That portrayal of information as power struggle is simplistic. It is moreso that it affects the world and less so that one necessarily seeks power in disseminating information. Information asymmetries (panopticon, SEC concerns) are power, over some to the benefit of others, or to benefit all. Not necessarily conspiratorial. Just simply power.

As a collective, our evolution hinges on the truths we discover and share together through our actions and communication. These shared truths form the foundation of our progress. Any other information, if it isn’t part of that shared journey or isn’t relevant to our evolution, is just noise-subjective and ineffective. It doesn’t clutter or harm us because it lacks the power to shape our collective reality. The real danger is in assuming that this 'junk' information holds the same weight as the truths that genuinely contribute to our collective understanding and growth. Truth that matters is discovered in our shared experience and connection with the world.

Why don’t we have a forum that airs on a CSPAN like channel where 3 experts on each side of an issue makes an argument for their side to a panel of judges who are also experts in the field? If a topic needs several hours with intermissions, or days, those people can decide an appropriate amount of time, and then post the arguments, deliberation, and results online. That helps inform the public so we can make an informed democratic decision based on the best arguments from both sides when it comes to issues.

I resent these lies as an individual but recognize the reasons for them as a citizen. I wonder what kind of world this would be if we could only disseminate truth.

In response to religion not owning mistakes, I think the Roman church admitted in 1992 that it was wrong to condemn Galileo for his support of heliocentrism. This is a clear example of religion acknowledging an error and re-evaluating its understanding of scripture in light of scientific discoveries. The Church’s eventual recognition of its mistake demonstrates its capacity to admit fallibility and seek reconciliation with both truth and science. Quote: "The Church’s attitude to Galileo was a mistake, and for this, we must humbly recognize it." - Pope John Paul II

He clearly is a Centralist. Data is too decentralized compared to "Truth".
@TheControlBlue16 күн бұрын
It's very, very interesting.. He clearly believes in network, but I feel like he inherently thinks a network has to be centered on something. I don't think he believes a network can ever be decentralized.. If that's the case, then yes, indeed he is the anti-thesis of crypto (although his ideas are brilliant)!
@shinsyotta15 күн бұрын
@ Which ideas do you think are brilliant?
@TheControlBlue15 күн бұрын
@@shinsyotta people communicate a framework of ideas rather than the ideas themselves. That information network he is talking about. For example, the idea of "Fake News". What people mean when they talk about "Fake News" is NOT the veracity of the news, it's if it comes from the framework that creates news that they associate with.
@Jamesrwatsonx3 ай бұрын
I believe he's mistaken. The nature of most information is deeply tied to how we, as humans, function and interact. It's in our shared behaviors and collective experiences that we form an understanding of truth. Much of what we deem as true is what we share and confirm with each other. On the other hand, information that remains unshared or personal lacks the consistency to be universally true. The problem with speaking on behalf of the majority is that the speaker is always an individual, and the truth they present is inevitably limited by their personal perspective.
@DC-uc4sh3 ай бұрын
So how does this show what Harari said about information is mistaken?
@Jamesrwatsonx3 ай бұрын
@DC-uc4sh How he refers to information is horrible. To consider all information equal first off, then say how we will be misguided by it is completely wrong. Information is not equal. That's number one. Our relationship to the information as individuals is where it gets messy because that relationship as individuals we have isn't more significant than the relationship we share as a collective to information. The problem isn't in the information. The problem is in the approach to the information he takes, as do most individuals. That mindset is more about reductionism. It's linear and simply incorrect. For him to claim he cares for humanity yet has still not shown he can see out the eyes of humanity in a more holistic way, is somewhat disappointing.

Brilliantly worded and wrong. What we had in the past was not more truth but more agreement. That agreement was fueled by less information. The common current hand-wringing about the lack of agreement in our politics is due largely to the fact that people know more today but disagree about what to do about it. It's true that there is a cost to information. It's also true that debunking bad information is expensive. However, good information, that which comports well with reality, also had outsized benefits. I don't have to worry about flat-earthers because their theory means their rockets won't work and mine will. The place where we do have issues is in coming to political agreements. But the issue isn't that we don't agree but that we shouldn't expect to. On a channel like Bankless, I would expect people to agree that more decentralization is better. Let's not expect to win political points through competitive information and argument. Let's expect to test ideas against the background of the real world and let the ones that work win. Let a thousand flowers bloom. Love you guys

What holds Christianity together is Christ himself. It is the force of Christ in the spiritual world. What helped Christianity spread was people who had the christ impulse working within them to spread the word. They then passed along this impulse from the spiritual world. The thing that breaks up all Yuval's arguments is the existent of a spiritual world. He's basically a hardcore materialist. Which is easy to become nowadays, I sense Bankless hosts are also materialists. Who only believe in their biological physical processes as "truth". Elon Musk is also a well known materialist as he calls us "meat puppets". But if humanity doesn't wake up to the spiritual world, we will end up in an abyss of materialism.

No, there were multiple decades between the actual verified recorded life and death of Jesus and the writings that spread his story (the Bible etc), anything could have happened, we really have no clue cos a lot of bs and myths could arise in the decades between the actual events and the time when they were written down.. so what holds Christianity together is the STORY of Jesus Christ.
@SpiritualEvolution143 ай бұрын
@randomiseduser no, the reason there were long periods of time between the writing of the gospel and his life were the fact that the writers were initiates.
