I have no idea if Lorde is "rude" in person as it has been stated in the video above, but I do know that she was just 17. She's very young and at that age, every teenager had a sense of black and white with how the world works, and that they know everything until they get a decade or two under their belts. I don't believe she is a mean spirited person, because I've always seen her as quirky and a little awkward but in an interesting way that is refreshingly not tainted by Hollywood glam yet. Now don't get me wrong, I love Glam....I'm a glamazon woman myself, and I am a BEYONCE fan and all her fabulousness, but it's nice to see a 17 year old singer, stay trying to be 17 looking and not all sexed up before her 21st birthday to try and push her image in a "Hey, look at me! I'm all grown up and a woman now!" desperate attempts for more popularity. Hence the Disney, Nickelodeon curse put upon the females that come out of their programs. Her personal feeling about the Selena song is hers, but she'll soon learn that being in the public eye in such a way, may require you to have some filter or edit yourself from time to time, because the media and fans can turn on you quickly. I don't fully disagree with her, but I just think that as females, we should understand that when you are walking around with a "teen" after a number, you are not ready for the maturity involved with invoking such attention to yourself. You should take your time getting there and stand your ground with production teams and writers. This is where you'll decide who gets to use your power....the production companies or you. They will use your female power of body and soul and turn a profit, leaving you on the frontline to deal with the ugly backlash. That's messed up. Plus, these people know how a teen mine works. They know how eager they are for these females to prove that they are grown up, that they'll agree to go with it against their better judgment. For me, that's where good parenting comes in. But there seems to be a lack of it for these female artists. I think it's fine to seem flirty, but there has to be a line drawn until they are mature enough to go for the temptress, sex kitten or siren bit. A lot of artists that do, have been around the block and has had some years to mature into that for themselves, and on their own terms. I feel that maybe the whole "too young to be singing that" thing, may have been where Lorde was coming from. You know how the media loves to paraphrase people and get something started.

Regarding Lorde... I do see what they are saying about her throwing shade so early in her career, but when you think about it all artists with longevity speak their minds like that. Fiona Apple, Madonna, etc. Selener is a flash in the pan but Lorde will definitely be around for a long time. Plus all her comments are consistent with the messages in her songs... Non-conformist, no glitz no glamour, going against the grain. Makes sense that she'd take issue with people like Taylor and Selener.
