One thing that struck me as a kid for Atlantis was how raw the actions scenes were. Disney went from only having one person dying being a focal point to Atlantis literally having over 3/4 of the initial sub crew getting killed by the Leviathan within the first half of the movie. It was brutal but so action packed at the same time.

One of the best aspects of Atlantis in my opinion was the design, a good amount of which was done by Mike Mignola who created hellboy, and I love that you can see the direct influence in the art style of the movie. If Atlantis was turned into a series with the attention and care of something like Andor it could really work.

Treasure Planet was workshopped by Musker and Clements over like 15 years, the script was _immaculate_ by the time they were allowed to start making it. The original script for "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" was estimated to be 155 minutes if it was fully animated. They had to cut a lot of content to make it under 100 minutes. They settled on having half the film be the expedition and half the film being in Atlantis. If they got to make that MASSIVE uncut version, I wager that the latter half of the film would be mostly the same, but the first act would have a lot more emotional buildup than just Milo's quick film reel of Thaddeus and Whitmore talking about him. There are also storyboards of a few monster encounters that had to be cut for time, such as "squid bats" and "lava whales".

I'd argue that a live-action remake of Treasure Planet or Atlantis would do much better than Disney's other live-action movies more due to their Sci-Fi styling. With their previous remakes, Disney made a conscious effort to make anything even tangentially related to real life as accurate as possible. So much so, they ended up taking away a lot of the fun colours and motions of the animated versions. With Treasure Planet and Atlantis, they are already so far removed from reality in their Sci-Fi genre that I feel they could lend themselves much better to live-action with CGI. Whether it would be good, let alone as good as their animated counterparts is a much more difficult question to answer but I can see them doing better than Disney's other live-action movies.

Part of the draw of these stories was the idea of adventure that was so prevalent during the early 2000’s. There was such an air of being in the cusp of new things and the desire to push past our limits at the time. I’m not sure how or why we lost that drive and settled into whatever creative rut we have now that is so blatantly meant to sell toys than to impart a social lesson. So much of kids media has been dumbed down in recent years that it’s little wonder why kids these days are so…broken. Many just don’t know what being a good person is like because there aren’t examples in their media- with the rise of social media this problem has become even worse since why bother with animation if real people are more entertaining because they break societal norms for the sake of fame.

You know a fun fact? Treasure Planet could easily take place on the Spelljammer setting from D&D

i was literally born in 2001 and Atlantis came out in 2001, and Treasure Planet in 2002 so I was probably not born yet and then possibly a year old and can't remember crap so that's probably why I wasn't there XD

Not having a father in my early year I really loved Treasure Planet it was something that really clicked with me. I also loved Titan AE and Atlantis. All three really resonated with me and helped me to accept my step father years down the road when he came into my life.

For me personally, these 2 movies were the only Disney male lead action packed movies that checked every box I wanted as a kid. And to this day they are still my favorite Disney movies!

These are both my top tier disney movies. I went into both with absolutely no expectations and they became my favourites. Atlantis was even the subject of my film analysis essay in college! Despite both being fairly linear stories, the characters truly shine, the visuals are gorgeous, a perfect mix of 2D and 3D that I WISH Disney would revisit. They both had storylines I thoroughly enjoyed and both had a relationship at it's core that had me wilting. (Spoilers ahead!) Milo and Kida have a wonderful dynamic together and I love the way they interact. Their romance is never explicitly stated but you see them bond oh man, it's so cute. And Jim and Silver struck such a major chord with me. I've never had a brilliant relationship with my dad, so I've always sought them in fiction to sort of substitute for it. Silver going soft and realising he cares for Jim, to the point where he sacrifices what he's always longed for to save him? I loved them so, so much. The whole "I'm Still Here" sequence in the film is one of my favourite to date. In my own opinion, it's Disney's best. It's Disney's "Arcane", and extremely underrated. (That being said Atlantis is my personal favourite but the gap is practically microscopic, it's like saying Arcane is the best tv series but SW Rebels is my favourite which is also true) I truly, truly do not think modern day Disney has what it takes to adapt these respectfully into live action. Seeing some of their recent adaptations, as well as the recent Uncharted adaptation, I just wouldn't trust a studio to do a good job. An animated remake? A series? Perhaps. I've said for a few months that Treasure Planet deserved it's planned sequel, but perhaps a comic since we wouldn't have the same VA for Silver? I'll take anything, just not live action. I don't want to see Tom Holland cast as Milo Thatch.

I would say that about every other Disney animated film, popular, or not. Honestly, I miss the days when Disney re-released their animated films IN THEATRES BEFORE VIDEO from time to time.

Growing up, my parents didn't buy Atlantis but the one time that I do remember seeing it, it didn't grab me. Watching it again older, I realized it was the dialogue that I definitely would not have understood as a kid.
