There is something so sad but remarkable about this opening. The music, the visuals. GX is by far my favorite of the yugioh series because Jaden is, imo, the best protagonist. He goes from this happy go lucky care free person to one hardened by life's experiences. Reminds me of entering highschool vs ending it.

I liked him a lot more than most protagonists, Yusaku is now my favourite. But I had the opposite experience, middle school were the worst years of my life and then highschool were pretty damn good. A lot happier in highschool. His character definitely changes more and has a better well of emotional depth than someone like Yusei or Yuma.

Fun fact: the three Phantom Demons (the original, real name of the Sacred Beasts), are named after figures in Judeo-Christian mythology: Uria, Lord of Divine Flame (named as such due to the Hebrew term Uriah meaning "flame of God") is named after multiple figures in the Hebrew Bible. Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder is named after Haman from the Book of Esther. Raviel, Lord of Phantasmal Demons is named after the angel Raziel of Jewish Kabbalah.

Reason I hate Yu-Gi-Oh is that it's toned down in the version I can understand. The original names and concepts are actually awesome. In fact, most of the naming conventions make no sense even as censorship, like changing Antique Gear to Ancient Gear. What's the point of that?!

NeoDragonCount when it comes to names like those the point is probably that there is no point. Antique and Ancient mean pretty much (scratch that, exactly) the same thing. The point is that they thought ancient sounded cooler and thats about it.

One thing I love about this opening his how they do their best with GX's infamously low budget. Instead of blowing money at the beginning by animating the sacred beasts, they just used still images and flashing lights to create a creepy image. Very creative!

This arc was weird and the series was finding its footing, but Judai fighting the Phantasms was awesome. Shining Flare Wingman was meant to be Judai's Black Magician, but then Neos was made and that was that. I miss the old Elemental Hero deck.

Regular Flame Wingman was, really. It's his favourite and his signature guy early on. But it's not a good fit for an ace just because of how demanding it is to write it into a duel. Dark Magician is high level, but you only need to draw it, the writers can come up with any number of ways to cheat it out. Flame Wingman has to be summoned with the exact same three card combo every time. It risks getting boring, it forces two thirds of Jaden's hand to be weak normal monsters and removes one of his copies of polymerization as an available resource.

It is easy to say that with at least 3 openings featuring Chronos and his monsters in the 1st two is enough to indicate that he is this series' main rival. Manjoume may seem to be the main rival but he is more of a consistent rival and not a proper one. Consistent rival and main rivals differ as one fights the protagonists a lot and the latter having Kaiba's og traits, looks, and monsters. Ryo on the other hand is a supporting character and does not have a form of a rivalry aside his brother. Edo I feel like in Opening 2 should do a lot better with Judai in their rival dynamic scenes compared to Chronos. If you are with me, then all I can say is that Judai's rival is no doubt Chronos as most of Chronos' traits are passed down to Jack, Kaito, Reiji, and Ryoken being antagonist/rivals to allies.

***** that was a major problem with GX. judai was a huge spotlight-stealing squad. it got the point where misawa (one of my favorite characters in GX) got demoted to extra and Ryo was forced to lose to camula b/c he forgot to attack w/his 3 cyber dragons and FTK (first turn kill) her (it's even worse when you remember him doing exactly that to sho as hell kaiser)

227someguy It wasn't just because Judai was the spotlight, GX just had so many characters the writers had no idea how to properly handle them all except Judai because he's the main guy. So while Judai got phenomenal development over the series, everyone else was left on the back burner and slowly lost relevancy (some faster than others like Misawa who was just forgotten about completely for a bit by even the characters themselves) until the only one doing anything was Judai. It is probably the main flaw with GX, which is why I think the reason why Asuka is coming back in Arc-V for the Xyz dimension is because they realize a lot of characters in GX got the short end of the stick, with Asuka being one of the most shafted characters and they want to try again to actually write her well

+Lennyohh Manjoume and Shou got pretty good character development, Manjoume learned that every card even supposedly weak ones were useful, and Shou who was always shy and insecure became confident and bold by the end.
