The z6iii will not just be a photo first camera like the z6ii. It will be Nikons first true hybrid camera that will have professional video features for a great price and not cost $3500+ I think the z6iii can be the most sold nikon mirrorless camera ever if the marketing is done correctly. And this price it can be the camera to really bring Nikon back to wear it was.

I’m currently using the Z6 and am eagerly waiting for the Z6 III. The Z6 II was not enough of an improvement over the Z6 to justify upgrading so I kept my trusty Z6. The improved AF and video features that I’m hoping are going to be in the Z6 III are what I believe to be tangible improvements over my current camera. I do a mix of just about everything and the Z6 has been sufficient for almost all of it but I’m not happy with the AF hit rate in events photography and the AF in video can be better. As for the sensor and being able to get more than 11 fps, I would prefer that they keep it 24Mp as I do a lot of low light photography and some low light videography. The lower Mp sensor should give better images and video under those circumstances. Do I need more than 11fps? I rarely do, so, to me, it’s not a big deal. Yes, I’m already planning on purchasing the next version of the Z6 regardless of the rumored specs.

Super good video, well done. ...Agree with you when thinking of most people. But for me specifically, I'll order NPS immediately, we can count on AF being significantly better, video is huge for me and pays the bills in this house. In the end I like your video style, well done. But I'll own the Z6 III a week after release, and then decide which camera will be carried in my bag along with the Z9....the Z6 III or the Z8

I’m looking forward to the release of the Nikon Z6iii as an upgrade to my D7500/Z50, 12 lens, kit along with the purchase of the 24-120 f4, 14-30 f4 & 105 macro. To me as a photography enthusiast who shoots all sorts of genre, the Z6iii is my “goldilocks” camera. It offers superb firmware with the Expeed 7. Hopefully the sensor will have a readout speed twice as fast or even faster than is in the Z6/6ii. While 33mp would be great, but Nikon’s Z6 line of cameras is a camera line specifically for low light, high ISO, wide dynamic range. I like to crop, but as a non-professional, I won’t be printing bus stop size posters, fashion magazine covers… The Z6iii will be my primary camera, and for professionals their secondary camera.

I have a 14-30 F4 in mint condition for sale if you're interested. Can't find the box, but it's super clean. I bought it for real estate photography, but do lots more video than still work.

Love my D850, but I need human/animal eye detection, and frankly, I don't like the noise I get over about ISO 6400. Looking forward to Z6III

The z6iii will be at least as fast as Zf or even faster. Body will be bigger than Z6ii, smaller than Z8. Autofocus of Z6iii will be much improved over z6ii. Nikon reps have told me so, that the autofocus and video tracking is much improved on Zf over Z6ii, so will be in the Z6iii.

Another thought on on all these possible configurations, and their comparative appeal - IF the Z6iii were to come in with that 33-ish mp sensor, and of course have the amazing focus performance we all expect, it might then serve as my 'One and Done' model option. With that amount of megapixels, i could, when birding and in need of more zoom, put it in crop mode and still have a decent amount of pixels on the image to work with. The other aspects of a 24 or 33 mp sensor are all fine for my other general uses. I had really hoped we'd get the announcement as part of the CP+ photo show going on now. Bummer! ;-( PS, liked your image mock up of how Nikon could rival a competitor to the Fuji x100VI. I went out and bought the DX 24mm f1.7, even with its 'meh' performance, just to have something i can handle comparable to that Fuji.

Craig, Exactly! A bunch of us shoot with longer lenses and a 15MP crop would be welcomed. I didn’t really expect an official announcement at CP+… But gosh I hope it’s soon. Nikon waited until May 10th for the Z8 announcement.. Hope we are not kept waiting that long this time around. Thanks for your comments!

People want the Z6iii to have 33mp so that don't have to spend extra $1000 to get a Z8. Not going to happen, as Nikon does not want it impacting sales on Z8 and Z7ii. Z6iii will have only 24.5 Mp with a brand sensor BSI, which is more than enough for most photographers and video, unless you are a landscaper or wildlife shooter who crops and a larger body than current Z6ii. The z6iii will come in between $2399 to $2599 body only and will sell like hotcakes like the Zf did on backorders on launch. Discounts will be offered on combo with lens and more sales in 3 to 6 months. Rumors to be announced by April with preorders.

Bigger question: does it really exist? Will Nikon ever release it? All of the rumors have been wrong.

I think they must. The rumors are not likely all wrong. But timing is the issue. I’m guessing the RED acquisition caused a bit of a delay in timing.

Z7II will still be a better landscape travel option, ie OM1 has backside illuminated stacked, but for landscape z7ii is still better (even as z7ii is very slow), due to resolution and dynamic range and 64 iso.

The 24 sensor is fine if it has stacked sensor and electronic shutter. Also keeping the size as similar as possible to the 6ii. If it’s similar to that , I’ll be purchasing. If not, I will pass. Replacing a 6ii and 7. Backup for my z9.

I'm looking at a Z6iii as a possible second body. I mostly shoot wildlife so low light performance is a must. Of course I would hope for focus ability to approach that of the Z9. At the moment I'm just waiting to see what appears as a possible second body.

I have pro-ordered the Z6 III in may 2023! After 30 Years i sold my Canon equipment.It can only get better!

I’m very interested in the Z6III, especially since my Z6II ended up in a river last year and now is somewhat glitchy (only turns on and off by putting in or taking out the battery) I haven’t bought another Z6II, with the III on the horizon. The key factor for me will be price point, it can’t be much more than the Zf, Nikon has a chance to sell a literal crap ton of III’s if they get this right. 😎📸

I’m actually most interested in a Z50 update. That’s my birding and light travel camera. If that doesn’t come through for all of us, i’m sort of in a quandary, as the Z6iii seems like more camera - and probably price - than i need. So even though i don’t like the ergonomics of the ZF, i might lean that way to keep costs down.

Clearly Nikon understands the D500 marketplace exists and they should be filling it. Z500 or z50ii I hope will be announced sometime in 2024. I think a possible delay is either market planning, or the need for a new fast 24mpix DX sensor.. to really make it sing. Let’s face it, since the Z9 Nikon hasn’t built any significant new chip level tech. Z8 is a small Z9. Zf is an expeed7 with the old Z6 sensor in a retro body. I think Nikon will get there, but new sensors take time to design and man at scale.

@@kellysparksphotography Kelly, Thanks for your additional thoughts. I have been assuming that because companies like Fuji and Sony have been getting and placing 26 mp sensors in their apsc models, that a stock of such sensors must be available for other companies to buy as well. So, i have been hoping Nikon might use that 26 mp sensor. To me, that is the sweet spot for apsc. But you seem to have good insights on the tech and chip world…Is that maybe not the case? Craig, it’s certainly possible that Nikon could just use a Sony sensor. If that’s their direction, then the delays are more likely Marketing related. My view stems from a belief that Nikon made sensors might be more profitable in the long run than buying from Sony, but I could be wrong. 😊 Nikon clearly rolling out cameras, top down so far.. Thanks for your thoughts!
