3:45 I received my Gan 356 i3 today and I bought it with the charging pod. I think you might like the Gan charging pod more than the desk charger, since it feels solid, fits the cube well, offers on-the-go charging AND features a built-in phone stand as a bonus. Though the phone stand feature feels a bit flimsy.

Nice video. I bought a GAN iCarry after watching your review video about it. And I'm glad that I bought it. It's great for learning speedcubing. I really like the gyroscope in I3. I think you should give extra point for that, so that both GAN cubes are at equal points 😊
@gcolombelli2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't miss the gyroscope too much (if at all), unless it got a lot better on the i3 or the 12 ui. I got the i2 before the carry was released, I was in doubt between the i2 and the i2 play (without the gyroscope) and I was quite underwhelmed by the gyroscope. It drifts and requires you to fix the orientation manually after a few solves and it's also quite laggy and doesn't deal well with wide moves or M, S and E moves. I can pretty much count on having to fix reconstructions most of the time if I've done any slice or wide moves. My i2 also got a bit worse over time with battery aging, I can't really trust the charge indicator as it sometimes either reports under or over the actual charge and bluetooth connection also become unreliable when the battery is acting up. I still like it as it's way more broken in and smooth, but I decided to get an i carry just to have something more reliable with me. If I take out the i2 with me it's a hit or miss if I will be able to use it on the go, without the dock and charger, but the i carry just works every time. Another minor difference between the i2 and i carry, besides gyroscope and battery, is that the sensor it uses is different, id doesn't detect the face position with the same granularity as the i2, it's always either in one position or another, no in-between. But this is more of a "show off" feature than something actually useful, nice to demo to a friend who never seen a smart cube, but not something that will impact performance during practice. Honestly, if the i carry was available when I bought the i2 and I knew it's shortcomings, I wouldn't have bothered with the i2 at all.

A little update: the gyroscope on the 12ui is indeed a lot better than the one on the i2, less lag, more precision, better sampling rate. However, it still suffers from drift and you still have to fix the orientation on-screen regularly or the app will not correctly register rotations. Also, the price is insane, maybe the i3 can be a cheaper alternative, but I still think the gyroscope isn't such a huge deal that warrants spending more money just for it.

I think a key point you forgot to mention is how long each full charge lasts. If I have to remember to charge my cube, I'd like it to work for longer than an hour :') Also no mention of gyroscope on those that had it, which can be a deciding factor for some. And lastly, even though the app is important esp if you pay a lot, the fact that Cubeast exists makes it less important imo That said, great video, good to see everything side by side!
@Z3Cubing2 жыл бұрын
Great points! Unfortunately I don't think there's a way for me to realistically compare battery life, since my smart cubes range from brand new to 3 years old. Since I don't believe the marketing either, I decided just not to mention it. As for gyroscopes, I believe the GoCube, Gan 356i/i2/i3, and WeiLong AI are the only ones that have one. It's definitely a cool feature for games/tutorials, but I've found that it's essentially irrelevant when it comes to speedcubing. I also originally had a section about Cubeast in this video when I couldn't get MoYu's app to work! I eventually figured it out and removed it to save time. I think it's a very cool service, but I'd much rather just have a great first-party app that doesn't involve a monthly subscription to do X number of solves per day.

If you let the Go Cube battery discharge below a certain level, it is permanently toast, a definite negative point. The Gan i3 charger has flashing lights to indicate the level of charge by getting faster and final turning red when fully charged - so should not have been downgraded for that. Also the gyroscope in the Gan i3 is a major feature. However you seem to agree with my conclusion that the Cube Station app does not show the turns you made in a solve which seems a big fail to me. If I'm wrong, someone please tell me!

I think that the way you scored the chargers was very unfair and biased. One-piece chargers are much more vulnerable because if part of it breaks, you have to replace the whole thing. With a two piece charger, if your cable breaks, you can simply switch the cable and carry on using the same charger. In terms of practicality and longevity, two-piece chargers are superior.

@gcolombelli2 жыл бұрын
You can lube it just fine, just don't overdo it and avoid applying lube on the yellow side, where the recharging contacts are. Silicone based lubes are usually very safe to use, water and plant based lubes like dnm-37, stardust and mystic may require some extra care, but can still be used.
@brooklynlong45722 жыл бұрын
Is this the same for the GoCube? I just bought one for my son and was wondering about lubing it. He uses Martian lubricant, but I’m not sure if it’s silicone based or not.
@gcolombelli2 жыл бұрын
@@brooklynlong4572 Martian is silicone based, I never seen a GoCube by myself, but I guess it has even less issues with lubes than the GAN ones, as the charging port is located on the yellow center piece. I would recommend against using very runny lubes like Adheron Lite, Stardust, DNM-37, Mystic (especially on hot climates) or anything like that, unless you apply it very carefully if you're not using to lube your cubes. If you've done it a bunch of times with regular cubes, you probably already know the drill. It doesn't mean you can't use it, I've been using some of these for a long time with no issues, it just requires a little bit of care and patience when using such lubes.
