if you guys didn't know, cross dressing is very common in Chinese opera, men would play both male and female roles and vice versa. that's why its normal to see guys sing in such a high pitch in Chinese opera.

Yeah, but I think only some men are chosen to sing as female roles, and usually they would stick to female roles for their career. Opera troups, idk now, but in the past usually had only men or only women.

Back when face to face learning was still a thing our chinese teachers would have us perform chinese operas We got taught some tricks on how to make our voice higher but nah I cant with this guy He just built different Mad respect cuz i tried to sing it aswell but nope my voice just kept on cracking like a broken record T-T

It’s harder if you don’t already have a natural high voice as a male cause Chinese opera needs a lot of training for the male vocals.

Typically, if you go down the chinese oprea route, you'd have to train whilst you are younger so it makes sense why it would be hard to be on par with this guy due to the time and preparation he's probably gone through. It's also very normal for men to play female roles in the olden days and they just more some what recently had women join the scene of this type of opera :)

I think what really impressed me was how he managed to switch between the two voices at that speed, albeit at the beginning of every change there was a bit of unstableness I think (might just be my hearing) but its still really impressive nonetheless. It's not something your average person can do. Edit 1: Listening to this cover again, I just realised how smooth 2:01 - 2:02 sounds, that is not something your average person can pull off. It may sound easy, but I dont think just any untrained person can pull it off as smooth as he did it.

Males acting all female parts was common in alot of countries. Main reason was the social stigma surrounding females working with men. And also the possibility of the female catching the eye of some wealthy or noble. That said guy is good. love the change in tone bringing a new flavour to the Opera piece.
