Alternatively, you could pick a test tone to download or play on youtube (although compression might make that less viable) to give you that constant hum of bass you seek when sub crawling.
@paulv84535 жыл бұрын
Paul Helsel My RSL Speedwoofer is super boomy right at 50 Hz. Looks like I may need to play a 50 Hz test tone while doing the sub crawl to see where it’s more flat sounding across the frequencies.

@@paulv8453 but it maybe where ur putting the sub which makes it boomy at 50hz
@paulv84534 жыл бұрын
@@abielpangga6314 It absolutely was where I was placing it. I did the sub crawl & took care of the problem. I couldn’t believe this method until I tried it. Amazing! My sweet spots are on either left or right side of the room near the wall. I’m looking to purchase a second one soon 👍

Thanks for this educational- Actually, it was a fun video, Zeos. So this must be what it's like when your cat listens to your stereo. And sheesh, that's a huge subwoofer! I got so sick of doing the subwoofer crawl. So now I do the subwoofer walk instead. That's right, my subwoofer is five and a half feet off of the ground. I just stack it on top of the speakers I don't use.

+Z Reviews --- The BASS in modern music goes down as far as 30Hz, the 'wavelength' of 30Hz is 37.5 feet (divide that by 'Pi', 3.14) -- that's a 'bubble' or sphere of 12 foot in DIAMETER;; so if the longest dimension of your listening room is less than 12 foot, then you are not going to be able (no matter how expensive your 'subwoofer' is) to 'hear' 30Hz in that room --- on the other hand, if you left the door to that room open and went out into the hallway, or up the stairs, or some other part of the house, THEN you would hear that LOW bass ---- and so would your neighbours.....in the next street!

That was a good line. "If you know good bass, this is an easy test". I am quite new to this and have not heard much. Any pointers of how I could find the right spot? Also, have you tried using one of those Bluetooth transmitters to make a Sub Woofer wireless? Any DIY possible on that?
@ZReviews9 жыл бұрын
+Shobhit Mathur There are a handful of wireless sub solutions but nothing DIY I can think of. The right spot you will know when you hear it doing the crawl.
@shobhitmathur56869 жыл бұрын
Okay, let me try it out. Right now my 8" sub placed in a corner gives everyone a headache. Just cant find a way to tighten up the bass.
@shobhitmathur56869 жыл бұрын
Okay I tried moving it around and weirdly it sounds much tighter when placed right in front of the TV equidistant from both the front speakers. This is almost in the center from the front wall. Also, flicking the Phase switch to 180 from 0 made a huge difference. It made the sub sound nice and deep. Have left it at that for now. Audyssey never picked on it as being out of phase when the switch was set to 0 in the same location. Could you explain whats happening here, only if you have the time. Thank You again for all the great videos.

this is the best way i can describe it.. only 3 years too late. If you play a song that has sustained bass notes e.g. longer than a drum kick, you want to be able to hear the sustained low frequency. When you do the crawl or walk around a room and notice the bass output decrease, that "sustained note" sounds like a drum kick and it's not fulfilling the bass extension and therefore sounds muddy. it's like the bass wants to be there but you can't hear it. For example: if the bass note in the song is "bassssssssssssssssssss bassssssssssssssssssssss but you hear bass bass, then you are missing that full low frequency range. Hope this helps. For low bass try walking away from the source a good distance and you will definitely notice a change in sound resulting in nice sounding bass.

Should it matter what direction the port faces? For my 10" CV sub, it has a 4" port on the rear of the box, and the driver faces the other direction. So, when I set up to do the crawl in my computer room, should I face the driver where my head would be facing or the port that way?

Zeos I like this video. I'm moving into a new apartment soon and I will definitely do this with my sub. This seems to be more of an art than a science without measuring equipment. Do tweeters and midrange. Couple years late I know but maybe revisiting your basics would be good??? It'd be good for me now.

Room corners don't act as a horn that amplifies the sound. The sound waves build up more in corners because there are more surfaces for the sound to bounce off and collide with other waves and are added together. You won't hear the same amplitude standing in the middle of the room as you would if you were in a corner.
@deeppurplefan2 жыл бұрын
Corners are 1/8th space a +3db gain over against a wall 1/4th space which is +3db over an open area half space. Look it up. Room modes are another thing, then there is also room gain.

how do you know the difference between “clean” bass and “boomy” bass? i’ve always done the crawl and picked the spot which sounds the deepest but it sounds to me like that is considered “boomy.” i also have a SVS SB12NSD which is sealed and an Emotiva Basx S8 which is ported so it’s really hard to find the “sweet” spot when one plays a little deeper then the other

Just did it in my room. I've combined my bedroom with my mini homecinema, unfortunately i can't do anything about which room i can have my homecinema in. Just did the subcrawl, but unfortunately i can't get a reasonable place to put the sub to get best possible sound for the listeningposition. I've got a pretty small bedroom so not many possibilities. where i've got my screen i've also got my computer and desk, it sounds great there, so its nice when im listening to music, but its not optimal for movies.

Hello again Z! I'm going for the 2.2 setup, with JBL 530s with 2x JBL 250P subs. Is it a problem if I use a stereo amplifier that doesn't have digital bass management( CXA80)? Will the sub woofer crawl be enough for good results? How much more a difference does an amplifier with bass management and microphone measurements make? Hope to hear your advice! best regards

The sound system is more for music listening then home cinema. I just don't know if its silly to install dual subs with out bass management and if i should just change my current amp for a one with bass management capabilities.Is the investment for bass management worth it? Whats your advice?
