Honestly the character that need the most amount of work was Red XIII, Yuffie had her side story in game with Wutai, Cait sith had his own role with spying on Avalance for Shinra and later on Shinra for Avalance (as well as a not so insignificant role in dirge of Cerberus), Vincent had an entire game dedicated to him……Red XIII…..he just kind of was…..there…..you can cut pretty much his entire character and story arc and loose nothing in the orginal compilation

the og method of getting her was so much better. she was a random battle encounter in the woods. after you beat her she would talk smack and threaten to fight you if you went into the menu she would run off and the screen had a save point and if you accessed the menu to save before fighting her she would escape too. it was ok because to retry the sequence all you would have to do is try and get in another random battle encounter with her. the way the developers used the tried and true mechanics of the game to subvert your expectations about what will happen. (about to fight someone but have an opportunity to heal/save and then use those habits against you) help to provide further characterization to yuffie and let you know through mechanics that she doesnt 'play by the rules'

Hmm, I didn't know it was possible in this game to actually NOT get Yuffie. That's a pretty nice throwback to the fact that I never actually came across Yuffie in my first playthrough of FF7 back in the day so I didn't know anything about the character until much much later. That being said, there's NO WAY I wasn't going to pick up Yuffie as she showed just how good of a character she is from the DLC of Remake and I've been very glad to see that they didn't nerf her at all in this game but instead brought up the other characters a bit to make them more useful. Yuffie is still an incredible glass cannon and I'm thoroughly enjoying experimenting with different group convos to take full advantage of what she brings to the table.
