nightingale isn't the problem. It's starving venom. And it doesn't need to be banned, merely limited and, if we're lucky, given an erratum. The major point of this combo is the 2 venoms. get rid of that, and your opponent at least has a chance for a comeback. Especially if the pend magicians went second.

Another option would be to hit Nightingale with D.D. Crow. Not only do they lose the ability to copy it with Starving Venom, but since they probably only run 1 copy, they're locked out of the combo for the rest of the duel.

I mean, they'd still have the one Starving Venom on board that copied the effect from the field, since they're most likely going to copy the effect on the field first, then use the second to go from grave. In the event of a first-turn setup, they would probably have some way around it, maybe make a slightly different board to set up for a swift victory next turn. If they went second though and manage to pull off the first starve venom, that could be a problem, because that's a 6800 piercer that can deal 4k burn damage, and is also unaffected by card effects.

Anyone saying no in here is super silly. It's not guaranteed, but if this FTK becomes dominant and tops a lot, then it's possible. E-lists are not planned to happen, so the whole "no sooner than April" doesn't matter if an emergency pops up. That said, it's not guaranteed either.

You can ash the 0 gate (when it tries to add instant fusion), this will only delay it for one turn, as it is not a cost to destroy for gate 0. This will still get you into you next turn, and at that point they will have already committed to their pendulum summon, so they might not have the resources to make the vortex negate or a scary board like normal magicians

Just a regular scrub checking in with an honest question: Why is instant fusion not banned? As far as I can remember anything that summons fusion monsters with relatively low or inconsequential cost has always been banned. Metamorphosis, Magical Scientist, etc are still banned to this day so why is instant fusion still legal and at 3 no less?

I think the thing with Instant Fusion is the level restriction (5 and below) and the fact it destroys the card at the end of the turn, doesn't let it attack, and it has a hard Once Per Turn. A lot of the 'fusion monsters with little to no effort' cards on the banlist don't really have any of the above listed in their effects. Instant Fusion isn't really the problem here, the problem is Nightingale. Nightingale has always been an FTK enabler and always finds its way into degenerate shit due to its effect.

At my locals, the setup I've seen is Decode Talker linked to Vortex Dragon and some other monster that negates, so at least two negates, three if the effect targets. I did stop Gate Zero with Semn Judgement, had Deskbots 003 and 004 ready to attack on my next turn. He got stumped by 004, the VR Trooper. Yeah. It is not just Pendulum Magicians. I stopped playing when XYZ came out and now I am back. Back in the day in Played an OTK/FTK aswell (demise otk). It was Fun to Destroy some players with it, but after a while you realise its not fun playing those decks. Now I play Gravekeeper like 12 years ago and dark World like 10 Years ago. Its not competetive but for me It is fun. I miss the times where the game didnt rely on Special summons so much and you actually play the game and not wait for a guy to finish their turn after 10 Minutes of doing 100 Combos. Yeah I am butthurt a bit and maybe too Nostalgic....

Are you sure Starving Venom can copy the other's effect? It says, "...that monsters 'original' effect", the effect it of Nightingale it copied is not it's original effect?

The original effect of Nightingale is everything in its text box. Due to this, Starving Venom copies Nightingale's full effect. This means that: ~Starving Venom gets a 4000 attack boost (500 x its level, which is 8) ~Starving Venom becomes unaffected by other card effects ~Starving Venom can deal 4000 burn damage (500 x its level, again) So what the above basically translates to is Starving Venom becomes a 6800 Apoqliphort Towers that can burn for 4000 damage. An added bonus is that Starving Venom also gives itself piercing, due to its own effect that gets tacked on at the end of its copying bullshit. And since Starving Venom's copy effect isn't a hard Once Per Turn, if you get a second one out, the second one can copy Nightingale, allowing for the OTK/FTK to happen. IMO, Nightingale should've never been printed.

Douglas Monteiro designator is a quickplay spell. How are you going to stop an FTK going second? If anything, designator helps the ftk by stopping the veiler.

No, quick play spells may be set like a trap or used from the hand during any phase of your turn. It has to have been set for one turn to use it during your opponent's turn unless you have a card like Ebon High Magician

It could, but it's not a good counter because it's no use if you're going second. The whole point of ftks is to go first and beat your opponent before they can do anything. Hand traps are the only option I'm afraid.
