Mikado pheasant, Syrmaticus mikado, is also known as "black long-tailed pheasant" in Taiwan. The total length included the tail feathers of male is about 97 cm, and it weighs about 1100 gm. Female is rather small with around 55 cm body length and 700 gm. They are one of the endemic species in Formosa with rare population. Concealing in the forest of high altitude, Mikado pheasants prefer to forage in the little rain or in the mist. Because of their glorious tail feathers and walking pose elegantly, we regard them as "the emperor in the mist forest." In order to understand the importance of nature and cherish this creature, Yushan National Park Headquarters published this DVD film to introduce their lives and habits to the world.
