@HotaruMitsuki101 In the first mangas, Yami's character design wasn't as destinct, and he simply looked like a sociopathic Yugi. The strands of hair (originally) was supposed to be Yugi's bangs sticking up, to give him a further "possessed by a Jigsaw-esque egyptian spirit" look. The ORIGINAL yugioh manga can easily be read with a quick google search. You will begin to notice the art/plot evolution from there...

@magmablock This has more to do with the Japanese version. Originally, they had the full sequence in the first episode, then used a shortened version after that (from what I understand), while 4Kids used the full version just about every time. In the next few seasons, they never really had any stock footage, the transformation changing as seen fit, and 4kids were pretty much stuck with that.

I’ve had a thought. In super sentai, a few of their mecha end either in jin or oh. Jin, like Daizyujn, are revered as godlike, where as Oh typically translates to king. I wonder if the Oh in the shows title follows the same motif, since Atem is a pharaoh and yugi is the king of games.
