Yuja Wang’s philosophy of music is both simple and profoundly complex. “I want to relate all life to music,” she recently told veteran British critic Fiona Maddocks. The Beijing-born pianist’s latest album for Deutsche Grammophon captures the white heat of solo works by Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Scriabin and Ligeti, a trio of Russians together with one of the late 20th-century’s greatest composers. The Berlin Recital was recorded live this summer at the Berlin Philharmonie’s Kammermusiksaal during Yuja’s extensive solo tour of North America and Europe.

Finally available, Scriabin's last sonata, he called it the "insect-sonata". "Insects are mystical beeings-born from the sun" (Alexander Scriabin). Listen to this phenomenal interpretation of one of the best pieces ever written. No thrill is like the other, an interpretation out of this world! I was so lucky to hear and see this live in Zürich- the audience was speechless, you could hear a needle falling down. It was one of the rare moments, music transported the audience into another sphere. Thank you, Yuja!!!

Michael Schefold: "Agree with you! All her interpretations are closer to the composer than Horowitz' . Also listen to her Scarlatti K87! Breathtaking!" Incredible! Do you present yourself as a connoisseur of the Russian composer Scriabin ?! Horowitz was born, grew up and became a famous musician in Russia! He knew the culture of this country and its soul, knew Russian composers and their music! And you, the representative of Deutsche Grammophone, dared to assert that the American-Chinese version of the performance of Scriabin's music is a masterpiece ?! Listen to the performance of this sonata by Scriabin by Russian famous pianists Vladimir Sofronitsky and Heinrich Neuhaus! Yuya Vang should play country music and leave Russian (and European too) composers alone! By the way, Deutsche Gramophone, presenting the music of Russian composers performed by Yui Wang, violates the sanctions against Russia put forward by President Trump, Chancellor Merkel and the European Union!

@@mariodisarli1022 , well, not like I disagree with her being rather mediocre musically ( at the level she would want to be), but frankly your arguments beside that, industry, sexual, naked body, are ridiculous. She is a phenomenon technically, with prodigious memory, already gigantic repertory, the other details don't matter. She is doing outstanding job and deserves respect.

@@mariodisarli1022 Sorry to have abbreviated. Meant:...audiences love Scriabin('s music)...&...hear him (played) live. It is great to converse with Scriabinists, there are too few, IMO. I am in my 80s, attended hundreds of recitals over the years in So Calif, played many Scriabin works my self (im a mere hobbyist), & I was a member of the official Scriabin Society of America (NYC) years ago. I saw Ashkenazy play much Scriabin & Slobodyanik play Son 6, audiences were in awe. I mention these 2 among many artists.

Great clown!!! The New York Times Review: Yuja Wang, Trying Comedy, Shows How Funny Virtuosity Can Be The pianist Yuja Wang took a break from her typical concerts for a no-less-virtuosic comedy show at Zankel Hall on Monday.CreditMichelle V. Agins/The New York Times By Joshua Barone Feb. 12, 2019 In all seriousness: What can’t Yuja Wang do? This star pianist has built her reputation on breathtaking mastery of the standard repertory, like the chamber works she played last Wednesday with the violinist Leonidas Kavakos at Carnegie Hall. Or Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto, which she’ll do with the Boston Symphony Orchestra later this week. But in between those two dates, she stopped by Carnegie’s Zankel Hall on Monday for something entirely different: a comedy show. One with music, of course. And, as always, she was radiant in Rachmaninoff and Lutoslawski. But there was - more. She rapped! She sang and danced through a “West Side Story” medley! She did one-legged, upside-down yoga on a piano bench! And along the way, she never lost an ounce of virtuosity.

I think it is difficult for her to arrange a performance of a relatively unpopular orchestral piece like the Schoenberg concerto. It is easier for her to include composers like Schoenberg in her solo recitals. She has several times played the Schoenberg Suite for Piano Op 25 this year. The Yuja Wang archive has a link to one of the performances (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5y5ipyCrqh9a5o) I would just mention that I consider composers like Rachmaninov (she plays all four of his piano concertos among other pieces), Prokofiev (she plays all five of his concertos, arguably better than anyone else in history) and Bartok (all three piano concertos, a stern test) to be 20th century composers
@stueystuey1962
@stueystuey1962 Жыл бұрын
@@timothybolshawI get it. There are 5 or 6 Piano Concertos by the so called serialists worthy of performance. They become popular by virtue of one of the performers playing a work. Schoenberg, Carter, Maderna, Babbitt and Wuorinen. There are probably other compositions waiting for a performance. Carters Concerto for piano is one of the greatest works of the late 20th Century.

An omen? Im hearing this great reading of the "insect Son." on 3/15/19, just 2 days after it was posted. Earlier today I got to see thousands of "Painted Lady" butterflies flying past my coastal home in So. Calif, these insects are migrating from Mex to No.Calif. I never have seen this before in my 45 years living here.

No soy músico, mucho menos compositor.

@jonathansamir8351

Saludos

As I read my comment again, it does sound pretty stupid. My point, of course, is that Yuja's already amazing, but I hope to be around (and I hope Yuja is around) in 20 years so I can hear her then. By the way, I LOVED Yuja's performance of this Scriabin sonata.

@@bootman26 Your comment was not stupid at all! Some , tho. may think 'maturity' is a matter of age. But, in music, it can be inspiration and freshness of thought that sometimes takes the cake. I also hope to be here in 20 years; Yuja may not be wearing her short dresses then, but how interesting it will be indeed to hear how her vision of works may have changed. Fascinatingly different, if not always better than she has already done. I also hope at that age, she will still bring into the world of music the sheer joy she does; a classical world that to often is grim 'seriousness'.All the best to you...

Excuse me, but the result is for me more Ives than Skrjabin. She is playing so soft and too beautiful. Very interesting, but the Skrjabin I imaginate is more erratic and strong. It is the Skrjabin of the great Russian pianists.

horrible, absolutely horrible. she just runs through this music carelessly, not a single phrase was given a meaning. So much money for a ticket just to listen to a 2-3 hour worth of work, that apparently was put into learning of this piece(maybe even less). (Mark 8:36) 'For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?' Specially gifted artists are mortals like the rest of us. In their art, they mostly seek their own pleasure. We should not be in awe of them. Scriabin composed this piece near the end of his life, at the height of his powers. He was involved in a bizarre pseudo-philosophical and religious cult of the time, called 'theosophy'. He probably did not realize that a bizarre medical condition would suddenly strike him dead at the age of 43.

@@JoeLinux2000 It's one thing to do exceptional things which one likes doing, because one has been granted both the capacity and the opportunity.
