My wife and I and many friends from all over the world were there. It was the final concert of the Verbier Festival and the Highlight of the Festival. She played Prokofieff 3 AND 5 ....the day before they needed two pianists for Prokofieff 1 and 2. Her stamina is incompearable. But even more "impressive" is her deeply emotional playing. Especially in the 4th. movement there are many "goosebumps"- moments, in my opinion one of the most touching moments in music is at min.14.....

Prok PC 5 is a magnificent concerto; it's not played as much as Prok PC1,2,3 so bravo to Yuja for playing it. Her performance is wonderful with superb accuracy, control and dynamics. The larghetto, particularly the piano solo part, is one of the most emotional passsages Prokofiev ever wrote. Very good orchestra and well conducted. Pity the adverts weren't timed a bit better - 1s before the 1st movement ends :(

As with much of Prokofiev, I love this piece when it is played as expertly as here. It sounds terrible when not performed to a high level. I firmly believe that Yuja is the greatest Prokofiev interpreter the world has seen so far.

To be fair I only discovered this piece earlier this year.. and I think it stands with No.2 as his two best concerti. Sadly, his No.1 and no.3 are the most popular probably because they’re easier on the ear tonally

Although Juya Wang is _a fantastic pianist,_ arguably the best pianist in the world today, this performance is off! It is not her fault. The sound technicians have messed up! The balance between the piano and the orchestra is wrong! The piano is too loud/orchestra too soft. The result is, that the full beauty of this entire piano concerto has not been done full justice! Maybe the conductor is also to blame for this!
@bryangl12 жыл бұрын
Although not professional, I've had a substantial amount of experience in audio engineering. And I also play 'classical' piano, so can listen with a trained ear. For me, the balances are excellent. Although I haven't looked at the audio waveform, there appears to be little or no compression. Actually, it's likely there's going to be a limited amount of compression otherwise differences between very soft and very loud would leave some sections unheard. What are you watching on? A phone, an iPad, a Device? It is very likely you can experience difficulties, such as you describe, with the device unable to properly deliver the range of audio levels. I think few people would describe this work as 'beautiful'. In summation, if anything is off, it resides at your feet.
