This rifle is appearing today on our channel for the very first time. This is the Yugoslavian/Serbian M76, built by Zastava in Kragujevac. It was designed for use as a designated marksman rifle (DMR) and fired the classic 8mm Mauser (7.92x57) round. It was built on a milled receiver, had a 21.75" CHF barrel, and was paired with the ZRAK ON-M76 4× 5°10’ scope.
Today, we talk about the rifle's history, features, and tease what we have planned for the future...just as soon as the weather agrees that is.

Great video Misha! I used this model in my compulsory military service (and another model in the war), mine had the number 21997. It was a very reliable tool, with the right ammunition (M 75) capable of some 1 MOA groups in perfect conditions. Maximum range (because of the scope) is 800 meter, above that its more of a lucky guess .... The barrel is very good, but its required very thorough cleaning (the lack of the chrome lining). The scope is for today standards sub optimal, but for the time of the ´80 and the ´90 it was fine. Keep up the good work and thanks.

What are Frances gun laws like? I would’ve assumed they didn’t allow these rifles
@guillaumeferment7445
@guillaumeferment7445 2 жыл бұрын
@@Pk-io6xe full auto guns are forbidden, for semi automatic rifles, pistols, revolvers etc.. This type of firearms is classified in B category and you have to apply for authorisation and are allowed to possess max 12 of them in total.. All the rest are classified in C category, bolt actions, shotguns (depending on barrel length for the shotguns) there are no limitations as long as you have a hunting permit or is registered in a shooting association. Zastava M76 is a native semi automatic rifle it is classified in B category and can be purchased with authorisation or it can also be purchased in C category if the rifle is modified to function in manual mode (by modifying the gas tube I suppose). We have no import bans overhere, gun shops can import guns from any country. My local gun shop imported a batch of 50 M76 straight from Serbia, it is obviously original (we don't do parts kits like you have in the US) all matching and dated 1985.

Thank you for publishing this video. I have owned 3 M77/90 Mitchell Arms 7.62x51’s since the Clinton ban. Also 2 of the same but with the heavy finned barrel w/bipod. The only downside for several years was not being able to obtain magazines until recently when CSSPECS producted them. It’s still 1 of my favorite all time rifles.

There is a convoluted story of those in Italy. After being authorized for import and sold on the civilian market the Italian equivalent to the atf discovered that some rifles could fire full auto if selector was put in between fire and safe. Rifles were seized, included the one already purchased by individuals. It took more than 5 years of trials before judges decided that both the importer and citizens weren't guilty of illegal war weapons ownership and the whole full auto thing was just a defect. It is sad, as I love that rifle.

Actual millitary issues ones had that problem too, it has something to do with the trigger system, it was not an intended fire mode ofc seeing how you must position it in an oddly, specific position for it to toggle.

I had an opportunity to buy one of these at a gun show I attended in the early 2000s, but I passed as it was already prohibitively expensive at that time. I do really wish I'd made room in the budget somehow because the M76 is my favorite Yugoslav rifle. Something about 8mm Mauser in an AK action is...emblmatic of Yugoslavia itself as one of the preeminent third positionist states of the 20th century.

Good vid. I purchased my 76 in 8mm from AWO. Guessing about 10 years ago. Had a real nice guy that helped a bunch. Unfortunately he was fired. Some BS with the boss that got me involved. How the situation was handled, forced me to not to deal with AWO any longer. Something to consider. Because of the undercut on the stock, the back corner on the receiver will bit into your shooting hand. Also the magazine(s) will cause a jam loading the 10th round. As the bolt goes forward to load the 10th round, it pushes the magazine follower nose down with the 10th round. Causing a nasty jam. This is fixed by welding a piece of correctly sized flat metal to the back underside of the magazine follower. This stops the magazine follower from canting forward. Also, on the dovetail portion of the scope mount, apply some powdered chalk. When tightened down this will help the scope mount from sliding around in it's dovetail slot. I shoot Yugo 8mm heavy ball, 1954 (198gr). Hard primers but shoots accurately and consistent. Adjust the gas regulator accordingly and let 'er rip. Peace from free Texas

I'd say it's for the shooter to get a better grip and be able to better stabilize the rifle, for example, in prone position, having the barrel supported by sandbags or a rock or whatever.

The Serbs did not build any Mauser rifles although they did rework their original 7x57 rifles and specify what is now known as the ‘ring of steel’ on late production 7x57 orders. Yugoslavia adopted the 7.92x57 after WWI because most of the Serbian 7x57 rifles had been lost during the war and the 7.92x57 rifles were available as reparations along with ammunition; and the machinery to make more. There were also side benefits, in that the 7.92x57 IS machine gun round had a significantly longer range and the fatter bullet diameter was better in terms of tracer burnout distance. That was why the Swedes developed an 8mm machine gun round that was slightly superior to the prewar experimental 7.92x64 German round, released to the civilian market by its creator as the 8x64 S Brenneke. My mother’s father did his Yugoslav Army compulsory military service in the early 1920s where he used the Skoda (Salvator Dornaus) machine gun (and possibly the Steyr straight pull rifle to maintain ammunition commonality).

What are you talking about Serbs made the m48 (kar98k Mauser copy)
@michaelguerin56
@michaelguerin56 4 жыл бұрын
Bob Marley The M48 rifle was manufactured by Yugoslavia at a former Serbian arsenal. The kingdom of Serbia was replaced by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia after the Versailles Treaty came into force. Yugoslavia became a communist republic after World War 2. The current republic of Serbia was created in the 1990s. My mother’s father came from a small village called Igrane, in Dalmatia, near Makarska. The hotel in Igrane was built on land stolen by the Communists from our family. My grandfather risked being shot by Austrian troops when he sneaked onto that land during World War 1, in order to harvest the food that the family had grown on their land. He still ended up being the shortest parson in the family due to wartime shortage of food! I have Croat relatives who lived through the recent war. One of them served in the Croat Army during that war. Another was (and possibly still is) a gynaecologist or obstetrician.who was working in the maternity section of her hospital when the Serbs came through. DO NOT try to tell me or any other New Zealander who has relatives in that part of the world (and who has ‘worn the green’) that we do not know what we are talking about UNLESS you have solid data to back up your words.

@@michaelguerin56 I misunderstanded you.But Serbia existed since 8th Century long before America.Yugoslavia had 6 republics (Slovenia,Croatia,Bosnia,Serbia, Montenegro,Macedonia) Zastava was and is located in Serbia (kraguljevac) The communist have taken land from Rich Capitalists and others who where anti government or a threat. In Yugoslavia living standard was high Durning Socialisim but then in 1991 Slovenia Declaraed Independence (illegally) then Croatia (serbs where not happy with that because the last time Croatia was independent resulted in deaths of many serbs) The First Croatian president Was an Nationalist and he was in jail Durning Yugoslavia,Then Bosnia (where I live Republic of Srpska) the war in Bosnia was caused by the Muslim president wanting a Bosnia only for Muslim people (also spent time in jail Durning Tito Because of spreading Islam and wanting to kill everyone who is not a muslim and anti-goverment stuff) The war sparked when at a Serbian Wedding the man was shot dead by a muslim) Now we unfortunately are not living Good like in Socialism (Thanks fuc*ing America and your Democracy)

Are there any semiauto detachable mag rifles in 8mm Mauser that aren't super rare or $4k? (Besides the Hakim, which isn't really meant to have mags swapped out to reload) I just want somebody to remake the K43 or a similar rifle.
@ShootAUT
@ShootAUT 4 жыл бұрын
Semi-auto 8mm Mauser are definitely more rare than 7.62x54r semi-autos. So you're kind of bound to pay a premium to the about $2.5k a rifle in the soviet caliber costs. As far as I know, there're only the Gewehr 41, Gewehr 43, ZH29, ZK420S (and its earlier versions), Holek Automat, M76, and civilian replicas of the FG42. Most of them were either never adopted by any military (also 'cause part of them were mere sporting rifles), or came into place fairly late during WW2. So, either way, there haven't been produced many of them, and a lot of those didn't survive the war.
