it took longer making the platform than to put up the yurt..... yes! I giggled when I saw the vacume!

A yurt for the rich....not the purpose at all...Mongolian yurts are more efficient and cheaper.

How many sand rolls did you go through to sand the floor down? In this fast motion it looked like 12 +. Please tell me I'm wrong

why do people build without putting insolation in the floor
@ErikAkia7 жыл бұрын
Because sometimes the intended use is not for the winter period or maybe because the climate is temperate and there is no need. In this case, they did not plan on using it in the winter and if they ever change their mind it will not be a problem to insulate the floor from underneath.
@ErikAkia7 жыл бұрын
In this case, there is enough room under the floor to install the insulation later. It will take more time and effort than to have done it in the very beginning but not huge. I left it up to the customer as to what they want to do. Plans do change but sometimes it is better to do something halfway than to never do something fully.

Hello there. Am i missing something or did i just see you put up a Yurt without any insolation . Please answer this one if possible. No SIP panels ? maybe its the climate i don't know ,please advise .
@ErikAkia6 жыл бұрын
It is more the use than the climate. The client was not planning on using the yurt in the winter and so they don't need the insulation to keep it warm. There is an option for them to insulate under the floor at a later date if that use ever changes. SIPs would have been overkill for their need. If I recall correctly there is a thin layer of insulation on the walls.

Seem to spend an enormous amount of time on the floor. I wouldn't want to be paying you by the hour!

I was going to say the same. I've seen a lot of pro carpenters go just as slow though. No Idea why. When I did construction I'd do about 300sq ft a day on a deck. Double that with a helper.

When you go to this much trouble to prepare for a structure that was designed a thousand years ago to be assembled in two hours, maybe you should just go ahead and build a house?

Couldn't you have picked a place where trees didn't have to be cut down?
@ErikAkia6 жыл бұрын
The entire lot is as wooded as what you see in the video. In this area, we do not have problems with not enough trees but the opposite. We are losing our meadows and the animals that rely on them are not doing as well. Not that cutting down the trees and building a yurt will help that problem but just to say that ecologically we are not harming the environment here by taking out a few trees.

@karoltesar8257 Жыл бұрын
@@ernststravoblofeld Well, this is not a yurt at all, but a regular house inspired by the yurt design, aka modern western yurt. Traditional mongolian yurt costs few hundred bucks, is not larger that 6,4m in diameter and you can really assemble it in 2 hours.
