I like Yzma's character for sure, she's certainly not as successful as other Disney villains were, not that any really were. Yzma did have what she wanted for a time being though, and it terms of how diabolical she was I'd rank her about the same as Cruela DeVille because she has every intention of murdering Kuzco and taking the empire over, and she shows no remorse for that. She turns on Kronk, sends guards to their deaths, and has no compassion towards the people of the empire (to be fair neither does Kuzco at first), but she does show some slight remorse in the clip where she was explaining her background and her mother so she isn't all bad. I think he keeps her around because she raised him and he does feel some type of love towards her because of that. He doesn't want to banish her and certainly doesn't want to kill her so he keeps her around. She like a sort of twisted aunt to him or something.

I think Kuzco keeps Yzma around just because he's bored. Another question there could be a video on is why does Kronk keep working for her?
@pandoraheartsvd5 жыл бұрын
The fact that she practically raised him explained why kuzco was so rotten at first.If we notice in the first film they basically have the same personality.

I think Cuzco keeps Yzma around for three reasons: 1. He has a bit of a soft spot for her because she practically raised him. 2. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." (He wants to keep an eye on her.) 3. For comic relief. Because she's hilarious.

I also think it’s because he thinks the world resolves around him to some extent. Even if in the movie he “learned” that lesson, in the show he just reverts back to his old ways. I think because of the delusion that nothing bad can happen to him cause the world revolves around him. Seeing as how he constantly wins at everything and always defeats Yzma without even trying, he probably believes she will never succeed

I think it's pretty simple to deduce the connection between Kuzco and Yzma... she practically raised him and there isn't really any mention of his mother so likely his mother died earlier on, like in childbirth or something, so when the late Emperor died Yzma was basically the only parent Kuzco had. She was the only mother figure he'd ever known. Just think about it... Kuzco was ready to have Pacha imprisoned for turning him into a llama and kidnapping him and the fact that Pacha didn't like him didn't even bother him. But when he realized Yzma was trying to kill him, that's when he's at his lowest. Because the only mother figure he'd ever known hated him, wanted to kill him, didn't care about him. At the same time Yzma didn't even seem to consider trying to kill Kuzco until he fired her and even then, she gave up that idea when it turned out she only needed to ensure he failed out at Kuzco Academy to become empress. I think she also saw Kuzco almost as her own son but because the both of them have distorted views of things that type of connection or bond is also a bit distorted between them as well.

Honestly, I completely agree with your opinion of their relationship. It's something that has kept bugging me each time I re-watch/remember their movie and cartoon because frankly there were two things that never made any sense to me. 1. 'Why did Yzma never murder Kuzco's father?', if we really think about this she was in a perfect position to just kill the guy no matter how strong or loved he was because he viewed her as his most trusted councilor and even asked her to take care of his only son and future heir should he die which just proves how highly he thought of her. She was in a perfect position to backstab him but she never did and this makes me wonder if despite her ambitions to take his place as a ruler, she was loyal to him and couldn't bring herself to kill him as he recognized her worth (unlike many) or maybe due to her not wanting to deprive a baby from their only living parent? Or maybe she was even already close to baby Kuzco and couldn't bring herself to do kill his father? 2. 'Why didn't she just kill Kuzco as a baby?' this is pretty cold to say of course but she would have had no hassle whatsoever to just stage the baby getting ill and dying (aka poison him but make it look natural) as she is his only real caretaker and while people might suspect her, there is no doubt she could have played the act of a grieving heartbroken mother-figure flawlessly if she needed to. Instead, knowing fully well that said baby will grow up to be someone she will have to get rid of for the sake of her ambitions, she - raises him, educates him, takes care of him, does not deprive him of anything he asks for (he cannot possibly have ended up as spoilt as he was if she was more strict on him) and ultimately ends up loving him as her own son because she frankly truly raised him. The way I see it, I think she purposefully created a barrier in her mind in regards to him because she always knew she would have to kill him so while she loved him as her own, she forced herself to constantly think of him as 'the emperor's son' rather than hers so she would eventually be capable of killing him to take his throne permanently. This likely also transferred over to how she treated Kuzco as she tried to emotionally distance him from herself once he grew up somewhat so she would be 'his councilor' in his mind rather than 'mother' due to her stifled guilt over the looming betrayal in the future (I mean hers). I also had to wonder if she alongside her fury and disbelief she felt betrayed by Kuzco when he fired her, after all she had done for him (and lets face it she truly did rule the empire for quite a few years while Kuzco was growing up and must have been fairly good at it to keep it together as an acting regent, even if she didn't truly care for the people and treated them badly). So I do agree that the moment he fires her is actually the moment her feelings take a backseat to her ambitions completely, especially if she already felt betrayed by him thus why should she keep showing him compassion and care?
@PurpleTigerGirl16194 жыл бұрын
@@amayamarian6657 Those are some interesting points and I think a possible answer for why Yzma didn't kill Kuzco's father could be because, as I already theorized, he was a widow; maybe she had actually hoped to seduce him and become empress by marriage. Of course Kuzco points out that Yzma is older but come on, he's a stuck up, spoiled and self absorbed 18yr old, the type of jerk that probably would consider anyone over thirty to be prehistoric. Heck maybe Yzma even developed some actual feelings for the late emperor and that ultimately led to an attachment to Kuzco that she did try to store away in a mental box because obviously there's going to be a possibility of having to off him in the future. As far as not killing Kuzco as a baby there's one really good reason for keeping him around, if he was still practically a baby when his father died then depending on how the empirial succession worked she may not have had any other way to assume the throne or even keep her place in the palace without little Kuzco. If there was an older family member or any way anyone else could have claimed right to the throne at the time then her best play was to go with the fact that Kuzco was named successor by his father the late emperor and she was appointed his guardian by said late emperor and do whatever was necessary to protect Kuzco and secure the throne for him because there would be no guarantees that a new emperor or empress wouldn't have them both either banished or executed to secure the throne for themselves. Another reason is that she could have tried to raise the young emperor to be loyal to her and maybe either rule the empire using Kuzco as a figure head or just kill him off when he's older and she has insured that she could be next in line for the throne. And it makes sense that Yzma had ruled as a sort of regent for some time since nobody seems to question it when she's trying the run the empire behind Kuzco's back and taking over as empress when he's assumed dead.

Originally, during production, back when ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ was called ‘Kingdom of the Sun, Yzma wanted to take over the empire just to get rid off the sun, because she believes that was the reason for her ugliness. So she turns Emperor Manco(Kuzco) into a llama(on purpose this time), takes over as empress, and uses her dark magic to summon Supai, the Inca god of the underworld, to destroy the sun. But her plans fail all thanks to Pacha and Manco(Kuzco).

Why Yzma is not dead or in prison? Probably for two reason: 1 - Kuzco sentiment towards her, after all she is the closest thing to a mother that he had...and family can be a very complicated thing 2 - For all her evil plan, she is probably a very skilled administrator and seeing pre-growing Kuzco; it's clear that she is really running the empire even if the Emperor get all the fame.

I was about 13 when "The Emperor's New Groove" came out in theaters and immediately, I was drawn to Yzma. Here was this woman who, due to her age, obviously had a past and who was far more intelligent than the spoiled child she was forced to be subordinate to, and yet all the same, there she was as simply "the emperor's advisor". Yzma sparked my interest so much I actually wrote a fan fiction detailing what I imagined her backstory to be, and what happened to her after the events of "The Emperor's New Groove". In short, as a young woman, Yzma began work at the palace as a healer, using her medicines for good. Her skill, smarts, and beauty caught the eye of the prince and they became lovers. But when the prince eventually ascended the throne, he abandoned Yzma to take a wife of noble heritage and Yzma resented him for that, vowing to never forgive him for it. The newly-crowned emperor and his empress, of course, had a son: Kuzco. And he, naturally, was the spitting image of his father. After Kuzco's parents both passed away, Yzma was left in charge of the boy and raised him to be a selfish brat unprepared for the full responsibility of the throne out of spite. Following the events of "The Emperor's New Groove", Yzma, restored to human form and in exile, faked her own death so the empire would no longer think of her as a threat, then she sat back and watched as the arrival of Spanish colonialism began to crumble Kuzco's empire. And when she had waited long enough and the chance arose, she finally slayed Kuzco. Her revenge complete, she started life over, far away, living out her last years using her knowledge of potions for good once again. And yes, I wrote this when I was 13--dark, I know. But on the bright side, Eartha Kitt liked it. I sent a copy to her, along with a letter telling her how much Yzma had inspired me, and she was kind enough to respond encouraging my writing. I'll always be grateful to her for that.

Thank you for sharing this with me. We are sending your story to our people at Disney from a child of great imagination. Thank You, Eartha Kitt (Yzma)" I never heard from Disney, and indeed don't even know if she really sent my story to them or was just saying so to be encouraging. I did try to send it to them myself several times but received a reply from them which included the line, "While we're happy to hear you enjoy writing, Disney has rules that don't allow us to accept ideas from outside sources". Which to me seems hilariously hypocritical, given that most of their movies are based on others' pre-existing works, but I digress. About a year or two after I received Ms. Kitt's letter and my failed attempts to get Disney's attention, they came out with "Kronk's New Groove". Needless to say, I was furious. I still haven't seen it, just on the principle of it all.

Perhaps with that, he still finds some significants of Yzma in his life to not let her go. Also, YES, YZMA IS THE MOST HILARIOUS VILLAN EVER!!!!!!!!
@mcmptn Жыл бұрын
My theories: 1. At first Kuzco is so deluded that he thinks no one would actually plot against him because everyone loves him, so even though Yzma's annoying at times, he has no reason to fear her. Besides, Kuzco doesn't care about his people and just wants to have fun, so why not keep Yzma around and let her attend those boring meetings or read over those long decrees full of legal jargon or whatever else the emperor has to do (or pawn off on someone else to do)? And so what if she has a secret lab? Maybe she's just trying to be a high priestess or something, and she can make sure the gods stay happy with him and grant him a long reign and not cause drought or anything else that would require him to assist peasants, or perhaps she uses her secret lab to cause the disappearance of people that Kuzco doesn't like. However, even though she's been convenient to have around to avoid responsibilities, she's started overstepping her bounds and taking on too much authority, especially without Kuzco's consent, so she has to get fired. 2. By the end of the first movie, Kuzco is convinced that Yzma's not much of a threat anymore because she's a kitten, and he's a human. 3. By the end of "Kronk's New Groove," Kuzco is still unaware of what Yzma's been doing, and he doesn't much care, as long as she stays out of his way. 4. For "The Emperor's New School," Kuzco isn't technically the emperor yet, so it seems he lacks the authority to boot her out. 5. When all is said and done, he realizes she'd probably find a way to escape prison, so he should keep an eye on her or have her executed. But then living in humiliation would be a worse fate for her than death, so he lets her keep her life and her freedom, but she's now demoted. At this point, Kuzco is also thinking, "All she ever does is turn me into animals, and that's only temporary. If I get rid of her and hire someone else, the person replacing her might actually be smart enough to succeed at killing me."

There’s also Yzma’s father, who is sang about a little in a deleted number called “Snuff out the Light”. Her father was the royal mortician, and that’s how she learned about eternal youth through her fathers ‘experiments’(?) or his “magic tricks” as she told.

In the prototype of Emperor's New Groove, the more serious: Kingdom of the Sun Yzma had a song which ended up on the movie soundtrack, in which she speaks of her father who was the royal mortician IE the person charged with preparing mummification and royal funerals. Though this is no longer cannon it explains how she learned of potion making and was able to get a job in the imperial court.

Kusco seems to keep Yzma around because he sees her as part of his family, despite all her evil flaws and plots against him. It's nice to see that he is forgiving and willing to give Yzma a chance, but still punishes her when she goes too far. That and his ego.

Man, I love Yzma! The reason I think Kuzco keeps her around is something she said herself: she practically raised him. To him even though they’ve never had a healthy family dynamic he obviously still cares for her on some level. She may be treasonous, but especially at the end of the TV show he probably thinks that he’s gotten a handle on foiling her schemes to the point he can keep her around without any real danger. So he does.
@JuustoSnagero5 жыл бұрын
I think he kept yzma around since she did raise him so he might see her as a weird mom who wants power. But still kinda like a mom. Or an auntie. Since yzma did keep him safe and alive for so many years he knows that deep down yzma isn't really out to hurt him, she just wants the empire

I think it’s worth noting that in Yzma’s song, “Snuff Out the Light” Yzma says her father was the Royal Mortician and that she was apprenticed to him, and planned to use his “tuition” to reverse the effects of aging on herself, and strongly implied he used magic on the royal corpses as a preservation technique. If her family were a line of Morticians, given that they’re a preindustrial society, it’s highly likely that anything used to preserve corpses that could be defined as magic was more than likely a toxin of one form or another (arsenic comes to mind). So, in short, it’s entirely possible that her familial obsessions and skills in chemistry come from embalming, a side effect of which may have been madness.

If only Yzma was the one to break her family role of evil she could have been the most intelligent and loved woman in her land, Seen as a mother to Kuzco (because she basically raised him) and a revered Chemist who can cure any ailment
One main thing we can say about Yzma is that if she wants something she won't stop until she gets it. Very persistent we can give her that

Has anyone heard Snuff Out the Light? It was a cut song so if it really counts is hard to say, but it fits in and is about her relationship with her father. According the lyrics her father was the royal mortician who also knew dark magic that he taught her. It's really worth listening to if you've not heard it, I love Eartha Kitt.

When I was a kid, watching the Emperor's New Groove, Yzma was the one villain in film that I could still so heavily relate to, that I ended up not even liking Kuzco. As an adult, this totally rings true, still. She's just out here doing her best to please her mom and her family, she's intelligent, sassy, and the best comedic relief of the entire cast.

I especially love her diabolical character and that she has such fun secret passages into her secret labs (wish I could ride them though. Disney should SO make a ride like that in Dinsey World). I think because Yzma raised Him. He kinda see Yzma as a crazy mother figure. No matter what she she does deep down he love her. He took care of him when she could have just killed as a young boy and took over. When you think of it would have be very easy if she would have done that. However, I think that Yzma cares for him even though she doesn't want to and try to fight against that feeling of somewhat motherhood. After all she did raise him. However, I also think as time went on she realized that she had to put all of affection for him away if she was ever to get what she wanted in life. So, she turns her back on him and choice to try to take his power as her own and undermined him but fails time and time again which only Makes her more and more angry. Until she can't take it anymore and try to kill him.

I got a theory on why her looks on pictures look "less attractive " than when she drank from the fountain of youth: Braces! basically, let me explain: When she was originally young she didn't have the bone structure or teeth exactly on the good spots so she had to use them, her acne well, with hormones and the lack of self-awareness on skin care plus not having develop her fashion sense (which many of us get by actively trying to improve our looks). When she got the potion her face structure and teeth were already on the right place, her skin was already clean and she didn't spend that much young to suffer again from acne or she already had her own beauty creams to reduce them plus makeup.
