YUCATAN The Culture Is Nature, The Culture Is Maya

To the rhythm of mariachis and traditional dancing, the film by Pierre Brouwers guides you across Yucatan, this Mexican state that juts out into the Caribbean sea. From the white sandy beaches of the Maya river to huge green expanses where the sites of Calakmul or Coba barely emerge from the forest, the cameras take you to not only the most prestigious Maya sites, but also other lesser known locations that from an archaeological perspective are just as interesting. Spectacular caves and rocks, mangroves and nature reserves form the décor in which one of America’s most fascinating civilizations developed and flourished. -

I lived in Mérida Yucatan for 8 years and you made me miss it so much! Good job! Such an amazing area. Magical and the gifts I got from my time there are immense but it's soooo hot..I couldn't stand the heat anymore. A big piece of my heart always lives there! Thanks for the visit!

The filming itself is great, it's just the volume of the soundtrack, & the narration being somewhat drowned out that detracts from it but otherwise a top doco. Love the Mayan drumming ☀💀🌶

I agree. I so much want to hear what is being said but at times, I cannot. There aren't even subtitles to help. alas. I understand it'd be difficult to redo the sound for the video but, if they would enable subtitles that would help immensely.

True Maya don't have Mariachi. Mariachi is mostly from the west side of Mexico which are Aztec with Spanish Influence. Looks like the Mayan culture is being overlapped by the Aztec/Mexican. It looks like a bunch of bullshit just for entertainment, tourism, and resort. All arteficial.

The documentary jumps from topic to topic without fully explaining the concepts like a 100 facts "Did you know" video. The music is too loud compared to the narrator as it masks up what is being spoken. There is also no CC to read. At 12:50, two people are talking over each other making it even harder to comprehend what is being said.

Crazy comment on the pyramids that the Egyptians (3.000 years earlier!) had "technical means" the Mayas did not have. What was that?
@TheAtheistRealist
@TheAtheistRealist 6 жыл бұрын
Copper chisels are one big difference - the Maya did not have metal tools but used stone to chisel out limestone blocks and used obsidian shard tools to do the fine carving. Also, in Egypt the vast amount of sand meant that various methods of pushing large blocks or obelisks on the sand and then digging the and away from underneath could be used to manipulate huge pieces of stone. Imagine a long stone block lying on the sand - if you dig the sand away at one end you could end up with the block standing on end without actually lifting it... One more thing is that the Maya had no units of measurement at all!! They did everything by using rope, look it up it's fascinating.

is that comment any worse than the Maya feared death, which is a total miss interpretation , if they fear death explain day of the dead, this was a Mayan tradition , no native race of the americas as such feared death , they feared bad spirits yes but that is not the same thing , i think when people talk about Mexico and Mexicans they often lie, like that orange thing usa as for a leader , he went to far though , Mexico is way pissed at him and their trade is in serious trouble , and now with the fruit rotting in their fields and Mexico refusing usa imports tramp is heading usa into a crisis of fruit and veg shortage and prices will fly up, best get planting people , seriously , i am proud of my ancestral races , Maya is one of them

I'm number 17 on the thumbs down icon. When the sound mixer dummies turn up the background "music" to be louder than, or as loud as the narrator, I don't stick around for that noise pollution. Welcome Pierre Brouwers et al. to the Mickey Mouse Club Awards for amateurish videos. Maybe being brought up on Beach Blanket Bingo and Elvis Presley movies wasn't such a good thing.

This was the beginning of the creation of all of America. Of where Amerigo the explore visited and never thought of changing it or hurting the native people Amerigo never wanted any credit for it, until one of his good friends that drew the map of the world placed his great friends name on the map because Amerigo was the explore responsable of knowing about mapping all the lands since Amerigo did not know what that part of the land was named his friend placed Amerigos name smack in the middle of the map of the Unknown land which we call America today. That is why all this land from Canada, North, Central, and South is the Contanant of America it's not only North America it's way huge.There were RUMORS Columbus set foot in our American Contenant little did we know he never set foot here, he just claimed to say he did, while his goal was to reach India the land of sparkly shinny buildings full of jewlery and silk Colorful clothing he never reached it. Columbus did began calling the natives living around the lands Indians, the man had no idea what he was doing one thing Columbus was great at lieing to everyone. Sorry to let you know he just kind of cruised by the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula that's it. Mexico or the part of Mexico is were it all began the creation of America and the American Dream and the begining of the story of America, later on was when the English did not want to stay behind wich the USA will always be no matter what behind Mexico it was because of the arrival of the Spanish Qonquistadores at the time they were the all mighty way more powerful and smarter than England. I can't believe many of you don't have knowledge of any of this. This video was not Medival Mexican history, it's The main reason why America is America, Mexico has always been the most desired most wanted land except the Spanish claimed it first USA or North America was what Queen Elisabeth was left with she had no choice, she was desperate to be stronger than Spain, because Spain has always been a step above anyone Mexico was chosen because of the buildings, nature, how different crops could grow there the hard working Colorful people there culture the women everything.

Love this area, although from doing some of these tours, you would think they would know their facts better, ask any Mayan and they'll tell you, they aren't pyramids, they are temples and I've confirmed with 3 different mayan tour operators, one of which grew up in the Coba area, it's the winners of these games who gets beheaded as a sacrifice to the Gods. Some of the most beautiful richly cultured people I have ever met and so happy to share it with you. I'd move there in a heartbeat if I could find a way.
