YUZURU HANYU - Questionable GOE Scores | 2018-2020

Here are some examples from the last two season of really questionable GOE scores that Yuzuru Hanyu received for some elements.
I specifically showed in this video GOE scores that have a really big gap between the given score by each judge on the same element. In times like this, the score he is given is most likely not representing the element correctly which is really unfortunate.
Comment what do you think about it...
Hope you liked the video and don't forget to subscribe ;)

I would LOVE to see this come true but unfortunately, I don't think anyone will agree on it because of clear biases they hold towards some skaters 😒 Judges hold the power to tamper with anything so I don't think ISU higher ups will easily accept using such judging method

I mean, nearly all the judges of these examples gave Yuzu very high GOE on the other elements: CSSp. Judge gave four 5s and two 10s in PC, the most generous of all! FCSp. J4 gave two 5s and was the only one that gave a 10 in PC; J6 also gave high GOE and PC. First 4Lo. Judge was the second most generous of all. Second 4Lo. Judge was a little low overall but was also the only one that gave a 5 to Yuzu. 4Lz. Those who gave -5 were among the most generous on the other elements. And the others were more or less average, with a couple ones that were more strict. All this just to say that... I don't see anything wrong with all the goes in the video? Sometimes it happens that a judge gives a single low goe, there's no need to think that they are doing it with malice xD. It literally happens to every skater, not just Yuzu. Also, it happens that judges can make a mistake, they are human, there is so much to process and they might even just blink at the wrong moment or see a jump at a bad angle. lol

@@harry4596 what an ISU's boy! How on earth those jumps were -5 when he didn't fell at all, and he still got -3.78 GOE in total. The last judge 3 at the end literally underscored him on every elements, JUST LOOK!!!... I recently saw Nathan's FP at 2017 Worlds, he screw up the 4 Lutz and fell, but he just got an -1.9 GOE. No offense to him he is a technical wizard, i just mean ISU definitely underscored Yuzu so badly. There are no bad angles or anything, everytime he competes, there's always 1 or 2 judges underscored him. There's a lot of dramas happened occasionally with ISU's judges. Yes they are humans, and they deliberately "made mistakes" to take top skaters down. They try to show that they rule the FS world, control all the scores, such a pity org! It sucks how they do this to his scores, when he puts in so much effort to make his elements flow and perfect on execution to get great GOEs. Like in the olympics, he decided to change his program to do “easier” jumps instead of the more difficult ones due to his injury. He didnt want to have poorly executed jumps despite the high base value so he opted for the jumps he could trust more to get positive GOEs. Such a great athlete and person it’s such a shame that judges treat him like this (ugh flashback to yuna Kim in Sochi ☹️)

What piss me off about all this is that if other skater jumps and lands very underrotatedly or very overrotatedly, they are going to give that jump as a fully rotated one. However, when Yuzuru jumps and it is a bit off, they are going to give it as a under or over rotated one. This is not a bias thing. There are commentators that have pointed out this issue and have sarcastically said that it's curious how the judges haven't seen that clearly over/under rotated jump.

This is already I think it's a crime-like act. .. 😡 Yuzu is being persecuted. Certain players other than Yuzu receive oversized preferential treatment. Even if you make a mistake, it is overlooked, and GOE is gorgeous for mediocre acting. As a result, Yuzu's divine acting cannot be the same number as a mediocre skater. The ISU appeals that even if Yuzu retires, there are other alternatives, so there is no problem, but I am not interested at all.

@@taigosakai2266 Judge could just keep give lowest score just to validate the other lowest score. If the score he gave didn't make it to the scoring system, he won't care, since he dont have intention to give the athlete his score. But if his lowest score coincidentally have the same value with another judges, one of them get to the scoring system and his intention reach his goal and it's become the athlete loss. So what he actually do is not to judging the athlete, he just tried to validate the lowest score. What's more astonishing is that many of these inconsistencies in judging come from competitions held IN HIS OWN COUNTRY: Nationals, NHK, Worlds in Saitama... meanwhile, others skaters who compete in their own country always get the benefit of the doubt and very generous scores. And I am not referring to a specific skater - USA, Russia, China, France... they all score the same when it comes to skaters from their home. 2019 Gran Prix Series in the men field was living proof of that.

You did a wonderful job making this video. It was very informative and easy to understand. An element should never be given GOE with such a huge discrepancy between the judges' scores. And some of these GOEs are just flat out unfair; the judges have a rulebook which includes GOE bullets that tell them how to score an element. For example, his 4Lz at 4CC should've been given -3 (-4 at most, but -3 is more reasonable with the jump's textbook takeoff and fantastic height + distance). It never should've received -5 from a judge, let alone from two of them. They were acting like it was a fall instead of a hand down and step out. All you need is a basic understanding of the rulebook to understand that the 4Lz didn't deserve -5 GOE. And this is also true of many other examples.

Tbh I think that’s why there are so many voices asking for Russia to be allowed to compete and for the Americans who can’t politically correctly say that, trying to push IM far above what he is due. They are desperately searching for a white version of Yuzu or a Jason/Nathan combo. I’m not saying IM might not one day become it but he is definitely not it yet. Athletes live a tough life, it was never gonna be easy to keep young people in rich countries interested when they don’t make much and $$$ is in your face every day on social media.

After Yuzuru won the second gold at the 2018 Olympic game, his scores have been "deliberately" lowered. There was a news report that one Chinese judge was bribed to give him lower scores in favor of a Chinese skater. There were a couple of commentators who noticed the lower scoring by one "xx" judge, always making note of that judge when Yuzuru's jumps were not perfect. There should be no reason to give him a minus score when his jump was not perfect yet he did not fall or touched his hand on the ice. It should be a deduction pin the TSE, but not on GOE. Obviously Yuzuru's rating based on scores was deliberately manipulated. Remember that there was the similar scandal of the Russian judges who were receiving money from the Russian Federation of Skating along with one of famous coaches. Similar thing may be happening in one or two of judges.

As much as I want Yuzuru Hanyu-sama to continue competing and blessing us with his grace and artistry through his performances, I would rather have him retire early than be disrespected like what these biased judges are doing. I know that YH is mentally strong for these kinds of treatment, but after some time self-doubt will catch up to him. And there's no worse feeling in the world than doubting your own capabilities. I literally cry everytime he belittles himself in his interviews. He doesn't deserve this! To the people who are doing this to him, you are all ingrates! YH made a big contribution to the FS scene and this is how you repay him? Come on! If you want him out of the game, just ban him from competing or whatsoever. Exactly! that's why he has no desire to compete anymore b/c he knows they will not let him win against the feds overscored pets (Nathan, Shoma, Yuma, Ilia) no matter what, and that's why Brian Orser recently said "Yuzu is in great condition right now, in fact, better than ever, and fully capable of winning any competition, IF scored fairly". Unfair scoring is the reason he left competitions, not the health, age or injuries... as we all can see he can do as many SOLO ice shows as he wants, with 8-9 even 12 programs, 28-30 jumps, 7-9 quads, 6-7 triple axels, 3-4 biellmann spins and tons of very difficult artistic signature moves, in 1.5 to 2.5 hour long ice shows... What's the point of wasting your time and efforts into something where your efforts are not appreciated and rewarded, instead humiliated by underscoring, that's why he said "from now on, I want to perform only for the people who appreciate my skating". Shame on ISU for forcing him to retire, their loss. Fans are happy that he got rid of corrupt union, and doing great as a Pro athlete. Best wishes for his next solo ice show starting from ''Saitama super arena'' and good to see ISU struggling to fill their empty seats.

@@FIyYuzu I'm not sure we can say he has no desire to compete anymore. Maybe desire he still has, only he has no platform for it. He was and he is very competitive imo. But he is smart enough to know that under current circumstances he has no chance to win. He as a professional skater already achieved many things nobody ever did before and will not be able to achieve in the foreseeable future. Kids can learn to jump all the quads (although the JGP2023 shows that this is not so easy for them) but nobody seems to have the personality and character which can unite a fandom so huge and loyal what Yuzuru Hanyu has. He had filled Tokyo Dome to the brim and he will fill Saitama Super Arena too. And there's more to come. This was only his first year as a professional. For GIFT, your numbers a bit vague. 😉 Here are the correct ones: The show was 2.5 hours in duration and his net skating time was 41 minutes 10 seconds. 35K watched it in person and another 30K in cinemas through live streams He skated 12 program parts in 12 different costumes including a full Rondo under competition circumstances with 6 mins warmup. He jumped 7 quads, 6 triple axels and 11 other triple jumps. He also had 16 spins, 5 StSq, 3 ChSq and 17 other types of field moves. I hope ISU will sink financially, together with JSF because they deserve that fate. Corruption will eat up that sport. And Yuzuru Hanyu will shine and prosper because he deserves that. 🤞

Some of these really don’t make sense. Like when there are consistent 4s and even 5s in the GOE but then there’s a 1 and 0.... There’s clearly something wrong especially when the jump is executed well. For the ones the overall got low GOEs I can understand why they think it could potentially receive 1s, 0s and -1s whilst all the other gave a +1, +2 and possibly +3. It’s obvious for those ones that the execution wasn’t that great, but how bad it was to receive certain GOEs are subjective. And those ones I can understand but when there’s no obvious issues and when other judges grade them as high GOEs of 4 & 5 then there’s either an issue others don’t see or they are trying to pull his score down. Just my opinion. But overall Yuzu is an amazing performer and I will keep supporting him for his love and passion for skating!

I think in many cases there are very low by one judge, but very high from others. Some give a step out -5 while others give shaky landing with loss of flow a 3 which also isn't right. In the end they drop the lowest and highest anyways, so I think it ends up working out for GOEs. Its the unneeded UR calls, and his PCS that is being primarily underscored. No reason he shouldn't be getting 10s for Skating skills, performance, composition, transitions etc.

This was so frustrating to watch. Seriously, how can ISU have two judges who look at the same element and have one give it the highest score while the other one thinks its worthless? Either they're blind, incompetent, or corrupt, and any of those three should have them removed. What's worse is the fact there's no penalty to judges conspiring to dock scores, not a single judge has been banned from the sport even if they've clearly under or over-scored skaters to rig the results. Yuzuru actually wrote a thesis about using AI to judge the technical elements, and I completely agree. Tracking software can accurately judge whether or not an element has been executed correctly and has no bias, which would stop human judges from giving technically perfect elements zero points and then giving other skaters points for cheated jumps that should be invalidated. Artistry and presentation is more subjective, but it's unbelievable that judges can really just input any score regardless of common sense, and receive no punishment for blatant cheating. And every skater has been robbed, not just Yuzuru. The sport and its athletes deserve better!

My thoughts: 1. CCoSp ● Good speed and/or acceleration during spin ✔ ● Good controlled, clear position(s) (inc. height and air/landing position in flying spin) ❌ Wobbly landing on jump sit. ● Effortless throughout ❌ wobby landing on jump sit. ● Maintaining a centered spin ✔/❌ bit of travel after the landing on the jump sit so depends on judge. ● Creativity and/or originality ✔ cool arm position on sit positions ● Element matches the music ✔/❌ yes and no. Not particularly matched to the phrasing but kinda fit with 'sparkly' vibe of the music so depends on individual judge. So +2 to +4 - Poor fly is -1 to -3. I'd only take -1 for the wobbly landing so +1 to +3. So based on the 2 × +4s and the 2 × +5s it would be overscored not under. 2. 4Lz ● Very good height and very good length ✔ ● Good take-off and landing ✔/❌ it was a tad short (only 1/8th) so depends on judge ● Effortless throughout ✔/❌ I can see some judges giving him this point but it really didn't have the effortless look of his gorgeous jumps, plus a bit of spray on the landing ● Steps before the jump, unexpected or creative entry ❌ a single mohawk isn't enough to get this point ● Very good body position from take-off to landing ✔/❌ didn't have his usual gorgeous extension so could go either way ● Element matches the music ❌ no he lands it in the middle of a continuous chord. There's no accentuation in the music when he lands it for it to be matched to. So +1 to +4 - less than a quarter missing -1 so could be 0 to +4. 3. 3A+1Lo+3S The 3S was short, he was off-axis, the landing was poor and had no speed coming out of it. The judges who gave that a +4 or +5 must have been on crack. Hanyu is a truly amazing skater and frequently does fantastic elements, however, not everything he does it perfect.

I really don't get why there are people that would give other individuals low score for such an obvious amazing work. I mean, if they deserve 100%, then give them 100%. If not, then not. Just because their work is somewhat out of this world and like inhumane because it's amazing, it is not an excuse to degrade that individual just to set the normal humanly average. Like wtf? If they perform their work in such an amazing and beautiful way, it's because they practice and trained hard for it. Whatcha gonna do about it if that's their way in exceeding their limitations.

I noticed that in the new scoring system, the BV of the those difficult Quad jumps has much reduced while the percentage of GOE scores increase significantly. This would widen the gap of the skater's scores significantly if you make any mistake in the jump. The new scoring system put a lot of emphasis on the execution rather than the difficulty of the jump. It seems to imply that "It's not worth doing the difficult jumps if you cannot execute them successfully."

Awesome video, i'm excited for more content! it's frustrating to see many of his perfect elements be tampered with by the judges. With that said, however, I have some *possible* explanations for the anomalies: 2:16 - he was quite off balance on the landing, J4 definitely noticed that. However, +0 is way too low, +2 would've made more sense 2:51 - he traveled quite a bit at this moment, J4 and J6 may have noticed this. It made sense for them to give lower GOE 4:20 - this landing was not good, so with deductions probably +0 or +1 would be acceptable 5:25 - he had weak landings on both jumps, imo the low GOEs were justified, not sure about the high ones 6:50 - i think a step out deducts -3 GOE and an underrotation deducts -2 GOE? either way, thank god that the highest and lowest GOE point gets removed because otherwise it would be even worse
