Been trying pad rolling with these. For bassy and reduced treble, the HM5 sheepskin angled work well. For close to stock with minor reduction in treble, Dekoni M50x sheepskin elite work well. For a more neutral sound, the SHR1540 pads work well. The HM5 Hybrids sound the most like stock, maybe a tad less treble....better soundstage and I have kept the Hybrids on for over 3 weeks now.
@DaisoOne
@DaisoOne 6 жыл бұрын
I am looking for a good pair of earpads to replace the stock ones that have just gone to bits. I can't seem to find ones that fits.. would you have any recommendations on where I could get them ? At the moment the only ones I could find are the local Audio Technica service centre or amazone (oem ones that have no description)
@hazi5961
@hazi5961 6 жыл бұрын
Daiso One Are you looking to replace with the exact same stock pads, or do you want a new set of pads? If you don't want stock, then I suggest the flat brainwavz pleather if you want more soundstage and a little warmer treble...or the dekoni ath-m50x sheepskin elite if you want a balanced sound...or you could go the cheap Ebay route and search for ath-msr7 pads, but I will warn you that those pads are all pretty cheap and increase the treble from slightly bright in stock pads to unbearably bright murder ear rape treble.
@hazi5961
@hazi5961 6 жыл бұрын
Daiso One I forgot to mention that I actually like the brainwavz hm5 hybrid the best with pleather a close 2nd. That is just my preference and your mileage may vary.
@js-googl
@js-googl 4 жыл бұрын
im sorry for replying on this old comment. But what about thr sheepskin? It's better than pleather in terms of quality, but I'm not so sure about the impact on the sound. I want to retain the WS1100iS sound.
@lemonscented7703
@lemonscented7703 3 жыл бұрын
@@js-googl Oh boy, gravedigging threads a year late, but I'm also curious - I've seen bad reviews generally about the quality of the Brainwavz Sheepskin pads (namely because they're not fully sheepskin, and the blend with PU leather means they start to flake pretty quickly), but I've seen one glowing review on Reddit of the Dekoni Sheepskins for M50x, citing improved midrange and comfort, and one furious review on HeadFi stating the pads barely fit on the WS1100s and they're so thin that the drivers were almost flat with the poster's ears. Dunno if you've since gone ahead and pulled the trigger on some sheepskin pads, but if you have please don't hesitate to share your thoughts, as even with these cans being out of production I doubt I'll be the last person on the hunt for some new donuts for 'em lol.

Solid Bass is not a description or catchphrase. It's the name of AT's headphone line. There's been one edition before and now it's the second one of which WS1100 is the top of. Also solid doesn't mean a lot of it. For me these'd be a perfect portable can if not for weak isolation.
@vnrays3775
@vnrays3775 7 жыл бұрын
timecage tru, I’ve always want to say this: Solid bass means good quality of bass, not quantity. Thus the 1100’s bass quantity is not at all less then needed.

Slapped Brainwavz Hybrids pads on my ws1100is, EQ'd a bit the mids and the bass and WOW, the soundstage came really close to my AKG K712 PRO's, so now I have hard time to decide which headphone to use for gaming and movies as both headphones sound so good, for music tho, hands down I am using only my ws1100is, they sound so much better now. Who ever got this headphone, buy the Braiwavz Hybrid pads and you won't regred, mark my word!
@lemonscented7703
@lemonscented7703 3 жыл бұрын
Man, I gotta be honest I wasn't a fan. Ordered a pair in for myself because the OG donuts are finally giving out after five years, and I saw a lot of recommendations for the Hybrids both on this video and on HeadFi and Reddit, but after giving 'em a shot I still prefer my now squashed and flaking original pads. They do receive a larger soundstage, but it felt recessed for me, like putting a pair of speakers in a bigger room with worse acoustic properties, or at the end of a hallway. Not only are the mids and low-end de-emphasized (I'm not a big EQ guy, so that's a more permanent problem for me), but I noticed a loss in the tightness and detail retrieval across the whole sound signature, which is what made me love these cans in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I'm only responding to you in case someone else comes to this video looking for opinions about pad rolling - it's super awesome to hear that you absolutely love them, and I hope more people have your experience over mine!
@4epa1012
@4epa1012 3 жыл бұрын
@@lemonscented7703 Hi man, fair. Tbh I found the mids recessed anyways with the stock pads, comparing these headphones to my msr7b's for instance they are nowhere near, but... I have this feeling you are missing a lot not using EQ, after all we are talking about ath-ws1100is headphone, a 190 pounds headphone, nowhere near the high end gear that costs thousands of pounds, so imo they are not ideal, out of the box, at all, thats why EQ is a necessaty. I am using them with Xbass on on my Ifi Zen Can, plus 4db bump at 24, 40 hz and plus 4db bump on the whole midrange. This way this headphone sounds better than the msr7b headphone with balanced cable, even I prefer it, for music, over my AKG K712 pro's.

Bought these 2 years ago because of this review listening on them right now still working awesome Need a new cable because the one they came with is getting sketchy after this long but that's the only thing that has ever had any issues. These are very V-shaped so be aware. The mids are very laid back. I tried these vs the MSR7 and those were perfect in my opinion. The mids were crystal clear compared to these which have quite muddy mids and a bit too much Bass for my taste. But these are much more comfortable and much cheaper so I actually ended up getting these even tho I preferred the MSR7.

If you EQ them and swap the pads with the Brainwavz Hybrid ones, MSR7 sounds narrow comparing to these ones. Honestly, the Brainwavz pads completely change the sound and add so much soundstage that they get really close to my K712 pro's, and I am not exaggerating here at all.

I got these ones... Oh man, the bass response is wow! Even if I EQ the bass it does not distort and it stays so clean, without messing up the mids and highs. OK, it doesn't mach the clarity of the sound of my ATH-MSR7b's with the balanced cable on, but they are really close. And the bass, the MSR7b cannot do that bass lol. Also, comparing these to M50X, I sold my M50X's...

I got this last week and I love them, I'm not in the super basshead territory anymore but this is plenty they are great for gaming and music, it has an amazing tight bass. These aren't for ppl that want flat or like no bass whatsoever, I wouldn't say they are bad for music. It's just not for the kind of people here that always want perfect flat response on everything, is for people that like newer music that emphasize bass responses more.

You have to give your ears time to adjust to this thing if you're coming from the MSR7. I gave them a second try on the same day and went from hating them to loving them. Honest to God my small Fiio amp helps, because my Note 9 doesn't drive them well (have to up my volume like 3 notches above what I'd use on the MSR7). And to the people who claim this is an MSR7 but with more bass? LOL. This is a different headphone, different signature, similar sounding yeah, but bass boosted out the ass. It is actual clean bass. I remember trying Beats like 2yrs ago when they released their new models, these have FAR more bass, and cleaner. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much detail they also manage to deliver WHILE exploding your ear with bass. To a basshead, this might not be impressive, to me it certainly is. Thumbs up.

I'm on a Schitt Fulla 2, with the Ricardos, and angled ear pads and the bass that comes from these is super clean and literally rattles my skull. I'm talking full volume, no distortion. Z, I know you were down-ish on the "bass" but perhaps you got a lemon. The bass on these are top tier IMHO. My one complaint is that they are a little narrow in the soundscape, however. I listen to Metal, Electronic, & Hip Hop primarily, plus I game a lot, and these are literally the perfect headphone for me.

I noticed the comfort on my pads have gotten worse over time. Owned these for about 2-3 years now? Lately I have to adjust them to keep from my right ear feeling sore. They were comfortable at first, but definitely not anymore. What's the most comfortable pads I can get that fits these?

Question? I bought the Audio Technica M50x's about a year ago and i wasnt too impressed with the bass, i WAS looking at these exact ones but now im not after seeing youre review. Im looking for a good set that are Crunchier & Punchier but still retain clearness. My staple is rock, metal & punk genres but i still like my old school rap and a bit of electric genres here and there. What would be some decent recommendations under $600?

I use a really weird pair of headphones for gaming. I use the Sony HW700 which are 9.1 surround sound headphones. They are really weird as they are feed the HDMI output from your devices. I saw them going for around $300 on eBay and Amazon as they need a 5ghz transmition box.

So what I understand is there's not bloated bass, but more base than the m50x. I have Takstar pro82 and Senheiser 598cs. How does the bass compare to these? (I find the Takstar's lacking but I don't like how bloated the bass boost is)

I found your review great! I own M50's and i use them with Fiio e10k on a mac with logic. I'm a drummer and i use them with electronic drums. I'm thinking of upgrading to Ricardos (lol). Is it worth it? What do you think? Maybe i should upgrade my dac too? Do you have any AMP-DAC (affordable) to suggest along with these headphones, or i should keep the fiio e10k? I'm bit confused.

For movies and games, x2hr, the soundstage of the Fidelios is huge, perfect for movies and games. However, if you want a massive bass, that literally shakes your ears in the headphones pads, the ws1100is is the way to go.

hard to drive at 38 ohms?
@jayleno2192
@jayleno2192 7 жыл бұрын
Impedance isn't the only thing that matters. The mechanical suspension and the strength of the magnet also have a huge effect on how difficult something is to drive. If you want to know more, read about the Thiele/Small parameters.
