That part! I get that they go on a show involving critiques but that's just such an outrageous claim about literally anybody. Who knows you better than you? I can understand that from *some* queens in regular seasons, but we are talking about WINNERS of the show who get to experience a wide range of different work opportunities for years at this point, they wouldn't be as successful if they didn't knew who they are and what they can offer.

It's a jarring critique for most, if not all, queens in the show. I can't imagine ru girls not having a solid base and self knowledge of themselves as artists when they are cast. To say this of a winner like Yvie (that they invited back) is the same as saying they don't know her and they were wrong to crown her. Would a show as big and competitive as drag race crown a queen that doesn't know herself and her work as an artist? Of course not, a queen like that would probably not even be cast in the first place! It's a disrespectful critique that makes no sense.

@@kev7600 what do you mean? I agree with you. My reply wasn't for you; it was for the original poster. I don't believe that the judges specifically singled out Yvie because they had something against her. I believe that the criticisms she received were most likely mostly warranted, even if she is convinced otherwise. IMO, her performance in the show was not up to par with most of the other queens. Her outfits were often lackluster, and when it came to challenges, for the most part, she just simply couldn't live up to the standards that the other queens were setting. The producers were very gracious with the edit they gave her. They made it look like all queens were contenders, when the reality is that a couple of them fell short. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she did horribly, but imo, when you tally up the 'scores' for all of the performances throughout the season, she came in last - or second to last - place.

After learning I also had ehlers danlos syndrome while season 11 was airing Yvie became my Zebra Queen. I was so excited to learn she was coming back for AS7 for more people to learn about EDS and how Yvie copes with frequent subluxation, pain and the decline of flexibility as she gets older. While the tricks she does are fun to watch, I'm 20 years older than Yvie and I know first hand how difficult it is going from being able to do stuff to not. I empathise with her journey as a Zebra and the edited version showed none of what trying to be a Drag queen with a disability was like for Yvie. She will forever be my Zebra Queen and inspiration. Her mind the way she processes is phenomenal and I wish her much strength as she continues her journey and adapting her drag for what her body can manage.

Fully second this as someone with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome the same condition Yvie has (we’ve actually spoken about it to each other both on social media and on FaceTime during my friends M&G, i’d been in hospital for 6-7 months at that point and had to have hella traumatic emergency surgery the night before at like 3am and my friend had a m&g with a few of the DR queens and during her one with Yvie she told them about me and how i was really going through it and Yvie told her to FT me and literally her pep talk had both my mum and my 1:1 nurse in tears and me obviously also bawling, she also had a sweatshirt & print mailed to me too) so literally for them to “not understand who Yvie is etc” a beautiful person and you can’t put a price on that nor manipulate any scenario to change people’s perception of Yvie no matter how fkin hard production tried and if people STILL dont get that go watch Yvie’s Werq The World episode, anyone that has a heart and most especially people with a disability/someone close to your heart does you’ll never feel more validated/understood/ emotionally moved watching that episode- it’s infuriating people dont see Yvie for just how phenomenal they are and tbh that episode really does show just how much giving it 1010% takes especially when Yvie doesn’t have 110% like most other queens, no matter how hard they push through it; ehlers danlos reminds you constantly the consequence of every push💔

That critique they gave to Yvie.... its the kind of critique you gave to people in 5-6th place that need a push to realize their own identity. Not to a winner. They probably got bs nonsensical critiques over and over again and she popped.

@@1bwash thats irrelevant tho. They were not asking her about what she has done irl after her win, they were asking her why she is not "growing", which from the runway alone we can already see the massive glow up. Not only that, if they were not sure about her identity, then how could she won over brooklyn then ? The critique's just dont make sense because in a way, they are saying the whole season 11 lose to someone that have no identity on their creative work and no grow. That being said, to answer your question, she was touring, just like every winners do. She even participated in drag race live in vegas. I remember she got a lot of positive feedback on social media for how good she was in vegas. She had a bit break because of her genetic condition/disease. But sadly covid got to her trajectory after her break and making it unable for her to be back, thats why her and Jaida often being compared because both of them didnt get to work with the other queens as much, or not able to produce big project on their own. That being said, I also vaguely remember that Yvie said she didnt get her prize money for quite some time. So that also hindered her drag trajectory. And unlike some of her season 11 competitors, she was unknown and poor, and after she got fame, covid happened and WOW delayed her prize money.
@1bwash
@1bwash 24 күн бұрын
@@tokki2901 It's not irrelevant. The question isn't just about the competition alone because you want it to be. It's like she wants to be celebrated just for the sake of it, completely ignoring the fact that this is actually a job and what the queens are being praised for in their careers. And covid didn't happen until after season 12 already started airing, so it's just incoherent to try and blame that. Same with the prize money. She had about a year of the booking rates of a winner (which is like 5k a gig or more). It's also incoherent to compare her to Jaida. Jaida dealt with insecurities and had the worst of covid too but managed to grow from her season. Touring and doing things to punish your body isn't the only way to be successful as a drag queen. Even Ru tried to suggest that to Yvie on the runway and instead of taking things like it was meant, as advice to help, Yvie just wants to play a bitter victim.

That could be just me, or projection, but it stood out when I watched the season. I’ve had to remind myself, I’m watching the show for the Queens, because most of it is not real reality. Telling Yvie that she doesn't know who she is??! She's my favourite Queen because there is no one like her, she is a complete Artist with her own style and personality. Don't let that go to your head Yvie, you are right, they don't know what to say anymore. Love ya 💜

It's their show! It's one thing to complain, but you guys sound very dumb talking about the panel needing to be replaced. Btw, it's not against the law to have more than one drag race competition show. If you're so fundamentally disappointed with Drag Race, then look somewhere else or start something else.

@@1bwash meh it’s not that deep. But here’s what I meant. My comment was in response to what was for me, a new perspective from yvie. These are artists performing at this high high level, and I think it could be interesting and perhaps eventually necessary to have different perspectives commenting on this art. I mean, Rupaul didn’t even remember jinx’s name. I don’t buy that the current judges are invested in learning more or growing as judges themselves. It doesn’t have to be this grand thing though. I think Raja is a good example of what I mean. It’s clear she still exploring her own art and curious about what other drag queens are doing. I think her perspective on fashion photo ruview is more interesting for it.

@@samanthaconnelly4046 Do you know how many people RuPaul meets in a day? She didn't completely forget Jinkx's name, she forgot it just in the moment. BTW, this is a great example of the hypocrisy of people like you. You're not even spelling Jinkx's name right, but you're pretending to be bothered by a mistake Ru made? It's also so weird and condescending for you to be wagging your finger at Ru saying she needs to learn and grow more. The white arrogance is off the charts.

All the queens were great, but my eyes was always captured by Yvie (and Jinkx, of course). Yvie showed so many looks and skills throughout. I felt she was robbed on her last lipsync on AllStars. I mean, Raja did a good job, but I think Yvie smoked her OUT.

Yvie is one of the queens from drag race who has some of the strongest branding, but it's the branding of being a more unconventional embracing the weird type of drag queen. I think there's some judges that have no respect for other schools of drag and that's why the judging can seem unfair at times. Their knowledge or tolerance for anything that doesn't fit the mainstream mold is very limited. The treatment of Adore and the first queen to wear facial hair on the runway stick out in my mind forever as terrible judging, but then the show tried to overcorrect in later seasons by being more inclusive and doing a facial hair runway. I think the production is very self aware at this point that they have to edit out the really bad critiques from these judges even if the judges themselves are still as clueless as ever.

One of the things that made Ivy my fav drag queen of all times is that, she speaks soooo much sense. It is an incredible down to earth queen. She knows what she brings to the table. She is mature like no other in the franchise. When she opens her mouth you know you will hear truth and her opinions are not biased by emotions, all her perceptions are truly realistic

I adore Yvie. Her runways were so impressive in AS 7, and I loved seeing her on the show. I thought she was amazing in Season 11 too.She's one of my all time favorites. It's also apparent to anyone paying attention that she knows herself as an artist moreso than most artists ever do. What a stupid critique. She does things that NO OTHER DRAG ARTIST is doing. She's bringing something entirely new and unique to the form.

They were like, hanging on for dear life and not a single word from the judges haha. I figured WOW didn’t want viewers to think Ru picked the wrong people to win. They wanted to preserve that image of perfection they want to see from a winner.

what confuses me most about this AS7 story is that giving the winners these harsh critiques was only gonna make the show look bad. Like someone already said here in the comments, if these queens don't know who they are then the show was immensely wrong to crown them. Especially in Yvie's case, since her win is already so contested. My best guess to TRY to explain the situation is that they knew these comments weren't gonna be aired, and they were saying it to keep the queens pushing themselves to deliver better performances. Like, maybe production thought that if the queens were only hearing praise they would get comfortable or lazy - which I don't think is true because they're all professionals and of course they are always gonna deliver their best. So this still doesn't make perfect sense, and it's still a cruel thing to do (maybe even more cruel because of the psychological effects of thinking those words are gonna be heard by the world) but it's the best explanation I can come up with. Anyways, I feel for Yvie and I wish she knew how much she is appreciated; she is not only a fully realized artist, she's a creative genius. And reality TV is f*cked up.
@1bwash
@1bwash 2 ай бұрын
How is it cruel? That's the whole point of competitions is to have people push themselves. This isn't the Vegas show where they're just performing for entertainment, it's a competition. To act like being given constructive criticism is cruel is so ridiculous.

In a few years, when the spinoffs of drag race start to get cancelled, and the main seasons start to shrink and become farther and farther apart, we will look back at moments like this and think “Wow this show was unraveling before our eyes!”. For me there are some clear signs. 1) the sheer number of spinoffs; 2) all stars with its prize for charity, 3) the jumps from network to network and 4) this… the infighting, exposés, contestants “speaking the truth”. There are some queens, besides Yvie, who are forming a kind of subgroup, an opposition to the brand. There’s no complacency anymore. There is, especially from the fandom, but it’s not as strong as it once was. Drag Race has entered its final arc. Let’s enjoy the few good parts of it while they last.
