in 1993 Nissan switched the exhaust valve material to combat the "soft valves" burning out. The fuel injectors were also swapped out for newer side feeds that offered greater longevity(and nicer plugs). If you want a Z32, you want a 93-95.
@TheAquaCat
@TheAquaCat 2 жыл бұрын
The injectors pre 93’ were made for gas without ethanol in it, there wear out quicker because of this issue is your run the old style. definitely recommended to upgrade your entire fuel system except the rail. if you get an aftermarket fuel pump you can even bypass the dampener!!

@@joseespinosa7523 first year of OBD BS for american cars, harder to tune without overhaul/standalone, various sensors are different such as tps, making it more difficult to source second hand parts. nothing wrong with a 96 if youre keeping it stock, or moderately building it. 95 is the gem year bc you get goodies like the 48p or 10y heads which flow marginally better than the older castings.

From my experience with my car, if you plan to actually build your z32, starting with an NA model is just as viable as the TT model. The NA model has the better steering rack (due to no rear steer option on the NA), better rear differential and you don’t have to delete the HICAS system. The NA model also has higher compression which can be better for building to a certain power level, but you have to use e85. The NA engine has some small differences compared to the TT, but as others have said, can be converted for pretty cheap. The Stock NA block and heads with factory turbos from a TT and a couple other small changes can make 400whp all day and be happy. As you start going past the 500whp mark, the OEM pistons become a bit questionable. Either option is great and can be built on, a lot of people just assume you have to start with a TT model but that is definitely not the case. Also, the transmissions are pretty much the same between the two with the exception of the placement of the Speedo gear. And the stock transmissions on these cars are stout as fuck, so you don’t really have to worry about swapping it for more power.

Great video! Everything he says is good advice. Unfortunately if you buy a z32 in any condition at this point all of the things he recommends needs to be done. Wiring harnesses actually gets so brittle every connector will disintegrate when touched. Either know a decent mechanic that has worked on these cars or you will learn to work a 10 mm socket. Amazing driving cars, but if possible change all the bushings to energy bushings they have a kit for the z32. I bought my z32 a decade ago when they were going for a lot less. Body is the most important. I built the motor changed everything along with a 98 spec transmission and including the car I paid about 25 grand, it has 600 wheel hp with a haltech platinum pro with speed density. Upgraded to 6 pot 17z Brembo and SRT 8 rear with 370 z rotors. These cars have lots parts OEM and remanufactured. Out of all JDM cars this car is supported by many companies and used parts are plenty. Buy now before they go up even more.

Had a 300ZX TT. Key points to watch out for IMO: 1.Weak front wishbones. They are not very strong a good pot hole can bend/snap them. Aftermarkets were available. 2.PTU (Power Transistor Unit), especially the series 1 PTU, would over heat and your car would not start until cooled. They are located on the front of the timing cover. Facing the fans. However, the engine bay is very hot and despite the fans, PTU's would fail. This left many stumped wondering why their car would not start until it cooled. Tip: Change to series 2 PTU and relocate. 3. Bushings can weaken. If able to, switch to a poly-bush set up. 4. Again on engine, two small rubber fuel pipes would perish from the heat. This caused a rich smell of fuel. 5. HICAS can crab. Many ended up disconnecting. On older versions make sure all hydraulic lines are serviced and no leaks. They later switched to an electronic HICAS. 5. Rear spoiler and rear lights can crack/discolour. This was usually age related and via weathering. 6. It is imperative to change the oil every 2500 miles. This will save your turbos and changing them out is a nightmare as it is a tight engine to work on. Turbos are located mid to low down either side of the V6. 7. On auto gearboxes, maybe add a better aftermarket oil cooler for the transmission fluid. Again, change this out every 15 to 20K. 8. 4 wheel alignment/tracking is essential for spot on driving and to guard against tyre wear. 9. Engine is actually a strong unit with titanium piston rods. However, if boosting over 600BHP, consider internal upgrades. 10. Fit a good cat-back exhaust system. Standard system isn't that strong and the sound is underwhelming. Other than that they are a blast to drive. Fuel economy is poor. But there are many aftermarket upgrades. JWT (Jim Wolf Technologies) do superb turbo performance packages/chips. You can get some real high power that is reliable if you source the right parts and the person fitting/tuning them knows their stuff.

na has a higher air compression ratio so na can make more power with aftermarket tt,even with stock tt will be 400 stock,air compression ratio on the na is 11:1 which means you can get more air into the turbos,+on e85 zoooooooom
@EthanD19
@EthanD19 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it’s not that simple like at all. These cars love e85 but it comes with a plethora of issues on this car. Not only that there are a lot of differences between the turbo and na engines sure u can replace pistons etc but you will also have to take note the oil squirters are different, the oil pressure check valves are in different spots near the oil filter, the oil filter trees are different - meaning you’ll need to modify or get a tt one for an oil cooler which is needed. Just so much stuff to get it to a TT. But you can do it on the cheap But imo do it right the first time or don’t do it at all. Plus the compression doesn’t give it that much more power. E85 is a joke stuff cleaning it and running it all the time to stop it from glugging up, changing the oil sooner, for what a bit of extra power and 30% more fuel usage… at that point just spend the money on bringing down the back two cylinders thermals…

@@EthanD19 “e85 is a joke” - one of the dumbest things I’ve read this year 🤣
@EthanD19
@EthanD19 Жыл бұрын
@@coltoncaskey5781 if you think about it. ~30% more fuel usage for a cooler burn and a percentage more power. Not to mention you have to run it all the time to stop it from glugging up, you have to change the oil all the time, flushing the system, fuel tank needs cleaning (because of its surface area it’s inevitable), even finding a fuel station with proper E85 at least here in AUS is hard to get and it’s not even regulated to be 85% (for example there is only I think 2 or 3 stations in Brisbane and they aren’t even in the centre they are on the outskirts - that 30% more really cuts it close especially if your a street driver). Honestly it becomes more tedious then having it. Sure running it is awesome and this car likes it. But it comes with some downsides that usually a proper tune, some porting / heat management and extra sensors can suffice.
@woodnutz78
@woodnutz78 5 ай бұрын
@@EthanD19 I only see the 30% more fuel as being the only accurate (albeit overly cautious) statement here. A “percentage” more power?? Sure, like about 25%-30% more. Nothing to sneeze at. E85 is probably the easiest, most reliable way to significantly increase power. No matter what you do, you need a good tune, whether 91 or E85.

I was 5 when the 300ZXTT went on sale. In instantly wanted one. Turbo power sounded like magic back the. Twin Turbo sounded even more magical. Depending on the smog laws of where you live, the 1995 and earlier may be an advantage. Many areas just plug into the OBDII port, the check readiness and MIL. Earlier cars didn't have that, and some areas did not want to have pipe sniffers. I live in Florida where nothing gets smog tested. I told people that if they always wanted a 300ZXTT, the 1998 Z32 Fairlady TT and later is crossing the 25 year rule. With the 300/300 special, #300 was never even sold. It went directly to the Yokohama Nissan museum. I never imagined a need for it, I figured they would just have another Fairlady Z32 TT. The serial number must have been that special. I wonder if they also have the first R35 LHD GTR in that museum. Some colors were more collectible than others. However, I tend to build a strong association with the first car I see and love. For the 300ZXTT, it was the pearl white. I also had that association for the MKIV Supra TT. When I saw a picture of the R34 GT-R, it was blue, so that's the color I wanted. I did not know the exact name, so I called it Calsonic blue. I remember seeing rally cars on Speedvision, years before any of them arrived in the USA. It made me think of the blue WRX and Marlboro red Evo.

@@hakosan86 You did the right thing by not mentioning the "20 hp loss." It's a myth, and I challenge ANYONE to provide any official Nissan publication that corroborates it. (I'll save you the trouble: it doesn't exist) I was there when it started. A member of the ZCCA (which I too am a member of) wrote up a "differences" piece, much like this video. As part of his research, he began to compare the parts microfiche (yeah, it was THAT long ago), and came to the conclusion that because the auto and manual TT shared camshafts, then they therefore produced the same engine output. That's it. Never mind that the turbos were different between those models. Never mind that Nissan advertised their ECU reprogramming to compensate the loss of NVCS in 1996 to produce the same peak horsepower. Never mind that NVCS was actually designed to run at the low-mid power band. Never mind that Nissan advertised the full 300hp on the manual, and 280 on the auto. When I contacted him about it, he admitted he "may" have been wrong, but the damage was done by then, and the rumor has persisted. So yeah, you did the right thing by sticking to the facts. well, NA have allot more goodies over the TT than you think: The NA diff is actually more desireable because it has faster acceleration but sacrifices top speed. 4 Wheel steering is not that great, it breaks all the time and most guys delete it switching out to NA power steering pump which requires less engine power to operate. Higher compression motor of the NA actually produces 35% more HP with the equivalent turbo set-up but this does require a healthy engine which are hard to come by.

I had a 90 us model NA z32 with a digital climate control. There’s a bit of misinformation on this video. 96 TT’s are probably the least sought out TT.

Im pretty sure i said you could get the manual climate control in the TT and if you like OBDll that 96 would be a good year to get. But if i didnt thats what i meant to say

Look above the battery. The cowl piece costs $$$ and will break if you don't remove it prior to changing the battery. DON'T let your local auto parts store change your battery or your free install will cost you hundreds. You're welcome.

amazing high tech way ahead of their time Vehicle more tech that any other Vehicle I have owned Hard to work on I would agree but If you love them you will learn alot owning one coz everything gos south given enough time! what I would strongly suggest if you own one take it to a Z32 Specialist to restore agree on a price and be prepaired to have everything done I mean everything needs replacing past 200,000KM on the Clock to own one of these cars means only a Shop that specialises in them can do the work efficently and correctly at a Reasonable hourly Rate! any other shop will charge you heaps in Labour costs coz they make hard work of them! I learned the Hard way but I spent 40K on my 91 TT Slick Top every thing is new now took 9 years to complete but worth every penny.

as someone who owns a z32.. Hicas is he first thing you delete. It's just far too old now to be reliable, Yes working in the engine bay is about meh.. But aslong as you get a CLEAN and i mean low k's CLEAN z you shouldn't have to many problems for a 30+ year old car

What's the point of having all wheel steering if ur running stance? This is like buying a BMW "M" car and pulling everything that makes it an "M" and pulling the motor for an LS....like just start with the base and worry about the cosmetic if it's that much different. All I'm sayin is maybe learn from the previous generations mistakes and keep the special car alone, there's not that many of them and these are literally the LAST of the types of vehicles the common person can work on. U may think there is a TON of choices out there but trust me that in 5 short years a chassis can essentially be wiped off the list
