Because that worked so well the last time. I refuse to believe that the snyder cut we got was "the director's original untouched vision," I'm quite confident if Zack didn't step down halfway through production "the real original vision" (that WB would have allowed him to release) would have been only somewhat better than the movie we ultimately got in 2017. There's no way Zack didn't say "on 2nd viewing with lots of time to reflect, that actually doesn't work, I'm going to fix it" or "I originally cut this because it made the run time too long, but since people can pause the movie I'm putting it back" when he was making "Zack Snyder's Justice League" for HBO.

Snyders whole ethos is summed up in sucker punch,(a movie he also wrote,) he has this desire for the epic and sensational, but the storytelling to get to those moments always flails. He does better with others' IP, maybe he needs to collaborate with a writer who can help him make his ideas more tangible, someone who can help him write a story that earns the gravitas that slo-mo implies lol.

As with most of his adaptations, Snyder seems to misunderstand the central ideas behind the material he adapts. This movie is an amalgamation of sci-fi concepts as seen in other sci-fi movies and tv shows without any of the context that made them impactful in their original appearances. Strung together like this, it just creates a story made up of a series of cool events and really flashy looking scenes.

Its funny, at 6:21 he mentions RM has a few interesting ideas, but the scene shown is actually one of the elements Snyder "borrowed". The tentacle alien speaking through a human is a cuter version of the Independence Day aliens and their use of humans as lavalier mics. I don't understand the "slow motion" obsession he has. I HATE random slow motion. It's like playing a video game and too much stuff is on screen and happening at once. I did not go in thinking about the connection to star wars. I learned about that after. But it definitely wear its rip offs- I mean- "Inspirations" on its sleeve. Each "samurai" represents another series. Warhammer 40k, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Conan, Gladiator. But it all felt like little peaks into other movies I would rather watch over Rebel Moon. Yeah, Zack has cool moments and how he shoots a camera is cool. But he isn't a writer. I feel like if you paired Snyder with a competent writer, casting director, and editors, his movies might actually be decent.

I used to think "Snyder is a bad director now but at least we got 300," but that was from the perspective who saw 300 once when it came out when I was 15. I rewatched it last night and I don't know if it aged badly, or if it was always bad and I was just a dumb kid back then, but it was an embarrassing slog. My main dilemma is they take a much longer time to make than my conventional videos and unfortunately I don't have the luxury of doing KZbin full time 😔 My goal is to get a few of them out this year to make up for the lack of them in 2023. Next one is definitely Gamecube!

Disappointed you didn't mention the main villain being into meth fueled Tentacle Sex I liked the movie but I laughed outloud at that good vid btw
