Yurlok of Scorch Thrash | Group Hug/Slug | $150 Budget EDH/Commander Deck Tech

Yurlok is not a purple dinosaur, but that won’t stop him from hugging harder than one. This deck’s plan is to produce an overabundance of mana while having Yurlok out, causing mana burn for our opponents. We get to avoid the mana burn by having a critical mass of X spells and mana sinks. This deck was built with a $150 budget in mind. The day I built it, it fit that requirement. By the time this video was edited just a week later, it was up to $160, but that’s still pretty close!

I'm building a Yurlok deck and have most of these in deck, but never considered: Spectral Searchlight, Monsoon, Xantcha, Last One Standing, Mana Cache, and Sands of Time Thanks : )

A card I'm going to include in my Yurlok deck is going to be Overabundance, but I also plan on having some lifegain with Klothys. I hadn't considered Sands of Time though and I love that card!

Klothys is a good idea! I actually had Overabundance in here until the very final version. Had to cut it in favor of Keeper of Progenitus for budget reasons. Glad you enjoyed the tech! Next one up is yours.

I think a deck like this relies on your politicking more than anything also you need more perment answers I like the Deathgrip enchantment to be honest... It helps keep the green decks under control as they're usually the ones who can do something with all the mana you give them. Also painful quandary is good to get your opponents out of cards if they insist on casting stuff. King Macar is good removal if you've got tap and untap stuff.

put a bunch of gods in mine for the mana sinks. realized i had a lot of enchantments so had an enchantress subtheme for more card draw. I don't like effects that allow opponents to have additional mana on their turns. You have to pack too much removal to stop them from getting out of control boardstates. so symetrical buffs like overabundance, vineyards, manaflare i think never net you as much damage as you think but get you into scarier situations by accelerating their plans

I really like the Gods in this type of deck, as well! If you've got the budget, there's no reason not to include them! Anyway, I get your point about the mana doublers, and I don't even really disagree with it. I just thought the doublers would be more fun overall, for myself. I'm glad you posted, I appreciate seeing other people's views and learning how they'd build the same commander.

@@UncommonCommander I had a klothys deck and I had it chock full of punish effects. I had overabundance in there and it cost me some games. Now that deck was best as a stalemate breaker and wasn't competitive to the least but its impact to help myself was far outweighed by 3 other people who were accelerated and already livid at me for the amount of life i was costing them haha. I just don't want to go out of my way to load a gun and hand it to them. I love the idea of Yurlock so I converted klothys and put in a few more effects to give it a bit more of a knock out punch rather than slowly burning down the table. Once restrictions are lifted i'm curios to see how it holds up.

I was thinking about the enchantress subtheme as well, deff gonna try it! I made my TCGplayer order for this deck some hours ago and didnt include the mana doublers or the "on your () add mana to your mana pool" effects. Overabundance was just outside my budget when I was making cuts, sad times
