This is legit Yugo Villain arc. I get where he is coming from though. I am Canadian but come from a Vietnamese background. Washing rice was the first fucking thing that we learn to do. It was essentially the fundamentals of cooking. When I heard this on his stream, I was also worked up as well. I shared this with a friend with a Cambodian friend online. He was also worked up. Ye maybe its just japanese pearl rice (?) I don't really know the name but again theres like 1001 diff kinds of rice with 1001 diff ways to cook it. Even i wash my rice several times until the water becomes clear and pop it in the rice cooker

It's fine to just wash it and then put it in the cooker. Most people do that. Soaking is a little more controversial, but I personally find it makes the rice softer. The minimum you should soak it is around 20-30 minutes, 1 hour is fine, longer than that might make your rice weak and mushy. I also wasn't taught to do this, I learned to do it after learning how to cook sushi rice.
