It's true there's again much adhesive but this time you seemed to get rid of it quite easily. The screen is glued but there's not need to remove it in order to access other parts. Those batteries however need some easypeelsy strips. Never blame screws when they replaced glue. The usb port is on a separate board so easier/safer to replace. For me is a 5/10

@@Raja995mh33 Pulltabs are worse, cause when you actually need to replace the battery (like two years after you bought the phone) they have become brittle and they snap even with really careful pulling. And since they result in the adesive being concentrated along two lines instead of being all over the battery, it's much harder to dissolve the adhesive with the solvent method.
@MeowThingy4 жыл бұрын
I believe this phone deserves a repairability score higher than 3. You cited zealous use of adhesive as the only reason for keeping it so low, but mentioned in the beginning of the video that there was so little adhesive you almost didn't require an opening pick. By the looks of things the battery was also much easier to remove. From what I saw it was pulled straight up rather than pried, and didn't show any denting or creases that would suggest you needed to pry it out with excessive force. So to me it looks like they improved a lot with their use of adhesive, especially since you said so yourself. There's so many modular components, screws aren't mixed and matched to require different sizes and bit shapes to remove a single part, and by the end of the video you'd forgotten that you informed us you can actually purchase a service manual for the phone. That alone should add two points to the repairability score. It deserves at least a five or six. The use of some glue under the battery shouldn't knock seven points off of the repairability score when, since it was the only listed downside, everything else seemed perfectly fine. I'm fully aware that batteries don't need to be glued in, and I don't like when they're glued in either, but seven points off is a bit harsh unless you have some other downsides you didn't make note of.

It’s great to see Samsung build more modular devices, but I feel like the repair ability score is a little harsh. Honestly, the only issue seems tk be with Adhesive the screen and no appealing batteries, but it seems like the screen comes off easily. I recently fixed several Samsung galaxy S 10 E‘s, but the trouble is that the adhesives are much more firm and closely connected to wireless chargers and other components so that prying the back cover and screens could damage the whole component. That one deserved a low repair ability score only because the parts were less modular and required more tools. This phone seems like a wonder to fix And disassemble. Kudos to Ifixit for this review, and Samsung for making phones actually repairable.

Still don't understand why they can't put gorilla glass on the 2 halves and then lay the plastic protective coating that's on it now in the middle and use temperature or a bonding agent to make it blend seamlessly. I know the razor's screen moves to minimize the crease in the screen but from what I've seen the fold doesn't so the 2 sides could be solid almost eliminating the delicate area and allowing the use of a s-pen.

Still not sure about calling it a “glass” screen when the part you touch still scratches just as easily as plastic, but it’s good to see them still working on making it better. Find a way to make the screen hold up as well as a glass display on a traditional phone and get rid of the crease (and make it cheaper lol) and these folding phone might actually become something other than a small niche device
@KIIJJY69694 жыл бұрын
It has a screen protector on top of the glass
@dragon81heart4 жыл бұрын
Kijjjy yeah I remember when Zach did his durability test on it. And you can’t remove the screen protector. So while there is a form of glass in the screen, you never actually touch it and it doesn’t do anything really useful 🤷🏻♂️ Still, they are trying and that the point I was getting at. Right now they will not be anything more than a niche device but a few more years of development and someone is bound to figure it out. And then these might just be good enough to catch on mainstream (well when the price goes down lol) I’m not really trying to knock the Fold, just know not to buy into marketing fluff (like for example Apples Sapphire glass for example is no better than regular glass lol) One day someone will figure out a real answer to a folding screen that will hold up and not scratch, but until then we have to deal with marketing fluff lol
