My dad bought me a box of this set when I was a kid, a pricing mistake meant he got it for the price of just a single pack, It was like Christmas opening it up.. good times

This is my favorite set. The theme, the gravekeepers, the artwork on the books, the interesting card effects, and even the commons/uncommons were playable to some degree.

One of my favourite sets because of the Egyptian theme and dark artworks. I mean, look at Nightmare Wheel - that just wouldn't be printed in today's game when it's all about waifus and anime-styled archetypes. Also worth mentioning that Barrel Behind the Door was censored; the OCG art has a real revolver instead of a Egyptian-looking gun.

I have good memories of this set. My parents bought me a few packs in a supermarket we used to go to. I loved this set because many of the commons were arguably better than the foils. I ran Gravekeeper’s Spies for many years after this came out, they had almost become my signature even in my early Monarch Deck
@martief1st4 жыл бұрын
This was the last set I played when I was a kid. I remember I bought like 8 boosters and my deck became 75% PG. won several tournaments with my “sneaky, stalling deck”. I stopped playing because the sets were coming out too fast for a 13 year old mowing lawns to keep up.

Reckless greed was pretty interesting. especially when activating 2 or 3 on the same turn, and drawing 4-6 cards, but only having to skip 2 draw phases due to the cost not stacking. I remember playing a tomato-ratbox deck and running spirit reapers, Exiled Force, Mystic swordsman lv.2, Injection fairy lily, Newdoria, Book of moon, Creature Swap and . I also remember pulling lava golem out of my first few packs of Pharaonic Guardian.

Great video man, and no hate but im kinda disappointed you didn't talk about Necrovalley more. That card really emphasizes the idea that this set was ahead of its time. To this day I feel like a one of Necrovalley in any deck isn't bad. The graveyard has evolved (in most decks) to be an extension of your hand and deck, Necrovalley shuts that down hard. In Gravekeeper its amazing, and outside of it, it's just a solid all around card. It's one of the only field spells from this era of the game that is still relevant in 2020 yugioh
@flowsarrj14184 жыл бұрын

It’s still trash though. Unless you’re going on for game, that’s not a great effect. It’s very situational. And if your opponent doesn’t have backrow and you reasoning into byser you’re gonna be pissed 😂

I remember Pharaonic Guardian being the only set I ever bothered to complete. I just loved the heavy Egyptian theme. One thing YuGiOh should have borrowed from Magic the Gathering was the use of keywords. When a Magic card says, "Flying, Flash, Prowess" I know exactly what it does, I don't have to read a library of text to understand it. Maybe if YuGiOh had done something like this, it would have kept more players around.
@bananajoe694204 жыл бұрын
well new players looking at 50 keywords isnt that fun. but on the other side...what new players lol so you are probably right
@banditkeithkingofduelmonsters4 жыл бұрын
@@bananajoe69420 The standard format never has 50+ keywords at a time. A new player may have to memorize 10 keywords at most if they are playing standard when they start playing which is most likely.
@TheOldSchoolExpert4 жыл бұрын
They started to do that a few years ago. GY means graveyard. Piercing means when the attack is higher than the defense of the opposing monster, etc. They have made many changes to shorten text

@XxHeathenbloodxX4 жыл бұрын
Christian Castro I agree, but I actually really liked the synchro era. That’s when I got back into the game in middle school and high school. Didn’t mind xyz either. Pendulums is when I lost interest in Modern yugioh for the most part. I come and go depends on the format or if a deck catches my eye that looks fun. But usually I stick to legacy formats. Mostly goat because it’s the easiest to find people to play with.

Another thing that killed the game was yugioh making uncommon versions of foil/rare cards. I remember I finally got Vampire Lord secret rare from a pack during a tournament. Almost everyone wanted it from me and tried trading anything for it. Even the card store wanted to buy it from me!! I ended up keeping it since it was my most epic pull ever! Fast forward a couple months and the uncommon version of vampire lord was everywhere and it infuriated me. I stopped buying packs and mostly stopped playing the game because of that.

I was hoping you would talk a little bit about Kabazauls. For those that don't know, Kabazauls is a lv4 normal monster with 1700 atk. Not a remarkable card by any means even back in 2003, but for a while it was the 2nd best level 4 normal dinosaur monster (after Sabersaurus) making it an instant inclusion in dino-rabbit decks, which completely dominated the meta back in late 2011-mid 2012. Definitely a card that was ahead of its time.
