That's the point. Right in the beginning. I had a subwoofer. And i changed about 10 rooms before i got it to work like i wanted. And now every subwoofer works fine in that room. It's 32 feet by 19 feet. 10 meters by 6 meters. Yes it's big, it's my house's attic, yes i go there to listen to music, it's freezing in the winter, it's extremely hot in summer, but it SOUNDS GREAT. And that's what makes the bass go WOW. Below 35Hz, no resonatatin, no bass bumps, no nothing. In my small rooms, nothing, i mean nothing worked. Even a 5000$ speakers made bass bumps at some frequencies. The bigger the room, the better the sound.

I have dual SVS SB3000 s. New design came out in November. 800 RMS 2500 peak. 13 inch sealed. Super on music. I don't think they really give up much at all to the PB 3000 for movies. I have an average to bigger living room. I have the smaller version of the OHM speakers, the Micro Walsh Talls crossed over at 100, using the Outlaw Rr2160 receiver. IMHO sounds great.

the lowest frequencies may have nothing to do with music but everything to do with reality. that is the sound of the rooms and establishment of space. notice that the spatiality of a given recording increases greatly with the addition of subs that extend to the 14Hz range (the Rythmiks). once the microphone is opened and before the first note of music, you can hear the recording space. ...hifitommy

hey zeus that's real nice this idea to place the subwoofer in the place you'd be sitted, andd it works just fine, but if you notice, the best places you selected are exactly where the first room modes are most easily excited, the corners of the room. When you say that there are no software capable of calculating room acoustics, that's not really acurate, the state of the art in room acoustic simulators even let you walk arround the room and listen as if you were really there, that's kinda what I do for a living

Even for Home Theater application, it does not reach down to 20 Hz but since I use only JBL lsr306 MkII for my application so I can live with it. Compromise, my friend.

Speakers, ofcourse matter because if you have some tiny 4 inch speakers, they cant keep up with like a pb 1k or other 300+ watt rms subs. Another thing that you said, about the sub size is also controversial. Because a high quality 18 will beat any 10 inch. Because a high quality subs have high xmax, good sensitivity and large cone area. 1 18 inch subwoofer that does 20 mm of xmax will produce the same spl as 5 18 inches that travel 2 mm xmax. If you want to look further into subwoofers or get any advice, visit avsforum, the worldst best audioforum.

I have a two questions, 1. What constitutes as a small/normal/big room? my room is 6' 11" H 13' D 10' 1" W or 2.01m H 3.96m D 3.01m W this is a bedroom, so there's a queen size bed and all of that stuff taking up space as well my siting position is against the wall on the short side, so my speakers are firing into the long side of the room. I'm looking for a sub that can handle whatever my speakers can't handle in a 2.1 setup on my desk, mostly gaming, anime, and youtube videos, with a little bit of music thrown in (classic rock/hard rock/metal/Payday 2 Soundtrack) , currently have Micca MB42X powered by a JVC RX-5000V getting signal from my ODAC/O2 amp. 2nd question. I'm new to the community, so my question is this: I power my miccas with the JVC listed above, I can find specs on it but I don't know what I'm looking at quite yet, should I be upgrading my amp? I'd like something smaller anyway. 3rd question. my listening volumes most of the time are very low, if I were to upgrade my speakers, which ones would work well at low volumes?

Great Video, lots of good info for those who haven't been sub crazy for years already :) My 3 PSA 15's agree with everything you said. If you are a bass nut like myself the Upper end Denon / Marantz receivers can tune 2 subs independently with Audyssey xt32. I think there are a few others now as well. SVS subs have a tuning app that seems pretty cool as well on their upper end units.

My question is, for movies, can you get two different but similar subs, and use them as a functional pair. Specifically, there's a killer deal for the SVS PB-2000 (non-pro) right now for Black Friday. I've already ordered it, and am quite excite!, but...I could only pick up one, and they aren't going to be available again until next BF (they're only producing them now for BF sales, that's it.) I understand the Pro version are a worthy improvement. Can I reasonably get a Pro later as my second, or do they really just HAVE to be an exact matching pair? If so, I'll look to take advantage of the 1-yr swap window, and upgrade the non-pro to a Pro when I'm ready to buy the second. If it's not that big of a deal though, I can save some money and logistics hassle.

With the fact that I have a small room, it is still sooooo damn hard trying to consider what kind of subwoofer I want to use. I just want to have a tight and controlled sounding low end for my music but not overpowering, but I'm so indecisive over what I should choose when a poor man like me doesn't have a budget very far over 300$ and my desk speakers them selves only cost 360$ all together. Whether or not I should go for a sealed or a ported enclosure, what I want in my bass response at least on the current amount of research I've done leads me to believe I should go for a sealed enclosure however I worry that I wont be able to find one that does fairly good below 40hz without spending outrageous amounts of money, most of that may very well be me just being scared of wasting money on something that turns out to be total dog shit. Just like when I listen to music through my akg headphones I want to be able to hear that sweet sweet tight extreme low end but I do not care at all for it to be very loud, just audible enough to be satisfying to listen to. My vanatoo t0's do very well with the upper bass especially for their size they do great in my small room but they do of course leave a lot to desire in the extreme low end without a dedicated subwoofer. Maybe I still just haven't done enough research...even with all of your suggestions in the description i still find myself so indecisive. Maybe I really do have to suck it up and break the bank if I want something that performs well, I'm just still not nearly as well versed with speakers and subwoofers as I am with headphones.
@thetigergamer46444 жыл бұрын
PB-1000? Well, it's 500$ though but it's the best subwoofer you'll get for 500 - 600 $ and below... It's fucking loud, but fast and accurate because of the 10" driver. It also goes down to like 16 - 17 Hz... Well if your room is really small, then you'll have problems with good output below 30 Hz. I feel you doe, I was also scared of being disappointed. Went from an 8" sealed subwoofer, fuuuuck the difference was unbelievable.
