Yuji is severly overmatched in many ways. Man has no cursed technique. There is no possible way for him to use Domain Expansion. He doesn't know basic skills like Simple Domain or Domain Amplification. He's all brute strength, and the only skill he learned increases his strength. He's like basketball player with no shot, no handles, and no court vision. But if you throw it toward the basket, he can dunk it.

Coating objects with cursed energy is reinforcement. That's just increasing strength but of something external. Btw, we are talking about outmatched for the Culling Games. Maki and Toji are not in the Culling Games, if they were we don't know how they would fare, and there is no evidence to say that Yuji is even as strong as them. @@Black_Guy Divergent fist as we saw with Mahito is more than just a strength amplifier. He literally used it to delay Mahitos attack while preparing another attack. Situation of utility. Toji went up against Gojo albeit before his awakening and won, with planning and his crazy fighting ability. And we don't even need to discuss how Maki solo'd one of three top clans of Jujutsu sorcerery. Safe to say she would fair very well in the culling games. Yuji isn't as strong as them, but saying he's just "Brute strength" is downplaying.

The other ways he uses his cursed energy does not change that simple fact to me. Again, I'll use a basketball analogy. The Divergent Fist is like a pump fake before a dunk. Just because Yuji pump fakes doesn't mean he's not a dunker. The man only scores in the paint. Translation: His only go to offense is physical attacks.

Yuji has been getting stronger though it’s bits and pieces as his mindset changes. He’s able to control Divergent Fist and is definitely one of the best Black Flash users that we’ve seen when he’s in that mindset/the zone. But as you said in the video, he needs a power up to contend with these characters. It’s no longer him fighting a character that can give him a reasonable win with his current moveset or a character that spares his life. Since not every Culling Game member is going to be like Higuruma, imagine if he ran into someone like Reggie. My guess is that, as Gojo predicted, he’ll manifest Sukuna’s technique. It’ll be both a power up and the next stage in Itadori’s development.

I can't remember exactly but since Yuta fought him I believe he's been just defending or doing just enough to win for the rest of his fights. Basically he hasn't been blood lusted in quite a while so I'm not sure if he needs a "power up" or just needs to fight with the resolve he had against Mahito. He's also kind of a wildcard because if Sukana takes over he's basically the most deadly (won't say strongest until he's got 20 fingers) character.

Yea! Like an ability similar to a character from 7 deadly sins. She’s a demon and every punch she lands on an opponent they get stronger with each hit. Because yuji is a close quarters fighter this will go great with amplifying his abilities and pushing passed his already insane physical limit. Making him a monster if his opponents aren’t careful.

By combining the two for a direct attack that maintains contact once initiated then proceed to switch up your curse wavelength to AC vs DC and suddenly that one attack is now hitting thousands of times per second and every hit after that only multiplies the effects. Combine that with the fact that he’s basically sending someone’s curse wavelength into seizure mode weaker opponents will basically be paralyzed for the duration.

Something that I think gets overlooked is that yuji doesn't really need to be strong. Based on what we can assume is part of kenjaku's plan, Yuji is able to function as a vessel for sakuna. His power doesn't matter because his actual power is that he was (probably) created or born for this specific purpose. His strength is that he uniquely is able to do this, as gojo says.

Idk if it's completely true, I mean the part of Kenjaku really needing him and Sukuna bc when Mahito and Choso said they want to kill him, he had nothing against it. Unless he's extremely optimistic and thinks Yuji will survive every opponent but then, what if Yuta would really want to execute Yuji? In this case Yuji would be just dead at this point and this is not smth Kenjaku could've predict... Anyway, Kenjaku also expects Yuji to grow with power ("I expect great things from you"), not just be able to contain Sukuna so I guess Yuji will become stronger, this is what really needs to happen.

The most important thing for him at this point is having some way to deal with domains. Almost every single opponent from this point is going to have a domain expansion and he has no chance at even handling one like Higuruma’s. Sukuna’s cursed technique is a mystery but I’m willing to bet each finger has some unique ability. There might be one suited for Yuji’s fighting style since I can’t imagine him going from a bruiser to skillfully using things like dismantle and cleave. With no ranged techniques and a total inability to deal with domains, he is helpless against a decent opponent at this point.

Domain Amplification would be perfect. Downside of Simple Domain is that he cant move in the domain but Domain Amplification doesnt have that. Well you cant use your CT but thats irrelevant for Yuji currently. Also Domain Amplification negates CTs while Simple Domain only negates Domain Expansions. I think his power boost will have to do with Divergent Fist. Since we've seen this technique evolve through the series. During the Yunpei arc, Akutami introduces this technique into Yuuji's repertoir. In the Goodwill Event we see that his training with Todo makes him get rid of this "bad habit". And during Shibuya he gains control of the technique again, but this time he uses it consciously. I would like to imagine that the Culling Game will force Itadori to make his technique more flexible. It could potentially evolve some kind of bomb that he plants in a surface or an enemy that he could later detonate when a condition is met or when he snaps his fingers. That way his fights would require a little more tactics than just punch and kick the enemy until they go down. It would also make for more fun, dynamic battles, since he likes to use objects of the environment to take cover or throw around.

I think it’s interesting and very bold of akutami for not making his character, despite being the host of the most powerful curse in the world, a superpowered force of nature. Yuji in a sense is just a fodder character you’d see in any other anime who is eclipsed by all the overpowered main characters. I would also like to say that ever since Mahito Yuji has not gone all out in any other fight after that. He's literally either been injured, holding back , not fighting back or as with Higuruma had his cursed energy taken. I am sure Gege is saving him going all out for a more pivotal moment that would impact his power versatility. That being said I think people need to be patient and not be expecting this to happen right off bat. It's much more interesting watching it build up than for him to become cursed energy Jesus rn. Do you know how broken he's gonna be with his physical prowess and Sukuna's techniques. It's so wild to think about that I can understand Gege holding off on it this long.

I don’t think Yuji is necessarily underpowered; post-Shibuya, it’s shown he’s definitely grown to insane levels of strength through all that trauma. It’s just that he’s among characters who as just as skilled in different areas, if not more, and that can create a bit of a contrast. Yuji biggest advantage was is physical and martial superiority, that made him a grade 1 But that ain’t all that special now that we’ve seen monsters like: Awakened Maki, Ishiguri and Yuta Okkotsu Maki’s heavenly restriction has basically brought her the pinnacle of physicality and Yuta is a walking Hax. Yeah it's pretty easy to forget that the best attack Yuji has is Black Flash, which he cant even use at will, I always thought Yuji will eventually be a proficient cursed tool user since it's been sort of teased/shown twice that he's very good at using short swords and knives, as shown in the beginning of the series when he used Slaughter Demon, and later on in his fight with Okkotsu where he even managed to snap Okkotsus blade in half on top of the fact that the knife he used then was a completely normal one and not an actual cursed tool, granted Okkotsu wasn't going all out but neither was Yuji since he lowkey wanted to die

Before I watch this video I just want to say, Yuji's been getting some pretty solid dubs for a while now. More importantly though, his barely scraping by on several fights is what makes good tension, You don't want your main man to run around a curb stomping everybody. That said, his fundamentals are amazing. Yuji can throw hands with pretty much anybody before the domains come out. Also he's pretty much guaranteed to get Sukuna's curse technique any time now, like Gojo foreshadowed

I like this. Yuji being underpowered will lead him to relying on his body learning sukuna's techniques (for some reason everyone forgets about this little aside point that Gojo stated at the beginning.) This is conflict of interest between his morality and his goal. He doesn't want to kill anyone that hasn't personally effected him. When Higurama saw how suicidal he was. His guilt and trauma (solely provided by Sukuna) will give him a moral reason not to want to use those awakened techniques but the culling games will give him no other choice but to sacrifice a little more of his humanity to help everyone. It's literally peak writing in my opinion. If you're not going to challenge your characters both physically and mentally, you're not going to feel the win when it comes. A lot of the times in shounen, the writer gives the main character an easy out as to not change that character forever. Akutami literally put Yuji in an emotional blender and pressed turbo. Yuji will have no other choice but to advance.

I don't think that the fight with Higuruma is a good measuring point for Yuji's strengh. The only way for Yuji not to lose his cursed energy (aside of winning the trial) would be casting his own domain, which sound a little unreasonable at this point in the story. And even after losing his energy he still held himself very well and was smart enough to ask for a retrial. I think the main role of this fight in the story was not to show his strength level, but to show his mental state. Yuji needs to work on his trauma first and only then he has a chance of moving forward

I know this is late, but I think that the point is that Yuji is too weak in order to have an impact within the context of the culling games. I don’t think Yuji is weak per se, but rather that he just isn’t strong. These games were meant for the strong to come out on top (like any game tbh), and Yuji isn’t there at all. He has needed help, been saved by someone else, or just has straight up lost in every battle against any formidable opponent thus far. I think that a lot of people allude to his *potential* when talking about his power stating that “he’s getting better” or “he’ll surprise everyone soon”, which I agree he will, but right now he is on the weaker side comparatively. Lastly, I’m not saying that Yuji *should* be on the levels as the others, I mean come on, most of the heavy hitters are either special grades or were prominent figures in the *golden* *age* of jujutsu, so it’s not like he would walk in and beat everyone’s ass (he’s been a sorcerer for less than a year). Yuji has a lot of potential, Gojo said it himself, so I think the main issue with fans is the pacing of his progress (especially since Megumi is making steady improvements). After seeing all these sorcerers and the absolutely elite level you need to be at to compete, I’m sure Gege will give Yuji a power up of some kind the next time we see him fight. If not, I think the fans have the right to be a bit impatient.

Yuji is still the best Martial Artist within the series and best user of Cursed Energy without a Technique. Durability and Endurance are very high. I just love how Gege has handled him so far. The story isnt reliant on Yuji. All characters receive a primary focus within this story. They all work together to progress the narrative. Most SJ series have 1 MC driving the narrative. One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, BC, MHA and so on. There is a great emphasis layed down on the MC of these series. These series will always have to fall back on the MC eventually to progress the narrative. So eventually the MC gets powerboosts all the time. But in JJK, its done very well to where it feels like everybody plays an equal role within the story. The narrative can be driven by multiple characters.

Honestly there’s so much that hasn’t been fully shown about cursed energy, like for instance, we saw that when blackflash reaches another level, it allows for you to break your limits, yuji todo & mahito increased to 120% of their power... which has never been stated until it happened, so now we know blackflash makes your attacks 2.5x stronger and can make your whole entire body 20% stronger than your full power Then next up we find out that your curse energy can put on different properties, with Hakari’s CE feeling like sand paper, and Hajime’s CE working like lightning, this was somewhat foreshadowed since yuji’s CE allows for him to do divergent fist, which we thought to be “wrong” but in fact divergent fist is definitely a solid ability since you’re getting 2 hits from 1 strike(a divergent fist with blackflash is absolutely busted fyi) so that’s 2 people currently using unique abilities all stemming from CE... there’s definitely going to be even more things coming from GEGE about CE & CT, I mean look at domain amplification

No, even tho tanking a Black Flash is impressive let me explain why it doesn't compare to an Ice Breaker attack really quickly... Simply put the physical strength of someone's attack will usually scale closely to one's durability. So Yuta being able to easily damage Yuji with a very weak attack indicates that his durability and toughness with cursed energy is at least similar to Yuji's. This is pretty consistent seeing that Yuta also has other similar physical stats showings to Yuji in this fight. Since Yuta took massive damage from ice breaker and needed to heal himself, its very likely that Yuji himself would take a similar amount of damage without the ability to heal from it im battle

i could see yuji's power boost going two ways, both stemming from him becoming more comfortable with his role as a cog, and thus, more comfortable killing. Yuji has already accepted himself to be the person who murdered everyone in shibuya, and has nonetheless decided to keep moving forward. If yuji were to become as 'crazy' as other sorcerers and have no reservations killing, I could totally imagine him either learning cleave, or alternatively (to keep with him not having a technique), learning to use black flash on a whim against anyone (in other words, black flash literally every attack). We already saw that yuji seemed to be able to use black flash consistently in the mahito fight, and I can imagine that the only reason he hasn't been using it after that is because he's subconsciously hesitating because he knows he could kill someone in one hit. I could see Higuruma, being someone who was once too just for his own good but has now completely moved past the barrier of killing others himself, teaching Yuji that he really does have no choice but to kill in these culling games, that it's essentially kill or be killed. I think that might well be Yuji's main development in this arc, if he's too focused on not killing in the short term, he may well be unable to accomplish his goal of saving as many people as possible in the long run - he's already having to come to terms with the fact that his choice to stay alive and consume sukuna has literally killed hundreds in the process.

I spent too much time on this, I'm praying it doesn't get buried lmao Physical Strength Alone: Most likely a product of being the son of Kenjakku, Yuji displays incredible physical strength. Here are some of his physical feats BEFORE becoming a sorcerer/vessel for Sukuna. -Itadori shatters Japan's shot put world record, launching the ball with so much force that it bent and warped the soccer net it hit. -Itadori somehow jumps multiple stories high, carrying enough force to kick through a glass window. Then he flips himself around at breakneck speed to land a hit on the cursed spirit holding his friends. -Itadori holds his own against a cursed spirit which was able to dominate over Megumi by pulling off some insane moves and getting slammed into the concrete floor (roof?), all while bleeding from the mouth. (Keep in mind, those three examples all come from the first episode, where Yuji ISN'T a vessel or a sorcerer. It's also stated that Itadori isn't on any sports teams. He spends his time hanging out in the occult club with his friends. He should be unexceptional, maybe even below average. What I'm trying to say is that Itadori wasn't normal to begin with.) Now, I'll bring up some examples of his physical strength after becoming a sorcerer/vessel: -During his final confrontation with Junpei, he is stabbed in the shoulder and abdomen. This largely unphases him. -During his 1v1 against Mahito after Junpei's death, Itadori maintains his strength, even after being stabbed multiple times in the hands and chest (not to forget the shoulder and abdomen stab wounds from moments earlier). -Moments after this, he's able to jump TWO STORIES HIGH while fighting the transfigured humans (still suffering from the stab wounds I mentioned earlier). -Itadori, while carrying Kugisaki on his back, is able to run with so much force that he literally put a hole in the ground where he planted his foot. Judging from the rumor going around in episode 1, it's possible that he can run 50 meters in just 3 seconds (this may have been true even before he became a vessel!). Not only that, he's running so fast that he LITERALLY BENDS the guardrail that stops him. That should have been enough force to break someone's back at the very least, but this uninjures Itadori. -Moments later, he is able to punch with so much force that he puts holes in the concrete he hits. He does this four times and is unphased. -Once again, moments later, he's shown to run as fast as a speeding car (as to catch up with Eso). There are so many more examples in the manga, but I'm not gonna bother even trying to mention all of them. So, what I'm trying to say is that Itadori is insanely strong. If he were able to learn Sukuna's techniques, who knows what he could do.

My basic problem with this at it's core is that there's no reason to think Gege forgot. Only recently in Shibuya did we really get a clue what Sukuna does... SOME clue, because then he pulls off that fire bullshit and it is hinted there's more to it. Then there's the whole mess with Fushiguro and whatever he has planned. Both the future and the full powers of Sukuna have big question marks, while Yuji hasn't even eaten all the fingers. Yuji just getting Sukuna's powers doesn't seem like something that would be randomly thrown in with all this mystery, unless it was to start setting up to dive into said mystery.

As a few other commenters have said, in many of the post-Shibuya fights Yuji has been holding back for one reason or another, and unwilling or unable to go all out (cursed energy nullification, weaker opponents, etc). Before shibuya, yuji only had consumed 3 fingers, but post-Shibuya, he's consumed 15+ and we can reasonably believe he is 5 times as powerful as he was before. He probably could have solo'd mahito (or exorcised him with kugisaki's help) if his resolve hadn't broken, and he would've killed mahito anyways if not for kenjaku's interference. He didn't go full throttle during his fight with Yuta because of his guilt about the deaths caused by Sukuna and so deep down he felt it would be justified to kill him (this is explicitly stated in the manga), plus you could argue he was also burnt out from all the previous action. I get the feeling yuji is much more powerful than he previously was and gege is planning a big reveal of that newfound power. Either way, I don't doubt Yuji is gonna get some form of powerup within the next couple chapters, and I can't wait to see it!

People have to remember that Yuji is literally protected from Mahito's two main ways of killing because of his unique body/relationship with Sukuna. Generally speaking Yuji is NOT stronger than Mahito, because not only is Yuji an anomaly that isnt affected by Idle Transfiguration but even still he requires the help of Nobara AND Todo to take him down. I dont wanna downplay Yuji, but there is context to his fights with him. As for the Higuruma fight, Yuji was just outsmarted and outhaxed. Because of that he couldn't fight like how he wanted and was put at a disadvantage

Yuji gets a lot of help vs Mahito and has a super convenient resistance. Vs. Higuruma he gets outplayed hard to the point where had he not convinced Higgy of his innocence through his resolve, he would have been dead meat. I’m really looking forward to when megumi and yuji can fight side by side again. With us seeing more of Yuta, having not seen Maki in forever, and seeing all these new wildly powerful sources that we’re still learning about it’s crazy to think how Yuji will manage to keep up. I don't think he will, in episode 7 he gets sad after Gojo tells him he has no cursed technique because he wanted to use the rasengan and special moves like that. That scene plays out like a joke but I feel it's Akutami's way of telling us Yuji won't get a technique unique to him. One of the other comments of this video presented an interesting idea of Yuji being so good cursed energy manipulation that it looks like he has a cursed technique, where he becomes so good at Divergent fist that any surface he hits can set off like a bomb with the more powerful second impact of his strikes

I don't think Yuji is weak considering how long he has been a jujutsu sorcerer. In my opinion his growth is some of the healthiest I have seen in manga. He's not overpowered which is normally what happens with protagonists. But just because he isn't one of the best doesn't mean he's weak he's still capable of taking on 1st grade curses. Just not the absolute top brass. Also I think that he got a considerable upgrade from eating Sekunas fingers. Atleast in terms of base stats like strength and healing.

I wanted to see yuji learn the barrier techniques, but it seems like he won’t have the time. Probably the fastest way would be to force sukuna into some binding vows. I don’t think that he’s going to suddenly awaken a technique of sukuna, the best chance of him getting a training arc is if he goes back into sukunas Inate domain and fights him for a while.

He already has one with sukuna, that if he says enchain sukuna switches places with him, and sukuna fights for him for 1 minute. However he can't utilize it because in the second stipulation of the vow is that he forgets it ever happened. Only sukuna knows about this.

I don't think Yuji is weak but he is definitely like B tier when it comes to strength in his story. However I don't think that's a bad thing because that happens in many shonen and he still does impressive stuff and his fights are sick. He's going to get an obvious power up soon but I don't think this is an issue currently

Based on my understanding of things he's pretty much green compared to most of the cast. So to me it makes sense that in terms of power scaling he's lower on the totem pole, then people who have been battling curses for years.

I can't say much for sure about what Yuji will be able to accomplish in the near future, but I don't think he will be out of luck in his fights any time soon. I think the only reason we see so many strong opponents in these chapters is just because Gege Akutami wanted to properly scale Yuta ahead of plot points that will come into fruition by the end of the Culling Game arc. By having new characters bring Yuta as far to his "limit" as they did, we now have a standard on which we can assess Yuta. If this part didn't happen, any important fights later in the arc would feel like a cop-out on the authors part. There would be no way to give a good reason for okkotsu losing; with him being the second strongest modern sorcerer behind gojo with limitless cursed energy and an unknown cursed technique and all that jazz, and in the case he wins anything important to the plot, what was the point in taking gojo from the story from a writing perspective? He would just become another gojo figure, with no comparable equal and no limits to his strength. By setting these hard limits now, when we see Yuta lose/win a fight later in the manga it will make much more sense in comparison to this than what was previously known. Though it would be weird for all these incredibly strong sorcerers to only be in the Sendai Colony, so maybe I could be wrong and we see characters as strong as Ishigori boxing itadori sometime soon.

Theory time: Yuji not only will be strong enough by the end of this arc, he'll probably spark Sukana's interest then. Edit: Yuji has been teased to have a CT that affects the memories of his opponents i.e. Todo & Choso. Both of them were moments away from killing him & memories neither of them had, debatable with Choso, changed their allegiance. Yuji more than likely has a CT that rewrites the memories of people. On top of that I believe the season 1 opening also teases his possible domain expansion. However, if that's just speculation Sukuna's techniques will become his own through effort, and who's to say he doesn't make variations. "Smash" and "Clobber" could be blunt versions of "Cleave" and "Dismantle" just saying 🤷🏾‍♂️.

multiple things to say about this: 1. im (anime man) seen things here and there in manga, i would assume he hasnt but has yuji used any of sukune's abilitys or even close to them, gojo did say at some point yuji could possibly use em but who knows if thats something akin to sukune letting, or choosing to let yuji use or manifest that curse. 2. watching this an hearing everything i keep thinking of HxH when it comes to "Enhancers" and "specialists" or whatever the other classes are its been awhile forgot... 3. what is sukune known for as far as his abilitys? ik he has shown sum stuff in shibuya that arent "close combat" type things im not going to spoil myself reading it waiting for anime, but his domain expansion guarantees him a "hit" or "scratch" as hes shown. so i would assume yuji in some time may come to get or obtain an ability having to do with close combat guaranteeing him a hit or something - thats all i got.

Yuji really needs somekind of defensive technique or ability to counter domains, because his only way of defending is "fuck it we ball" and just keep fighting through the pain. if he learned a simple domain, or some kind of defensive technique from sukuna, then maybe he could do better against people like mahito.

I agree with the video, Yuji is very underpowered. However what I did notice is how Akutami is giving him small buffs, such as Yuji being able to break down curse techniques and even Higuruma domain. Yuji pov is showing us his mindset after Shibuya. He’s more patient and is using his head more. I believe his curse technique will manifest since he is a offspring of kenjaku and his false memory thing might be something of that nature ( just a theory I already know Akutami debunk certain things) and if he learns any of Sukuna techniques Yuji will be able to hold his own. As of now yes I don’t see how Yuji can survive alone with the level of players in the culling games

Honestly toji and maki prove you don’t need fancy abilities to get down with the best of the best, they could just give yuji a special grade cursed tool like inverted spear of heaven on top of his black flashes/divergent fists and he’d be virtually unstoppable to even most special grades (assuming his physical power and cursed energy manipulation continue to improve)

I see two general paths of Yuji to grow, path one involves him learning reverse cursed technique and simple domain which will boost his durability and give him protection from domain expansions. The second path is him gaining Sukuna's technique. One thing to point out is that Gojo himself said he finds people with a strong grasp of the fundamentals to be scary.

i dont think JJK is necessarily centered around yuji, even though he is technically the main character. this has been shown through him being underpowered and that there is no rush to get him up to scale. the issue isnt that the main character needs to be th "strongest", its that as you said, he needs to stack up and provide to the cause as it is implied he is going to/has to do.
