionx
@XRedlionx 11 ай бұрын
This game was made before the rules were clearly set, this game and the sequel are mostly base on the 1st season on the anime, were fields afected monsters and sex in cards was a thing. Remember the anime/manga came first then the card game in japan, when we got yugioh here in america they almost came together so there is some disconnection for us.

The important rule differences are that there's no monster effects or Extra Deck, you can only place one card on the board per turn, you fuse monsters by selecting them after each other to create the weakest result that's stronger than its components, you can apply equips in the same turn if they're selected after a viable target, and you refill your hand to five each turn. The speedrun's gameplan is to fuse into decent beaters with similar components like Queen of Autumn Leaves, Nekogal #2, or Black Dragon Jungle King, phase those out for Dragons and Thunders to make Thunder Dragon and fuse that with another of either to make Twin-Headed, then pray for big, solo beaters like Meteor Black Dragon or Zoa, load them and Twin-Headed with versatile equips like Bright Castle and Megamorph, and run over Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragons and Gate Guardians during Final 7.

Can someone explain some of the strategies to me? i know of twin headed, pegasus' broken equip cards and meteor b. dragon, but why are perfectly good cards like raigeki often just booted from the hand, why is umi listed with the other important cards on the bottom left, when it was never used and often discarded like raigeki, and why is that spikeball so important, that even after already having 5 of them a code is used to get a sixth?
@punch1t
@punch1t 11 ай бұрын
ok i think i can explain it even tho i dont speedrun it: Raigeki is often times just a waste of space in the hand. So it gets booted while mountains/umi stays since you can (at least with the mages) force them to waste a turn to change the field back to their fav one. Spikeball in this case is just there as a placeholder for all thunder cards, the reason he got another spikeball was so his deck is more consistent with summoning twin headed. The placeholder cards are: Baby Dragon for dragons under 1600 Attack since you need one more dragon/thunder to combine it into twin, the other dragon is a placeholder for 1600+ dragons so you only need one thunder. Umi is interchangable with Mountains but its more favourable since it doesnt boost dragons, just thunder monsters. Given that Ultimate Blue Eyes and Meteor B are in the endgame fights, you dont wanna boost them if you are forced to play a field spell.
@alfarg101
@alfarg101 11 ай бұрын
So Umi is a really useful card but it is somewhat situational and it just so happened there were no situations where I really needed it this run. The spikeball in the bottom left is actually just used to show how many thunders I have rather than how many of that specific card I have. Same goes for Baby Dragon in the top left and Crawling Dragon #2 below it, these show how many Dragons under 1600 attack and Dragons that have have 1600 attack or more respectively. Generally thunders are a bit rarer than dragons so you'll generally see runners password in 1 or 2 thunders to help make twin headed more consistently which plays a big part in how fast you can get through duels. Dumping Raigeki takes a bit of explanation. Basically the main thing I'm trying to do is get a 3-turn duel, that's generally the fastest you can win a duel in this game. I may be also trying to get a B rank which pretty much means I need to have 27 or fewer cards in my deck (A couple of other conditions as well but they're not really relevant). So for example during my duel with mage soldier (at 32:10) I'm going for B rank since he drops Dark Energy on that rank. So turn 1 I draw a pretty poor hand, best thing I can do is dump everything and fuse into my strongest monster B. Dragon Jungle King. Turn 2 I draw twin headed and Raigeki, obviously I'm going to fuse twin headed. So I attack with my weaker monster (2100 attack) first to clear his defence monster then I attack with twin headed to do 2800 LP damage taking his LP to 5200. If I'd have kept Raigeki I could have used it on turn 3 to clear his board and attack with both of my monsters but I only have 4900 damage combined so would have to wait an extra turn. So I dump Raigeki to be able to hopefully draw something with 2400 or more attack which I do so I'm able to win the duel quicker than if I had used Raigeki. It can be worth holding it against stronger opponents but I know there's nothing Mage Soldier can do to beat a twin headed. On Isis at 27:05 it's a similar situation but that's actually just a misplay lol

Sorry to see your World Record go, It's a shame. However, I think you and everyone in the community need to get together and look into the new 'World Record', as it looks very suspicious to me. The speedrunner was visible, talkative and laughing at the start. He was making decisions at the start that even I know not to make that cost him time. Even though he was ahead of his PB the run didn't look like anything special. Then when he beat Pegasus/faced Isis in the World tournament things got really weird. The visual of him disappeared, went black and then was replaced with a picture of a Meteor B. Dragon. A strange glitch I've NEVER seen before. He also went from being talkative to dead silent. He defeated Pegasus and won THREE Megamorphs. From then on he seemed to get abnormally high luck, always winning the cards you'd want to win or that he needed (like thunders near the end). Secondly, he got Zoa from Martis which represents a 0.59% chance and the absolute lowest out of the 8 characters in the game that drop it, and would get perfect combos against the exact opponent you'd need them against later. Too good to be true. He never had a lot of Dragons but always seemed to draw them (especially Lv 2's) to make THTD, if he didn't he would always draw Zoa (despite having 1) or Skull Knight AND the correct equip to go with it AND the second equip Megamorph and put the monster in Mercury, so even if Seto 3/Nightmare drew Blue Eyes Ultimate, they couldn't beat it. He always drew Raigeki when he needed it too for fast deuls. The luck he got from the low/high Mages all the way throughout the final 7 was insane. Once he beat the game in record time the glitched display suddenly corrected itself and he reappeared so we could see his reaction, which was fake, forced and too casual. Not natural like when you legitimately broke the world record. The abnormally high luck that he got and all the bizarre occurrences in the video are strong indications of cheating and lead me to believe the run was manipulated. The new Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories Any% (15 card) speedrun 'World Record' NEEDS TO BE RE-EXAMINED!

Also, in many situations it's good to not get the guardian star buff, because you save time from the buff animation when attacking. So if you don't need the extra 500 attack to win faster, which was the case, it's beneficial to skip the buff.

hallo dude, do you know why my fast text mashing doesnt work, i hold square and mash x but it doesnt work, i lose solid 30, 35 seconds just at the beginning, i use duckstation and the 15 card mod from exarions description, i have a very good pc and i use livesplit as timer

Difficult to say without seeing whats going on. First thing though is I'm playing on PS2 with Fast Disc Speed (FDS). Compared to emulators PS2 with FDS will have faster load times, this is pretty much true with all PS1 games unfortunately. Still even with that losing 30 seconds is pretty extreme, what are you including as the beginning? Up to Heishin?
@alfarg101
@alfarg101 10 ай бұрын
 @grafmontefausto4620 So a few things: 1. DrWurstPeter misses the 'loadskip' on the world map segments initially. If you take a look at roughly 40 seconds in to my run you can see that I'm moving the cursor from the Palace to the Card Shop while the world map overview is loading in. If you can do this quickly enough and enter the Card Shop before the world map loads in you can skip the load animation. Saves roughly 2 to 2.5 seconds each time and he doesn't hit it either time so 4 seconds there 2. He just simply takes more time to look at his deck than I do. I count 11 seconds form hitting 'Build Deck' to backing out on his end compared to about 5 seconds from me. Even counting longer load times this would still probably be a good 5 seconds saved here from his run 3. It's not a big thing just one time but it comes up a lot during the run. On the Card Shop menu I'm holding down on the d-pad before the menu pops up. What this does is it allows me to scroll down to 'Leave Shop' a bit faster than he does. As I said this is maybe a second quicker but this also comes up a lot in World Tournament so it adds up over time If you take a look at his most recent run, the 1:21:35 one, you'll see he's implemented all of this and enters the heishin fight much quicker So all in all that's about 10 seconds right there, not to say there was nothing else. As for mashing speed, it doesn't matter too much overall but I find it's much more rhythm based than mashing x as fast as possible I cant really give you many pointers there though but you'll get the hang of it the more you play. If you're interested in learning more I'd recommend joining our discord if you haven't already: discord.gg/ygofm Lots of helpful people and resources in there

U can win in 2 ways in the gamee: With a POW -> which means u kill ur opponent as fast as possible without using much cards. Or for a TECH-Win: For that u need to use a lot of cards, get dmg, attack monsters in attack positions etc. A few cards, including megamorph only drop if u win with an A or S-Tech win.
